I remember reading about that survey earlier when it was being done. I can understand that a lot of work went into it, and I think that it is great when people devote time and energy to games. However I cannot say that those numbers are representative of all the people who play Mass Effect. Almost 50% female gamers in your survey does not equate to half the gamers who play Mass Effect being female even if that would be all kinds of awesome.
Perhaps your numbers are correct, perhaps they are not. I have no way of verifying it.
We had no control over the players that filled out the survey. We also never suggested that the gender split was representative of the fan base as a whole. It simply isn't possible to account for that in any open online survey or poll, that includes the ones on BSN.
However, neither of these aspects negate the results that are contained within, all of which are
100% accurate.
These responses provide very valuable insights as to what players want and, more importantly, how they romance their LIs. For example, nearly a quarter of the players in the survey were monogamous to a single LI; the average player romanced 3-4 (Xbar=3.25).
There's also no reason to expect that data extrapolated across the entire ME playerbase (if somehow we could do this) regarding the make up of
player gender who actually romanced a specific LI would be any different from what we found. In all likelihood, these numbers should be quite accurate (for example about 47% of male players have romanced Miranda, and about 48% of female players have romanced Thane).
