after briefly reading the first and last pages of this topic... I'm suddenly glad my girlfriend is sane(ish).

for that reason, i'm not going to object to her playing the game when she gets it... but i've been alerted that I should keep my eye on that. *glares at alistair*

I hated Alistair.  I'm sure it's because my main was a warrior and Alistair was always on the bench. 

His "****-ness" attitude throughout the game fueled my hate even more.  I was very happy to lock him up and pick up a real tank in (spoiler).

Just my 2 cents.

After getting to know Alistair a little, it became quite clear that he is a twit and is to be avoided.

I got to know Alistair a bit, and I have to say that I rather liked him. I liked his way of deflecting questions, and how you slowly helped him gain confidence and security. That's just me though. Anyway, once I got Shale, Alistair went to the sidelines - though I made sure to keep talking to him in camp.

Although I wouldn't say he is perfect... he is quite handsome and adorable in that bumbling, doesn't quite know what to say way. And I do have to admit that I .... I mean my character.. was quite heartbroken when Alistair broke up with her.

I really liked Alistair. I also adored Leliana. I thought Morrigan was a manipulative shrew. Zevran always gave me a laugh but I never pursued his relationship.

As a buddy, I think Alistar is a great character. Hes a real comedian and has a good understanding of what's the "right thing" in most cases. Alright, hes a whiny guy and I can't respect him as a man for that, but if you do harden him he learns a lesson for his life and does actually take on some responsibility later in the game. Makes you proud.



People who dislike him often don't get to harden him since they don't spend the effort to raise his approval. That results in him really tossing a fit at the landsmeet.... which I s'pose makes people dislike him even more in those cases.

What's funny is that in the official strategy guide, the author even talks about Alistair being cute and funny....lol. This isn't the first "how awesome is Alistair" thread however, and it'll probably not be the last. What I'm wondering is if he's not in the expansion, what companion can possibly fill the Alistair void?

You want honesty? Here is honesty and from a woman.  I HATE douchebags with a firey passion, anyone who acts like that...needs to die. I could care less about them, I think Alistair is a great guy and I would date him but I already have a guy who is sweet, kind, and gentle.

I was a bit surprised to find that Al has a big fangirl club, at first. But in hindsight I probably shouldn't be. He completely reminds me of my dorm mates in my college years; and that's probably exactly why the teenage female playership identifies him as bf material. I, being a guy and knowing exactly how college guys talk/think of girls when amongst themselves, have absolutely no pink-filtered delusions about college guys.



Maybe girls think whiny guys are more loyal and sensitive?? As a guy I'd more prefer to be around someone who's friendly, natural, and centered with his own life. As a friend, ofc.



For example, this guy who I work with...



...looks quite a lot like Alistair actually, but with more character and less babycheeks, LOL... but he definitely doesn't whine and isn't evasive. Just a cool laid-back Aussie. I gotta admit, Australians have a cool manly accent (for male speakers).



As for Morrigan... UGH. I know someone just like her IRL (looks, mindset, and demeanor)... one is enough, thank you.

Seriously though, I dont know why people make such a big deal about Allistar freaking out at the Landsmeet? He stands up for what he beleives and doesnt back down. I can respect that!

And unlike so many internet tough guys, doesnt start attack people for their decision, says he disagrees and leaves on his own!

FTR: I have never once hardened Allistar in my play throughs, he is who he is and you need to accept him for who he is IMO!

It kinda depends on what type of character you make. Morrigan does the most moaning in my playthroughs. Alistaire is reliable enough (even if sometimes somewhat insecure). But he steps up the plate if need be and true enough about the ogre thing. That simply rocks ! Reminds me, I still need to make my own templar tank with Alistaire in mind as the big example. Let the good times roll !

That's imo what Alistar does when you harden him. Life teaches you lessons and you learn from it.

Bah, last game I put my sword through Zavran for being male and calling me handsome. This play through he does it again He didnt learn, why should Allistar? :PPP 

Hardening Allistar just sounds like more new wave, alternative nonsence Im just not into!
