you know what i think? i think this bioware social network could be quite successful as a dating site.

Don't need a site to officially be a dating site, it's inevitable social sites will have at least one couple on them - I met my current boyfriend on a message board about Sonic the Hedgehog when looking for people to play online with on XBox Live. =P

WTF I love it!

Thats cool any you babes live in Tempe, Arizona by chance? lol .... oh and are 18+

I can't help but be slightly in love with a video game character. I have a boyfriend, but I can't shake off the fact that Bioware has, truely, made the perfect guy. Nervous, sweet, adorable, and funny!

And please.. By all means, post your Alistair pictures!

Of all the characters in my party, I liked Allistair the least. In the end I exiled him and took Loghain into party. So well... he sucks. My favorites were Leliana and Shale... both looked and behaved better.

It depends on your defination of perfect

In my opinion he lacks a backbone, has to have his hand held by the warden and the *spoilers* whole lets irrationally execute right on the spot thing *endspoilers* seriously reveils how "imperfect" a man, leader, etc. he is. I do like his cornyness though.

Maybe perfection to some of fangirls (and boys) here is something they can sink their claws into and completly manipulate. :P

That being said he's one of my favourite characters, probably because of his imperfections, I personally don't like characters unless they have flaws as I can't really believe them otherwise. :) I'm a male but when I play games I appreciate the entire form of the characters. Alistair is a great character as he has a lot of depth and inner conflict but this IMO is because he is not the perfect person.

"Nice" guys finish last, sure.  Frankly, "nice" guys probably deserve to.  But guys who are *actually* nice?  Nah, not so much.

No argument there, Miss.

Some people might not get the subtle difference between a nice guy and a guy who is... nice, though. *laughs*

My head is spinning now, too. Oh, the pain.

what what what?  totally confused.
Anyway, if you really believe that nice guys finish last, maybe you should try to get a nice and intelligent girl instead of some shallow douche that goes for the ****s with money!

I'm sure a lot of girls would love a real-life Alistair. I don't think he's whiny either. Well, not more whiney than most men are in real life! That said, I totally share my concern for girls who break up with their boyfriends in some kind of Twilight like rage. If you want crazy, take a look at mylifeistwilight.com. Distuuuuuuurbing.

Alistair is a "perfect guy" because he is so pliable.

For a male main character, he never graduates from the "little brother" stage. Throughout the game, he looks up to you for almost everything, giving you a sense of being an awesome leader and a role model. Hint: it's easy to be an awesome leader and a role model if you are leading a ninny.

For a female main, Alistair will let you mold him into whatever you want to. I can only guess, being a man, that if all men acted like that in real life, women would briefly relish the bliss, and then promptly go lesbian from boredom.

Now, Alistair is no Carth,,, he has plenty corny, self-deprecating moments that save him from being completely unbearable, but a perfect man he ain't...

Yes, it does seem obvious that Alistair was designed to be appealing to the ladies.  Given his role in the game, it is odd to see him be such an over-sensitive, goofball type of character.

I can't imagine him catching rabbits for dinner without shedding a tear over hurting them.

I think what makes him so special is that he's what we're looking for socially. As a friend his goofy sense of humor (even in the midst of great danger) is always welcome. As a romantic partner he's handsome, tender, and possesses an absolute sense of right and wrong that others can only dream of.

I have played many games on my PC but no character has touched me on an emotional level as much as Alistair has. I can only wonder if the powers that be behind Dragon Age ever imagined that a shy, witty, sweet ex-templar-in-training would have such a profound effect on players.

Here's a pic of quiet time at camp between Alistair and my Noble rogue, Arturo. Enjoy!

Frankly, I can't imagine hime catching rabbits.

Not without tripping over his own trap line, and getting lost.

First, I will confess to being completely besotted by Alistair. I romance him in almost every playthrough because I just can't stand *not* being mushy with him. However, that being said, he is *not* perfect.

Why? Because he's no different than the other romances in DA... once you consummate the relationship, *you* have to initiate every intimate moment from then on. I would give a lot to have an Alistair that pulled me aside in camp for a kiss or snuggle.

