Why don't you just go back to worshipping Liara or whoever you like and leave us alone?
Shep killed a lot of people, especially renegade, when he/she didn't have to and no one calls him/her a criminal. Criminal is a word I would use for a drug dealer, murderer and thief. Thane killed, yes, but his victims weren't innocent.

Maybe you ought to be open to people having opinions different from your own. This is a thread in the Story and Campaign Discussion forum, not a private group where the entrance requirements are everyone sharing the same opinion.

Thane broke laws, therefore he was a criminal. It doesn't matter if the victims weren't innocent. Is a mafia hitman any less of a criminal if his victims are all people who are involved in organized crime?

And you are wrong that no one ever called Shepard a criminal. Shepard spends a year imprisoned because of his association with Cerberus (a criminal organization) and for his role in the events of Arrival. Of course we (the players) know Shepard did all of that for the right reasons, but to many people in the galaxy prior to the Reaper invasion Shepard would have been viewed as a criminal.

Why are you still arguing about this.
You thought it was ok for Shep to mention that. I didn't. Others didn't. Just leave it at that.

Because your definition of criminal was wrong, and Thane was a murderer.

Saying you don't like the use of the word criminal in the eulogy is one thing, and just a matter of personal preference. Claiming the word itself is inaccurate however when applied to Thane is incorrect.

When did I say that?

I really liked Thane and when he died in ME3 I cried. I could relate in many ways to the relationship between Thane and Kolyat and so it added so much to those two characters. I loved his memorial and I wish Kolyat could have been invited to the party. Thane's messages were touching.

Mordin's death also was a tear jerker for me.

Thane was an assassin - a criminal- who died a hero.

It is an accurate statement.

Thane started off in the employ of the Hanar state, but eventually turned freelancer and killed for profit. That makes him a criminal. The revenge killing of Thane's wife was in part motivated by one of these freelance hits on a Batarian mercenary. The fact that Thane became an assassin for hire (otherwise known as a criminal), an act that indirectly caused his wife's death, is part of the reason why he was seeking atonement.

I honestly can't believe some Thane fans are complaining about that line. The people who profess to be the biggest fans of the character, are at least in some cases, not very knowledgeable about that character's backstory.

Most of the ME 2 squad were criminals - Jack, Zaeed, Kasumi, Miranda, Jacob, Garrus ...

They closed the character forums... If you ppl posting inhere reply to flamebait postings and do p attacks and are not staying ontopic.... they will lock this tread also.

All LI exept Kelly Chambers, Cough Allers Cough and Thane can be taken in the combat arena
I think thats very unfair to thanemancers. Thane is the only LI one that participated in the fightings in ME2 that is left out.

In my opinion its very unfair. Thanemancers who buy the DLC also are entitled to have him as a fighting squadmate in the Arena like everybody else have gotten theirs.

(i never romanced Thane, i dont even feel something special for him) But i do understand the points that ppl that did romance Thane made in this tread and in Thanes storyarc.

You all Take Care.

Yup, I found that they are the most interesting characters in the entire series. In some playthroughs, even Tali is considered a criminal. Shephard certainly is at that point. The interesting thing to me is the path to crime and the path to redemption for these people. In ME2, you are grouped with very complex people and the more time you spend digging into their personalities, the more rewarding it is. I feel there is a mutual giving back and forth from this crew to Shepard- as if they are the closest friends in the universe.

I was unaffected by Shepard saying Thane was a criminal. Thane was an assassin, so I guess in that respect he's a criminal, but he's one of those grey area characters that isn't a "bad guy." He was a spiritual person who respected life and death and acknowledges that he committed wrongs. He spends the remainder of his life trying to make things right and give back to the galaxy. There seems to be a pattern of this for a majority of the ME2 crew. It is up to you as their shepherd to lead your team down a path of redemption.

I'm grateful that Bioware did give Thane acknowledgement in the DLC- a memorial and a goodbye, but it just sucks horribly that he died and there had to be a DLC for any type of acknowledgement from the crew. I wish he could have been a part of the squad. I'm glad that Shepard was able to speak with Kolyat (and terrified that he stayed on the Citadel after that D: ).

ME3 as a whole, is pretty traumatizing to me though. All of my favorite characters die and it seems like just a downward spiral from there. The game makes me very depressed lol, so while I'm grateful for what was given in the DLC, I'm still upset that Thane is dead and the ending is still the ending. I also, just don't think I could go back to that :(

Sorry for the tldr- just wanted to throw in my 2 cents.

My femshep didn't romance Thane, but hosted a very good Memorial for him at her Citadel home. It was touching and worthy of him. I'm so sorry that Thane couldn't be cured and that Kai Leng wasn't shot in the head before the Thane / Kai fight.

I saw the romanced Thane content on youtube and I am so conflicted. It was so good to just hear his voice (Keythe Farley did an amazing job as always) but the messages pretty much broke my heart all over again. ESPECIALLY the 4th, romance specific one. I could not stop crying.

When he said "Siha, I have prepared emails, sent videos, even composed paper letters. I know this will not reach you but it must be said."

The "I know this will not reach you" part hurt because he clearly tried so hard to contact her and never got anything but silence the whole six months they were apart. And when he FINALLY saw her again at the hospital one of the first things out of her mouth was "Oh hey Thane. I was beginning to think I'd never see you again. I'm here to see my friend, Kaidan/Ashley."

