That's fair enough. It's just I don't see his death and condition as being poorly written. We can agree to disagree there.

The lack of content before (and after) his demise however, is another matter. If these hints BW are dropping have any meaning, maybe this DLC will address that.

will believe when I see it

Heavy Thanemancer here. Agreed, the way his character was handled in ME3 was ridiculous. I don't give a crap what people say that, "War all knew he was going to die BS". He showed us a different side when romanced. At least give us the chance to have something with him, the ones who romanced him. Seriously, my FemShep had the ridiculous option to be a lesbo since I killed off Kaidan in Virmire.

And Garrus doesn't count unless you romanced him in ME2, otherwise, there is no chance to romance anyone other than Kaidan in ME3 if you're straight.

Kaidan could have died on Virmire. If you decide to chose the interested later speech, then go to Virmire, the Paragon option is for Kaidan to help the Salarians (If you press romance now then Ashley is the Paragon option). Then the next Paragon option is to save the bomb...thus Ashley.

It is possible for Femshep to have no available heterosexual LI in ME3.

Menzen tweeted that Thane is 'complicated and spoilery'.

Could we still have hope?

...my little heart just went pitter-pat.  I'm on my second playthrough now and just finished the Citadel coup - with a save both before I start it up, and afterwards.  I had incorrectly remembered that the end of the coup directly led into a cutscene with Thane dying, but actually you're left in Bailey's office in C-Sec and have to walk to Huerta Memorial.  There is certanly content they could add with the doctor you speak with regarding the blood transfusions...maybe dialogue that says he pulls through?  :?:crying:<3

If, let us say if...it is possible for Thane to survive to later in the game. What do you think we'd need?

So far I'd say:

Kirrahe must survive, both Virmire (ME) and Surkesh (ME3). Sorry Kirrahe but he is your Councillor...
Paragon Femshep romance in ME2, and not part of a love triangle with VS.
Reconfirm relationship in ME3.
Make sure that Huerta Hospital gets the Alien medigel formula (war asset).

Is there anything else we can think of that might influence it?

Yes, they do. However this DLC is being described as re-uniting you with ME1/2 team mates and rekindling old romances.

Maybe they'll have a wheezing hologram of Thane delivering a final message.

I'm thinking probably a hologram recorded before the coup, or else maybe the DLC activates some additional scenes with Thane before the coup even though the rest of it doesn't happen until afterwards.

Narratively speaking, Thane pretty much has to die right after the coup is foiled. It would be kind of weird for him to recover fully from being stabbed, have DLC scenes, and *then* get worse and die later.

The thing is, we've GOT a message-from-the-dead bit for the romance already. And okay, it was just recycled from LotSB, but we got it. Can't speak for those who want a cure (obviously in that case fixing the narrative gets a lot more complex), but in my personal opinion the two things were missing were 1) content WITH Thane during the romance pre-death and 2) closure post-death via other characters, not just via a post-mortem message/holo/etc. I suspect we'll get the 2nd in this DLC, but it's terribly sad that it looks like the romance will always be missing the first part.

And yeah, I agree with you that since this can be triggered anytime after the coup, the chances that Thane's going to be "alive" for it even if you do it literally just after the coup are close to nil. Most DLC opens on a holo/email to Shep's personal terminal anyway. That requires boarding the Normandy to trigger, and Thane just dies offscreen if you do that after the coup without visiting him first, IIRC.

Edited to add: yeah, the no-hetero-LI-available thing happened to me, too :/

It's ridiculous how they kill off the one character you love and are forced to choose a lesbian romance if Kaidan was killed.

Look, Bioware isn't stupid, they aren't just going to disinclude ONE character from the ME Squads in the trilogy. I'm sure they've come up w/ a creative way to provide content for Thane.

Are we talking about the same Bioware?

But yeah, oh man is Femshep getting shafted in terms of hetro romances. This DLC isn't going to fix that, since Thane is dead and Jacob is a cheating bastard. Only Garbear is left. Ah well...

After Thane dies my Femsheps are celibate. I hate the fact that people continue to hit on you though....and that includes Liara, Traynor and Allers... Image IPB

No surprise. BioWare believes most people play FemShep are males and are) n it for the girl-on-girl action. It's obviously not the same BioWare we all knew and loved.

Oh, pish-posh. They could upload a Thane-themed VI into Thane's head, hook him up with a miniature heart-and-lung machine to keep his body operable, then go on whacky hijinks together again.

It'd be like a sexier, way creepier, version of Weekend at Bernie's.

yeah, of terminal illness

Yeah but its Science Fiction so there is always hope that writers can do whatever the heck they want!

I mean Shepard died between ME1 and ME2.

lol you're confused

my point was that they killed him off with some stupid ninja because apparently there's something shameful in dying of a terminal illness

Omg I know

This DLC will allow Thane's mind to be uploaded in the cyberworld of the virtual aliens and then downloaded in another Drell body allowing Femshep to continue the romance......

Sadly only two bodies are available....one is a female drell and the other is Kolyat who apparently has a creepy stepmom-like crush on femshep all along.....

I am going to run for my life now

I always liked Thane. Probably my favourite squadmate behind Garrus and Miranda.

I was a little disappointed to hear he'd "re-resigned" himself to death even in the romance arc. Though, I must say I never had an issue with the inevitability of his death. It might have been nicer to hear that he'd been undergoing new treatment and the results were positive. Only to have his death during the coup be that much more tragic.

Though, I know some would have hated this.

Still I hope he gets something in this new dlc. Even if it's through Kolyat or a voice recording or something.

This has occurred to me. However Mass Effect has a 40% female player base, so they should be aiming some of the game at us.

Unfortunately, as a side effect he develops a weakness to drowning, turns bisexual and develops a blood fetish. He also develops a rare form of Tourette's, causing him to spout long excerpts of melancholy exposition in the middle of combat, that has absolutely nothing to do with anything you are, have been, or ever will do, that everyone thanks to the hypnotic effect of drell voices is forced to stop and listen to.

There's already a cybernetic ninja in the game the entire community hates with a passion well before the game itself even came out, that the devs probably should have known better than to add in the first place, so **** it.
