Ah, strokes and folks. I think there's a little bit of Alistair in every man... well, every man who isn't a alpha macho jackhole. He reminds me of myself in some ways, but I'd have to differentiate myself as more of a jerk who is simultaneously less adverse to responsibility.

I dunno, he just seems very boy-toyish from a romance perspective. Like, not the kind of guy to sweep you off you feet. More like the guy you keep in your pocket. Which in the real world usually means you're the equivalent of a "dick in a jar" or something similar :?. Which is how I spent most of my high school romance career LOL.

But he is good looking and has a smashing voice, so it's not a total mystery.

Exactly the opposite, I think he would be exactly the kind to sweep one off one's feet, and that's one thing that attracts me to him. Also, I don't find him particularly good-looking at all.

Anyway, bed time, bye :wizard:

LMAO. Convincing Sten that you actually are a woman would be a step in the right direction.

Yeah, at some point Sarielle just decided it wasn't worth the hassle, since it didn't affect him fighting for her in the long run, lol.

I can totally imagine Juliana casting a look in Alistair's direction and saying, "A little help please...surely you could testify to the fact that I am indeed a woman..."

...to which he simply shrugs and laughs and says, "You're on your own there."

I'm not exactly an Alistair lover but, I still think the character is great. The first time I saw him I thought this guy is pathetic but then i found him noble hearted somehow, great work in this character indeed. What a speech he gives before the war don't you think?

Yeah...that speech is awesome.  My little brother goes, "Good thing they did that after you picked who was going to rule the country.  The people wouldn't have had it any other way if he'd have spoken like that during the landsmeet.

Personally, I breathed a huge sigh of relief.

Now the banter between the other companions when talking about this love interest is amusing indeed.

Exactly. My dream man :)

And I am British myself, so I don't think it's his accent that seduced me. I just love his personality. There's nothing wrong with being indecisive and a bit of a bumbling oaf (I am both of these things, you see).

I would say in Britain we appreciate the cynical & sarcastic side of humour a little bit more than most which characters & personas like Alistair provide in abundance, can see why it might appeal. Image IPB

LOL this thread is making me glad I'm single at the moment, for once. So I thank you all for that!

I still don't understand what ladies see in Alistair over Sten...

This...is something that you should figure out. For your own sake. ;)

Well, it's the old adage, you know. Lots of women SAY they want a sweet, nice guy with a great sense of humor and looks aren't important. Reality tends to show different patterns.

Thanks for the links to aimo! LOL

I thought the rose thing was great too. I suppose the genius in this character is realizing that women don't really marry husbands. We adopt them. The point of no return in any relationship is when your boyfriend is no longer "hot", he is "cute": now you are done for.

Alistair is perfect, as long as you can look past his imperfections. The same with all relationships.

This is coming from someone who was bromantically involved with him throughout the course of the game.

I wonder if age has anything to do with how "perfect" females find Alistair?

I'm going to bet the older one is, the less entranced with him they are. And no, Cybercat, I'm not insinuating you're old. :o Just more mature possibly.

I would say it could be the opposite.

When I play my games, I am not looking for a soul searing romance, or something that reflects my RL persona, or likes and dislikes. Sure, in RL, what I may look for is different. However, in a game, I am looking to be amused and entertained and the entertainment value of a sweet bumbling sort though subjective is undeniable.

It is the way 14 year old boys act when a hawt teacher comes into class. Puppy love. An older woman may not take advantage of this, but it sometimes sweet to watch someone fumble because they are so taken by you- in an objective sense. Thus though an elder woman may not romance a RL Allistair, his approach may seem flattering in a fantasy game, as a contrast to her more realistic RL romances.

That said, I can *completely* understand why someone would hate Allistair and want someone with more mojo. All in game romances are subjective.  He can be adorable if you like the innocent as opposed to the worldly wise guy in your games. Conversely, if you don't, he can seem really annoying.

He is a wonder, and definitely the perfect man... for my character (though she's probably still holding out a little hope that Mrs Gorim will sod off and die, even after all the developments and Ally love).

I hadn't seen any promo stuff before I started playing, so I toodled off to meet Alistair thinking, as I'm sure my little Dwarva was, "Oh, bring on the meatheat warrior then." Then BioWare curveballed both of us.

I'll admit, I got very swept along in the first instance because he is just so very sweet, but I get bored of boys very quickly in real life.

I found myself, quite geniunely, hugely in love with Sten <3 Now there's a REAL man. Qunari. Whatever.

How can anyone fall in love with a "man" that says that women ought to be teachers, artisans, housewives or whatnot, and anything else is them wanting to be a man?

He comes round from that if you grow closer to him, and accepts that you are more than and different from what he percieved you to be.

I don't know why, in the end. I could ask why women fall in love with a man who they will have to mother, but I think I know the answer. :P

I have Sten at max approval and he is respectful but still thinks I am no woman. He is set in his beliefs and I would never adhere to them, even though he might be impressive as a warrior.

And yes... in the end, we all marry babies.

The thing about it though...is that all these people say you have to mother Alistair.

In the beginning, he's inexperienced and unwilling to take any responsibility. The key is...that changes. This is a spoiler free thread, so I'm not going to go into details...but there's one ending that I've seen where Alistair is SO responsible, so assertive, and so intense. It's one of those things.

I'm not a fan of Sten, but hey again...to each their own. Your drawf and him would make a cute couple!

I do happen to agree that it's Alistair's awkwardness that makes him so lovable. It's just that he does put himself out there, is sweet and romantic, but doesn't give off a "i can get any girl I want" vibe. It's that that sweeps me off my feet, the fact that you feel he'd appreciate getting to be with you.

Ha! My Dwarva wouldn't go near him- she has a thing for her second in commands because she can get her own way with them :P

However, I look pretty much identical to her, so thanks I guess

Maybe if perfect meant completely whiny and a wuss. Why isn't there an option to abandon alistair again at the beginning of the game?

Yes it is, but it is best to discuss the obvious. People tend to disagree less.Everybody knows the answer is "No". :)
