OK, that's fair. I took the EC as a gesture of goodwill, but you know me. The eternal optimist

I'm stepping in here as a fan, not as a dev.
For a long time I wondered if a game could affect me enough to actually get me to cry, to have at least one tear stream down my face. Movies could do it, and I could get immersed in many games enough to affect me very deeply, but never to the degree where I actually teared up.
Then last year not one, but two games got me to cry. One was Telltale's: The Walking Dead, and I don't want to spoil anything by saying when. The other one was Mass Effect 3, when I played it at home after ship. And the scene that did it was Thane's death scene. I'm a sucker for father/son moments, and when I was told the prayer was for me, oh man, it was too much. And it was awesome. It sits as a high moment in gaming for me.
To say that was a waste of an amazing character, I personally have to disagree. My love for Thane lead me to an emotional experience that I hadn't encounter before in a game. It is sad that Thane was gone, but that in part is what made it special to me. I do acknowledge that he wasn't my love interest, but I think if he was, I would have had the expectation that it was a romance destined for tragedy. It's a Romeo and Juliet tale; It's a bitter sweet ending. I say this as a fan, and not speaking officially for BioWare. It's just my opinion.
First, the prayer scene was off for me. That wasn't Thane's style in ME2. It felt forced. The whole scene was flat. Devoid of any meaning. Especially when it was determined that the scene was the same for those who did not romance Thane and for those who did. I didn't cry. I felt let down.
Second, it wasn't bittersweet for those that romanced Thane because the whole scenario was lacking in any emotional connectivity between the character that romanced Thane and what Thane was saying as a character. There was no moment of love, of loss or of grieving.
As to the whole tragic love story. In my opinion, anyone who thinks death is a great way to end anything, has yet to really understand what it means to lose someone to death. They may have seen death, they have known a few people that died but they have yet to understand what it means to lose someone. It's a loss. That's what was missing. Shepard barely batted an eyelash, then Kaidan immediately picked up where he left off. I would have loved a renegade interrupt at that moment to kick Kaidan out of an airlock.
Of course there is the argument of, "you knew he was dying." Yes. We did. But here's the thing. Shepard is a Hero. She saved countless lives. She spoke to a Reaper, killed one. She saved humanity with barely a scratch but she couldn't stop for one second to grieve Thane's loss. Yet, she did so with others.
She couldn't save Thane either because she never tried. Death was the easy trope. Death was the certainty but you know what? Death isn't the end. The story should continue. The Hero should be doing everything that they can do, they should at least TRY to do something. Not just sit back and let death have its way. The whole premise of the game was to save Earth. Save humanity. Yet, she didn't even try for the one person who loved her. She tried for everyone except Thane.
So. It was a lost opportunity. It was a lost opportunity for a struggle, for conflict, and to give closure. Instead Thane was swept under the rug and passed over. The ball was dropped and the whole scenario had no meaning.
I am glad for you that it was such an emotional experience. For me, it was a disappointment. Yet, I am coming from a different life perspective, one in which I have lost people. They just didn't die. I lost them. I have seen a lot of pain and suffering in this world and as a human being, I tried everything I could in my power to keep them here and keep them with me. I would have liked to see Shepard do the same. Simply because I think any human being would.
In the end, Thane left a legacy.
You see, the story of Thane gave me the opportunity to meet one of the best men I have ever known. For that I thank Chris and Bioware. I am grateful. Thane is me and my best friend's shared history. It's been a wonderful two and half years. We have moved on from Mass Effect. We still talk about Thane and we remember the fun times we had here but, we came to the reality that Bioware will never do justice to Thane simply because the heart and soul that made him are no longer in Bioware. I accepted that. I am still thankful and grateful.
So for what its worth, it was a pleasure to play Mass Effect 1 and 2. It was a pleasure to know Thane. It was even more so to have cared for him.
I hope the people who romanced and care for this character do not give up. Despite the put downs, despite the trolling and despite no future possibilities. Simply because Thane as a character is worth it. I would love to see more of him. A comic, a graphic novel. Something. Yet, I doubt anyone can do his story justice. So, it is what it is.

