And we're back to "how do the writers deal with headcanon".

Simple.

Its the number 1 rule of any game ever, just a bit more important to RPGs.

NEVER assume ANYTHING about the player.

There is no writer or developer alive that can account for an infinite number of variables. This may bring us to the "What is an RPG" debate in which case I must depart because that goes against what I'm willing to discuss around here.

I don't mean to account for a million variables, but this is why PLAY TESTING exists.

If I can logically go 'Wait, LotSB mentioned a Lung Transplant' the INSTANT I see Thane, its certainly worthy of being Shepard's natural reply.

Basiclly, Shepard cannot deviate too far from who the Player is. ME1 had no auto-dialogue and every comment was directed by the player.

ME2 had some auto-dialogue but I found them reasonable enough to not complain.

In ME3, Shepard became his own entity and responded free of my own actions and would often do things too far out of reason for me to say as my/Shepard's natural response.

The issue is that ME1 and ME2 handeled it so well, but ME3 didn't.

and herein lies my biggest gripe with me3

ME1 didn't have autodialogue.. no it just had two options that lead to the same response. We're starting to get grossly off-topic here and I need to bow out anyway. I do, sincerely hope the new DLC gives you guys something to cheer about, really. Thane wasn't my favourite LI but that doesn't mean his fans or their concerns should be overlooked. Good luck to you all on March 5th.

Agreed, without looking, who here can correctly guess the title of this topic:P

This all just demonstrates what happens when you change writers mid-game. If Chris L'Etoile wrote Thane in ME3 as well, we wouldn't be banging our heads against the wall in threads like this. Whoever took over and wrote the character in ME3 obviously had no idea what they were doing.

Matter of fact, even disregarding Thane, Chris' absence REALLY shows in ME3.

"me3 sucked in every possible way and we can't discuss one crappy event without another popping up because it's all fairly interrelated"?

Alright, so help me out... somebody please... What is the situation regarding Thane in the upcoming dlc? Are fans still just speculating? Or is there solid information on this matter?

I remember Bioware was at some Convention and Thane's ME3 writer was discussing how he was so exicted to write an assassin (This convention was post release, mind you) and how he did Thane justice and wanted to write EDI too.

I wanted to punch my monitor after that. Gah. It was terrible to watch.

I make more choices in GTA. Run over that guy in the hat or steal his money...hmmmm.

I also hate how people say ME3 has no choices at all, yes it is A LOT more streamlined, but there are still choices. I feel giddy and partially sad for one of my favourite franchises saying this, but Black Ops 2 had a better storyline than ME3. Yes, a CoD game having a better, more planned storyline. An FPS game having more meaningful choices.

And about Thane: he will probably be in the DLC, So I guess Kerpal's Syndrome is a lung disease? Why not get Synthetic lungs? (Don't start the Synthetic Vs Organic **** please.)

From what has been said, There is some small Thane Romance Only content in the DLC. Thane has not been resurected and his character derailment has not been fixed or at least admitied fault to.

One of the writers (Steve's writer) tolds us Thane is still dead but we will get a surprise for Thane mancers. Probably a holo or a letter.

Though judging from what Bioware has been doing to FemSheps it is going to be a holo of Rick Martin singing "Never gonna give you up". Rickrolling us is pretty much what they did on ME3:sick:

I'm still baffled as to why Chris never became lead after Drew. I mean, the guy co-created the entire MEverse with Drew (he's responsible for a lot of its more cynical and grittier aspects), wrote every single Primary Codex entry in ME1, and wrote some of the most flawed and interesting characters in ME1 and 2.
I also found his ideas for synthetic life a hell of a lot better and more original than whoever wrote EDI and the Geth in ME3.

Oh and the same "genius" was also the writer that told fans the "breath" scene on destroy could be Shepard's last breath.

He is a jerk

There's a LOT of stuff from LotSB that isn't referenced in ME3, take Garrus' mother for example or Miranda's sterility. Just because it was there (and not everyone played LotSB) means it has to be addressed later.

But it's fine to have the entire reason for the intro of ME3 be based on a dlc.

Also what lyss said.

There's a line in the beginning that refers to players who didn't do Arrival, it wasn't pivotal to the plot of ME3.

I don't disagree that those LotSB "easter eggs" should have been expanded on but the fact that one wasn't when others weren't sort of indicates they weren't super important.

Almost nothing in any of these games is important, let alone super important. You could delete everything in ME 2 and nothing would be lost. The game contributes nothing to the plot. This is not a criticism of ME 2, but a criticism of the writing of ME 3, which ignores everything about the preceding game.

The events of the previous game should be important. That way it avoids people getting pissed the F off the way a lot of Bioware's fans are these days. Especially since tons of people like the ME 2 characters way more than the ME 3 cast.

*snip*

I got the impression in ME2 that Shepard added a new complication to something he was totally ok with until that moment but then ME3 came along and he was at peace. That's how I saw it anyway, your mileage may vary.

And Jacob, well, that was fine too. I can see why the Jacobmancers might not like it (and I can see why the Thanemancers aren't happy) but that's how the cookie crumbles. If you're going to mention the SM then all LIs bar the VS and Liara are fair game. Thane joins the team so late in ME2 though so it's easy to see why he is not given "equal treatment".

Well yes, as a Jacobmancers I do have some few objections to the way that thing was handeled. Ok that he cheats, the LI:s should be able to move on since Shepard can. What I did not like was how FemShep acted during the incident. Jacob is really quite mean to her and instead of talking back, not letting him get away with that she pretty much has the choice beteen just forgiving him and ignoring all of it or asking him to have sex with her one last time.

Normandy was your real love
I would have like the opportunity to tell him that no Shepard is not in love with the ship.

Was hoping that Jacob would wait, but since he didn't that he at least would not talk to her in such a bad way.
It irks quite a bit that after all that bullcrap he has unloaded on FemShep througout this convo all you can do is either forgive him or try to talk him into having pity-sex with FemShep. This did not feel like my character at all, don't know what happened. If that renegade option had been turned into a way to tell him what a jackass he is, and then just save the people and ignore him for the rest of the mission I would have been happier.

And I will leave, it is Thane's thread so don't want to clutter it up too much with Jacob's stuff even if they have some similair problems. People acting very strange.

Kepreal's Syndrome is a desiese based on a real world illness (Can't remember the name). Basically, Thane is unable to process the water in the air and will basically drown (I think. Got some cobwebs in my brain).

That was Kepral's Syndrome in ME2...

In ME3, It it retcon'd into hemoglobin not being produced. A very very different diagnosis with no explination.

Anyways, ME2 gave Thane 2 possible outs; the Hanar development and the LotSB Lung Transplant, which would basically mean he'd have to catch the illness again to become, well, ill.

ME3 has Medi-Gel for the lungs which is almost spesifically written for Thane. Like a Christmas Present with a beautiful Bow on top.

Is Thane worth romancing in ME2? I'm replaying the game and want to romance someone other than Garrus this time. Thane has a certain appeal to him but his ME3 fate makes me wonder.

I guess we'll see what kind of acknowledgement he gets in this DLC. Though anything is a step up from Garrus, Joker and EDI forgetting his existence post-Coup.

There's no point romancing Thane period anymore. I deleted my Thane ormance pt a year ago, it's done. You might as well stick with Garrus and remeber Thane as he was in ME2. A well written character.

That's too bad.  Oh well.  I would be setting myself up for disappointment after being spoiled with Garrus.

I do hope this DLC gives some kind of resolution for you Thanemancers.  I doubt we'll be able to save him :(