I absolutely adore Alistair, even as a fictional character he is quite loveable. He is handsome, funny, romantic and endearingly silly. He is simultaneously strong in principle and soft at heart, a rare combination. The stereotypical warrior is hardened and has an aggressive no-nonsense approach to conflict. Alistair on the other hand, while still a fine warrior, has an innocence that doesn't reflect it, he's willing to defer to others, to follow and not lead, to make fun of himself, to admit when he's being awkward. He seems real. Bioware did an excellent job on him. Duncan too is rare in his unrelenting patience and sincere humility, never once does he lose his temper. I really think characters like these are what separate mediocre games and stories from great ones, you actually feel for them.

What is absolutely brilliant about Alistair is that he is in that last, awkward gap between boyhood and manhood. That is why he is attractive to me. Too often men are stuck in that 'I'm a MAN!' mindset, and aren't willing until wayyy down the road to be silly and quirky with you. It's a return to the pitfalls of youth, when you say stupid corny things and hope for the best. He is attractive because, to me, he represents these ideals before the world grinds you down -- especially because he is a character and thus immune to real world concerns about ability to be an adult and make hard choices when necessary.

Though I do feel he was neutered a little bit, personality wise, in order to ensure that you the player gets to make the final decisions.

That said he strongly reminds me of a young teenager version of my significant other, y'know, before he found out that girls can be mean ****es and the world full of cruelty. I'm sure his personality would get grating in the real world -- at least to me. He was meant to fill a sort of tender, goofy sidekick role and doesn't get to show his spine very often (it is there, though). A great character, all around. He sort of reminds me of a young version of Wash from Firefly.

I think the novelty of Alistair would wear off quite fast if he was real. Sweet, kind, funny, shy, romantic, nervous, is all well and good...

but I would much prefer someone like Zevran. Someone damaged, a pleasure-seeker, someone who has to dig deep for his emotions. A bad boy. :devil:

Haha, bad boys tend to irritate me because of how often they steadfastly refuse to admit other emotions exist beyond 'emitting badassery.' I guess that's why I tend to gravitate towards more humorous and dorky men -- for one I can make fun of them easily and can entice them to tease me back, and two they don't get all butthurt and huffy about it.

That said, I do like to see that little bit of naughtiness in characters (or even a bit irl too, I guess). It can be intriguing, with the excess of confidence and the bit of mystique. Too much irl though spells bad news imo.

I'm not sure if I should be posting this question on this forum but any way I was just wondering if anyone now where you could get a Alistair Lithographs or something along the lines. I'm trying to get my hands on one for my sister 21st birthday as she is scarily in love with him and I think she'd love it.
I mean even a good image of him will do, I can get it printed and stuff like that.
Any and all help would be great, thank you.

I don't know about lithographs, but she'd probably be thrilled if you comissioned something from one of the artists who do Dragon age art. I'm not sure who does and who doesn't, but there's no harm in asking.

Here's a couple of links to some folks whose work I think is very good. Since you mentioned lithographs, I've kept it to works in a painterly of lithographic style.

My husband's core personality is very much like Alistair's (loyal, kind, considerate but rather bright) and I'm still with him after 23 years.  Yes, the years have given him a tougher exterior, a certain veneer but at his heart...

I've always thought women who go for bad boys are making a big mistake. But that's just my view.

In my Alistair centric FF I have tried to age him somewhat and  to show him becoming a bit harder, a tad more pragmatic and resourceful (there is no reason why good guys should be fools!) but still the same man underneath it all.

Aimo Ahmed has done some excellent Alistair pictures I've bought a few myself.

I AM SO IN LOVE WITH HIM. I feel so embarrassed for admitting it, but oh Maker is he perfect. :3

When I wanted to see the different endings/playthroughs, I had to force myself to play as a guy because EVERY TIME I play as a girl, I always romance him. I just can't help it. Q_Q

No, he's not perfect, but that's what makes him so adorable ;P

My husband was exactly like Alistair when I met him. He will kill me for saying it aloud but it is true, even in his whinny aspects of personality. We've been together 21 years now (14 married) and we argue a lot. But I wouldn't change him by anyone.

(And that's coming from a Zevfangirl :P)