It makes the hospital scene even harder to take in some ways because of all that went unsaid between them while Thane was alive. In the DLC, Shepard finally says aloud that she loves Thane and always will (something I really wanted) but it's such a gut punch that she never said the words to him while he lived.

This new content doesn't quite give me closure because I can't help thinking of the things that were never said or done. In ME2 Thane told Shepard he would look forward to the memories but they didn't have many memories together to cherish beyond the Omega 4-Relay. They had such little time together and it's heartbreaking. The forced six months apart still makes me feel so cheated because they missed out on so much and when they finally met things were so cold between them. Shepard only seemed interested in jumping his bones one last time and Thane seemed like he had already given up on his life.

I do feel BioWare made a small effort to give us something with this DLC but it can't quite make up for the messed up content in the base game.

There were parts I appreciated (even though they hurt):
- Shepard and the crew acknowledging Thane's death. (Though I did find it strange that the human squadmembers didn't attend (like Jacob, Miranda or Jack). Grunt didn't go either.
-I was happy that Kolyat got to say something about his father. (more tears)
-I was relieved that Shepard didn't call Thane a criminal if he's romanced like she does in the friend-only version.
- Mention of Irikah
- Shepard imagining Thane at the end, before reboarding the Normandy. I know some people didn't like it but I was glad for it. I don't think he was a ghost - just Shepard's thoughts reflected outward. She missed him and so she imagined him there as a way to comfort herself. Everyone else got to have a small moment with their LI at that point and I'm glad Thane got to have that - even if it's all in Shepard's head. It was just nice to know that she was thinking of him, that she missed him and that the thought of meeting him again is something that gave her comfort. Now, I am crying again.
- Shepard said she loved him
- Thane said he loved her (pretty much everything he said in his videos pulled at my heartstrings)
- Shepard cried (finally, some emotion)
- Kolyat mentioned that he would talk to the Salarian Councillor about getting funding for research to cure Kepral's syndrome. I want to be happy about this because it's great news for the Drell. I just will always feel bitter that Thane can never benefit from it. I can't help wishing things were different. Even though it should be good news hearing that felt like pouring salt in a wound, to be honest.

TLDR; I have very mixed feelings about this DLC. There were parts I appreciated, but mostly, it hurt like hell.

One thing I was dissappointed about was that Thane went and saw a desert without my Shep, but only because she's Earthborn and I headcanon that she's from the middle east. Shep wanted to show him her homeland damn it!

I agree with you - the ME 2 squad was 100 % more interesting than everything I got in ME 3. But that is only my personal opinion.

Shepard wasn't insulting Thane, he (or she) was calling attention to Thane's redemption. EDI hit on the same theme. In both cases they were honoring the deceased by talking about the most noble deed of his life.

the only reason he was seeking redemption tho was for torturing irikah's killers to death just ~because~

otherwise he doesn't view the assassinations as his own actions, but rather the actions of his employers; his body is just a tool for them to use.

so yeah, the DLC only continued to warp his character from what it was in me2 when it would have been REALLY EASY to not do that, which just kinda shows me they only did this begrudgingly

and i don't rly see how that would've been the most noble deed of his life either???  that's what me2's suicide mission was for.  that was a lot more noble, yall, but everyone forgets about me2 so whatever

I like how people ignore epic story telling like Thane's sacrifice and the fact he is dying and can't be cured just because they are butt hurt that you don't get to save him and be with him. His character left a huge impact and without him Shepard would not have gotten full salarian support for the war. His memorial service in the Citadel DLC is an awesome tribute to the character.

Just no, as the previous person said. Seeing a funeral is by no means awesome; it is just more pin and unneeded heartache for those of us who romanced him!:(

Take the bottom dialogue option (think it was called "He fought with us" or something similar) and Shepard will instead talk about Thane being on the Normandy and fighting beside Shepard on the Collector Base.

You can still get Salarian support if you have Kirrahe take Thane's place, can't you?

I don't think Thane jumping on Kai Leng's outstretched sword was all that epic. BioWare made Thane and Shepard (and the squad) look like fools all to prop up Kai Leng. I will forever hate how Shepard just stands there and does absolutely nothing to help during that fight. It was dumb and a poor end to a great character.

The memorial should have been in the game. We shouldn't need to pay for the game to recognize that an important character died. Especially when that death was forced on the player to begin with.

The redemption was the most noble act of his life.

The Suicide Mission was a part of that, but not the whole story. Preventing Kolyat from following in his footsteps and sacrificing his own life to save another were large parts of that redemption arc as well.

I viewed the scene on youtube, but that is how I took it as well. I don't think it was literallyThane's ghost.

After all Shepard never looks at Thane during that conversation and is neither startled or suprise to hear a voice from beyond the grave. I think she was talking to him and imagining what his replies would have been.

I have been reflecting on this, and the people saying that his death makes it more poignant and is better storytelling, and I have to say that I utterly disagree with that.

At my work, one of my co-worker's husband is dying. He has less than a month to live. Another coworker lost her baby two weeks before he was due. It is a very palpable strain on everyone knowing this is happening and that nothing can be done.

I can get "poignant" and bitter in my real life. I don't desire it in my videogames or my books.
