Odd my post didn't send .....

To me I personally think that with this game the hetro female and gay characters recieved the better romance options..
Zevran and Alistair are both vastly differing personality types but it shocks me that Alistair is so popular.
To be honest I was beginning to think that gals these days no longer appreciated the nice guy option and instead preffered the naughtier option (Zev)

On the whole I am glad that females didn't get a another baldur's gate 2 slap in the face by being stuck with a mediocre jerk of a character to romance, though apparently the fan mods released more options.

I am quite dissapointed with the lesbian and hetro male romance options though >_>
Anora is a traitorous harpy, Morrigan is just a slight tilt on the Tsundere character type and Leliana just doesn't seem to be genuine in the way she acts.

I have to say, I "hardened" Alistair (plenty of times but that's not to the point), and his reactions therefore were decisive and assertive, and I was more than happy with it. He wasn't needing me to lead on, more like he was letting me.

Anyone who thinks Alistair is a better boyfriend than a real life boyfriend needs to take a long break from gaming.

Agree about BG2.. that was just horrible. Given the fact that I never played a male character in there and I hated Anomen's guts, my game was always romance-free.

I like Leliana, or at least I did until I started a romance with her..

It doesn't really come as a shocker to me that Alistair is the most popular choice of romance... I think many girls still like nice guys, I doubt that would ever change :)) I have no solid opinion on Zevran romance. I like him alot as a character, but I have no real interest in romancing him.

I guess the cliche about girls/womens are true ...

Women like the "dangerous" type, and crave those, but don't marry them ...

- They end up marrying the "safe" guys ? hah

Sorry, I know it's corny, but I just couldn't resist ... :)

I'm not sure that anyone thinks that :)) I like my boyfriend more than Alistair and my boyfriend likes me better than Morrigan (or so I hope:)) ^^ But we are talking about DA:O game here, last time I checked this wasn't a discussion board for real life stories :))

Morrigan seems to jsut be the stereotype of a tsundere, just without the noble upbringing, Leliana on the otherhand seems to be just bland.

Morrigan is Tsundere with a dash of Holywood Atheist thrown in (isn't that ironic?)
Leilana is ...well, she's a lot like a female Alistair... except she whines a lot less, did not live such a sheltered life and sometimes (likes to pretend) she hears voices from invisible fade daddies

still haven't hardened Alistair in my playthrough, i can't wait to see how he will change. Leliana was a welcome change (but still fixated with her invisible fade daddy)

on a sidenote, Anora rocks... she has what it takes to be a Queen and those that call her cruel and evil, either pushed all her wrong buttons, or skipped through half the cutscenes with her

on another sidenote, asked the gf about Alistair after she had a few hours of play with her mage. her response:

"he's funny, sarcastic, romantic, shuts up when i tell him to, reasonably cute, does whatever i want, is probably good in bed... the only problem i see, is that he has no equipment slot for the collar"

Ah no, it depends...like everything.

Most young females like the dangerous type, yes, true, but ye older a female is, the more they like the shy guy. It's a matter of experience of life and parental home.

And sure it's a matter of instincts. Research scientists found out, that females like hard guys in their fertile times of month and the rest of it they like the loyal guy.

When I was young, I was married with a very adventuresome man but this was a problem after I got my children. Now I have a very calm boyfriend, I think in my youth I would have found him boring, but now he is perfect.
Alistair is very similar to him.

So you see: It depends :)

You know, you just answered my questions though heh ...

- You (initially) liked the "dangerous" / "adventurous" type (even though you married him it didn't last)
- You (ended up) marrying the "safe" guy ...

Yeah I know it was "cliche", but just thought it was funny, pertaining to the "Alistair" choice in the game LOL

The same could go for men - they crave a hot girl that will party with them all night, but they want to start a family with someone who, hopefully, won't party all night long when there is a home to take care of  :)) Cliches are fun :))

I don't, but I read one recently that I liked. What's wrong with that? It improves literacy :P

I totally agree with you ... on both accounts;

That's a notion of hypocrisy that I really detest about society today, - that and the attitude towards ecology ...

A guy who has "had" alot of women is by definition with his peers a "stud", but a women that can say the same thing is a "****" ??

And people always praise ecological produce, but in the end most fail to support these, because they don't actually buy it (because the price is higher than non-ecological produce) ...

Weeell that's a whole other story... people who work x hours a day to make enough money so their family can live a middle class life cannot imo be blamed for choosing non-ecological food.. it is sad to say that with insufficient support from the state, mass ecological produce became a "rich food".

But that doesn't really relate to this topic in any way :)) Back to topic, where were we? .... Oh noes I can't remember :D

Not exactly. There is a difference: You took the cliche about ALL women.
I differentiate between young girls and older/wiser women.

I married the dangerous type when I was 19 and I got my safe guy with 42.  I never want to have an adventurer now in my midage, it's to strenous, really.

Scientific research shows there is direct relation between how much fanfiction you read/write and how big of a pathetic loser you are.

Good for you. Also, this is just in, calling people pathetic losers on the internets never leads to anything of worth.

I don't think maturity, age or stage of life matters. When it comes down to it, people have different tastes and the two character are completely different. If it were to come down to a solid factor, I'd blame familiarity. You have Al from the start, while Zevran doesn't step in until later. Also, Al has generally more opportunities to delve into his back story and personality.

Alistair is young.. he is not perfect... but he is very close to it. and when he grows up a bit hold on to your heart. I can imagine him a little older and a lot less whinny being the perfect guy .. yeah

I already made a long post on the "Alistair is overrated thread, so I'll just summarize my feelings.

Alistair is not perfect; he's very human. He's sweet, funny, insecure, immature, and yes, lovable.

It's Alistair's accent.
If he sounded like the fools from Jersey shore, I don't think he would be as cute.

I'm usually not one to obsess over fictional characters, and it especially bothers me how people are in love with Edward Cullen...

But Alistair has captured my heart! Alistair > my boyfriend of three years.

I know how those Twilighters feel. :P

Alistair can be whiny, but I didn't mind it. It shows he has a big heart... <3

He's at his best when he's hardened (no pun intended).
