Well, of course. It's a well-known fact that the main purpose of forums is for posters to insult each other and do as much as possible to spoil each other's fun. Who could expect anything different. What else could we possibly do? Discuss the game? Ridiculous. Let the bloodletting begin.
Do we really have to spend so much time aiming sharp sticks at each other's eyes? Really?
Yes, it's incredibly annoying and unnecessary. However, the sniping didn't go on for too long, thankfully, before everyone was like, 'Really? Oh, I'm sorry' 'No I'M sorry', etc. I like when that happens
I mean, don't get me wrong, flame wars have their place - I'm a big fan, personally - but in here was not it.

You mean because it leaves you free to bat your eyelashes at us lovely Ali-lovers? Aw, you are sweet :innocent:
Sorry to have to break it to you, however, but we're all... just too... smitten with Alistair to allow you a fighting chance.
So sorry
And to be fair, I fancy Sten a bit as well.

The thing about his appeal - and even Zevran's really - is that I DO know guys like Alistair, or with manyaspects of Alistair. In fact, I have more guy friends, and have had boyfriends in the past that are funny, self-deprecating, able to step up if they have to, but not alpha-male assertive douche types. They are reasonably confident about themselves in some areas and maybe not so much in other areas, but are articulate, smart and fun to hang out with. And yeah, some of them have been decently "romantic" at some times, and at other times, pretty block-headed.
I honestly don't know a bunch of mono-syllabic, macho, sword or gun-wielding leaders of men. Nor am I attracted to guys who can't lighten the hell up once in a while. Basically, most males in video games are the heroes, and most of them would be rather dull guys to hang out with if you met up with them at a party or something. "Uhm, can you stop scanning the crowd suspiciously for five minutes and not glare at the host angrily? Geez, have a fricking drink and lighten up!" Whereas if you met Alistair or Zevran at a party, you'd probably feel pretty relaxed in their company and be joking around a bit fairly quickly.
I think Bioware did a good job at creating a male character with a little more depth than you usually get. They did a good job with all of their characters tho, I have to say.

Not exactly
I maintain the theory that it's the voice that seduces all the Alistair fangirls. In real life, he wouldn't even be able to cook you dinner without crying about his mentor, cracking some lame jokes and then asking what you think you should eat and then wondering if maybe you should just cook it yourself since you're better at it anyway

Boyfriend and a couple of friends and I had a hilarious chuckle over that line. Someone suggested that it sounded like an extremely specific fetish porno...but then we all tried to imagine what it would actually involve and after a few seconds decided that we really couldn't, lol.
That said, I'd take Duncan over any of the romanceable NPCs.

Alistair is something like hubby would have been if he had been locked up in a convent. I don't think he is that whiney or a coward: he does jump into battle at every chance and does do what is needed for Ferelden... so I won't hold it against him if he is actually aware of his flaws and realizes that responsibility comes along with power.

Much as I've enjoyed talking endlessly with you guys about the merits (or otherwise) of Alistair, it's bed time. And yes I know it's strange to anounce it like this on a thread, but I feel like it would be rude to just bugger off.

I loved the comments about the party. I think that's exactly it for me, I could actually see myself approaching Alistair. He's just bumbling/self deprecating/innocent/silly enough that even though he's good looking, you could talk to him.
In other games, I just couldn't see the hero giving me the light of day. Plus...who doesn't like a guy who picks a flower in the middle of battle, then gives it to you and tells you you're a rare and beautiful thing.
I still blush every time. Maybe I'm a sap, and maybe I just haven't had enough guys use silly lines on me...but I like it.

Ah, strokes and folks. I think there's a little bit of Alistair in every man... well, every man who isn't a alpha macho jackhole. He reminds me of myself in some ways, but I'd have to differentiate myself as more of a jerk who is simultaneously less adverse to responsibility.
I dunno, he just seems very boy-toyish from a romance perspective. Like, not the kind of guy to sweep you off you feet. More like the guy you keep in your pocket. Which in the real world usually means you're the equivalent of a "dick in a jar" or something similar
But he is good looking and has a smashing voice, so it's not a total mystery.