Back to thread topic:
A) Will we get Thane content? If so what gameplay conditions need to be met to save Thane from death by Kai Leng?
C) Have Bioware forgotten us?
A) He will definitely get some content, but probably small and not satisfying since he still dies either way.
C) They didn't, otherwise they'd stop to manipulate and bully you.

Here are my speculations and they all occur after the Citadel conspiracy mission is over and Shepard is chilling in her shiny new apartment.
1) A video that Thane pre-recorded for Shepard is delivered (so we get to hear his voice actor again at least).
2) Kolyat stops by for a visit and gives Shep Thane's prayer book which becomes a permanent apartment item.
3) Some of the squad comes over and they toast their fallen comrade (though this seems like it shouldn't be romance-specific).
4) Shepard eats some bad sushi and has a dream sequence involving Thane and the ocean.
5) Liara reads Thane's letter from LotSB out loud while performing an interpretive dance.
Any other ideas?

I really wish people would realize, taking away the Thane issues, is that BW has introduced and encourage unequal treatment of fanbases. And it's a bad precedent.
-Femshep has two hetero LIs taken away without anything to replace them. BroShep keeps his.
-Protests by fans of LIs that were taken away are belittled and ignored. Fans of broShep's LIs that didn't get what they want are praised and encouraged.
-Fans of taken femShep LIs won't get any content compared to what broShep LI's get.
This is the true issue. People should be scared that this unequal treatment could happen to a character they like. THis isn't about Thane dying or Jacob being a cheater, it's about femShep being left in the lurch.
It's so obvious, there are only 2 real male romances in ME3. And even though BW did the unbelievable (made romance fan-service DLC) it looks like Thane and Jacob won't get much added to them even though they were shafted the most.
Never would have seen this coming after playing ME2, now that you go back to it it's just Garrus that counts really. I wondering if the male romance figure will remain 2 in this DLC or shep will get even more females to sleep with <_<

Hmf, I was thinking the same thing, especially in regards to the last part of your comment! Jacob had always hit me like the stalwart, stable type...I would have never seen his part in ME3 coming; if anything I'd expect him to stand by Shepard!!O.o
And Thane, who is the subject of this thread...the arguments have all been made, I know I've repeated them at least twice in here alone, even, but the wound is still there for all of us who romanced him!!
And yeaah...getting random female characters hitting on FemShep right after Thane dies; one more instance of adding insult to injury as far as Thanemancers were concerned!!<_<

Jack's comment about him: "Jacob still doesn't know who he is. But that's not my problem."
Samara too: " Events will either make him a great man, or utterly destory him."
This pretty much sums up what I felt about him. He was just a soldier who became a merc. Following orders. Nothing in his character could awake any of my attention. I saw no conviction in him, no real belief, no personnality. Nothing.
And his whole "I don't trust Thane because he's just a more precise merc" made me laugh hard.
In fact, having him protecting the Cerberus scientists (because his new girlfriend is one of them) and cheating on Femshep is surprisingly one of the most coherent character developments in ME3. He somehow found his way. The writers, for once, stayed true to the picture they've made of him.
Thane was butchered. No doubts. His death by space ninja is the worst insult you could do to a character. But so were all the ME2 characters, reduced to simple, insignificant cameos. Denying a last meeting to the Thanemancers wasn't a smart move though. And Thane, who is the subject of this thread...the arguments have all been made, I know I've repeated them at least twice in here alone, even, but the wound is still there for all of us who romanced him!!

LOl ,well, when you put it like that regarding Jacob, you're absolutely right!! That was just my vibe off him- that he would like to belong somewhere and once he had found a place-aka by Shepard's side- he would like to stay and hold on to the good in his life...But he did not know where he wanted to go, that is true, so I stand corrected!
As for Thane, you put it just right!!:/

But, it is what it is... I'd like it to be changed, but it looks like they already made their decision... just like Mordin wouldn't be available and I doubt Legion would be either.
