If you think he was horribly characterized, I'd agree. I think it's definitely horrible writing that ME2 builds up his "hope to live" then reverts him abruptly back to resignation of the inevitable with seemingly no explanation whatsoever in ME3. I think it's putrid writing that once he DOES pass away, it's like he never existed, especially to the person who supposedly loved him.
But do I think it's bad writing that a terminally ill character came to terms with his mortality and put everything he had in one last fight and that the story didn't give you the option to save him from that fate? No... though the execution of that scene left much to be desired.
So you and I are actually on the exact same page, then.
I am a Thane fan, not a Thanemancer. Nothing that's going on here actually directly affects my Shepard, just like you. I just want Thane fans to get the same amount of content other LIs got. It didn't seem fair to me (and it never will) that the only "bad" LI outcomes happened to Femshep LIs in ME3, whereas Maleshep continued to get both hetero and ****** LIs added. If ME3 had the exact same LIs as ME2, and an LI of each gender was booted? Say, Jack cheats and runs or something? then I wouldn't be here. Because, again, magic phrase: equal treatment. They shafted Femshep, and that isn't fair.
As for the writing - I will never find it excuseable, above all else, that his development towards valuing life was retconned. They never brought it up or even gave an explanation for the regression. That is OBJECTIVLY bad writing.
There are a lot of different thane fans who have voiced themselves over the past year, and his death is not the main factor at work here. The main factors are equal treatment and coherent writing.

That doesn't prove it came from this Group.

Why do you keep saying it was someone from this group when it wasn't.
Do you mind providing me with the post in which I refer to "the members of Thane-related groups from BSN"? I have no idea why you assume the phrase "Thane fan" is an automatic link to one small subsection of a pretty large fanbase scattered all over the internet, but okay.
edit:

Equal "treatment" is not indicative of
good writing at all. Nor is "unequal treatment" indicative of any kind
of problem. All characters do not need the same amount of
screentime...and that's really the end of it. I'm glad that characters
like Liara, Garrus, and Tali get a stronger focus than other characters.

Bioware killed a character. That's all they did. What that character could have been was so much more than that. Too many opportunities lost._Heather_Shepard_ wrote...
It is sad, but it is true. A waste of an amazing character. Unbelievable, Bioware.
I'm stepping in here as a fan, not as a dev.
For a long time I wondered if a game could affect me enough to actually get me to cry, to have at least one tear stream down my face. Movies could do it, and I could get immersed in many games enough to affect me very deeply, but never to the degree where I actually teared up.
Then last year not one, but two games got me to cry. One was Telltale's: The Walking Dead, and I don't want to spoil anything by saying when. The other one was Mass Effect 3, when I played it at home after ship. And the scene that did it was Thane's death scene. I'm a sucker for father/son moments, and when I was told the prayer was for me, oh man, it was too much. And it was awesome. It sits as a high moment in gaming for me.
To say that was a waste of an amazing character, I personally have to disagree. My love for Thane lead me to an emotional experience that I hadn't encounter before in a game. It is sad that Thane was gone, but that in part is what made it special to me. I do acknowledge that he wasn't my love interest, but I think if he was, I would have had the expectation that it was a romance destined for tragedy. It's a Romeo and Juliet tale; It's a bitter sweet ending. I say this as a fan, and not speaking officially for BioWare. It's just my opinion.
I think Thane was one of the characters that got the best ending on the game, I really enjoy he showing up to save the day and his last scene. It's better than a forced cure or something like that. It was a good end for a character and the prayer scene is really amazing, mostly when you see how the scene change from one Shepard to another =D

We will all be lumped into the same group, and she did say it came from someone at bsn.

"dead like your boyfriend #ohnoIwentthere" was his tweet.
You keep treating people with this open contempt and even going so low as to get a gravely ill fan post to try to shame us into silence and you get people spitting mad. Even dogs can feel inequality. If I give my Spike a steak and my Spot a breadcrumb he will whine and look at me betrayed. We see how we are being treated and demonized for wanting equal treatment.
I do not agree and do not condone threats but I do understand the anger. Bioware and BSN has wiped his arse with us. Now we are AGAIN shafted and dumped upon. It is a pretty shameful way to treat your fellow fans and your customers. And someone on the receiving end might get too blind with anger and say something out of line. I'm surprised it took so long.

Wow. That's not ok. She shouldn't take it personally, though, I'm sure every company gets that.
Well... yeah, but you can't really blame her. It should not have been said, either way.
sigh... this is all just a baaad, bad issue. Some people have been dwelling on this anger
for an entire year, so theres a sort of cathartic purge going on now
that they've realized this is the end, I guess. Plus there's the whole terminal
illness aspect that makes this extremely personal for some people.mnomaha @JessicaMerizan Oh, no, got an admission and dealt with it. I hope. We may hate what you have done (or not done really) but that's not cool
Could you please read all the relevant conversation before forwarding the information. I was incorrect. Which was addressed already. It was an easy time to jump to that conclusion, but it was a stupid thing to do on my part.
There was no proof present to me then or now and I have dismissed these claims.
edit: this wasn't aimed at you Ren. You were just the one I commented on. Sorry if you got that impression.
Why do you keep saying it was someone from this group when it wasn't.

This was the exchange. And it's sort of why this whole exchange is leaving a bad taste in my mouth. A few innuendos and an entire fanbase is falsely accused.

I was also discussing it in the Thane group.
Like I said (after I had thought about it more) there was no evidence and I did not find whatever she was talking about.
Like the common saying goes: Pictures or it didn't happen and I'm going with that.
