(Hope you like the Metallica reference)

Now this may seem weird but bare with me.

As the human origin story your home is attacked by Arl Howe, just before Duncan turns up to recruit for Grey Wardens.

As the Magi story Jowan betrays you and you are caught by the Templars (i think sentanced to imprisonment) but Duncan's there to help you out and recruit for the Grey Wardens.

As the Dalish Elf story you discover old ruins and your friend is lost to the taint and you are "cursed" by it. What a suprise Duncaan turns up after recruits and he has the "cure".

As the City Elf story your fiancee is captured, you attack the url, Duncan shows up with a way out recruiting for the grey wardens.

As the Dwarven Noble story you are betrayed by your brother and sentanced to death in the Deep Roads, Duncan helps you by recruiting you into the Grey Wardens.

As the Dwarven Commoner story you have to escape Beraht's dungeon and behold Duncan arrives with an escape plan.

Now my point is, is that wherever Duncan goes pain and misery show up to just so he can get his grey warden recruit. now i know it's a game and it just makes sense, but death just seems to follow where he goes. He obviously doesn't mean it intensionally, but thats just the way it seems.

And if any of you are wandering about the Metallica reference, theres a part in the lyrics where it goes: "Your loss becomes my gain." So the character loses friends or family "loss", and Duncan "gains" his recruit because we have no other choice.

So, what do you think?

Well technically all the origins has nothing to do with each other, Duncan is only showing up one time in the game, which is to save you. If you play another origin, that is an entirely different story if you can follow me.

But back to what I believe. All the origins has no other choice but to go with Duncan, they will die if they refuse (not an option to select in game tho) I think in order for the game to work with the plots and such, they had to do so the player would have no choice but to follow Duncan. If they had a choice the story wouldn't process. If you could choice to stay and either die or fight your way to freedom, there won't be much of a story in the game. That is probably why Duncan is everywhere where someone is about to die, to recruit them so the story can go on.

But he is a strange man, perhaps he can smell death? lol.

Maybe he's like Jessica Fletcher from Murder She Wrote. Wherever that woman went .... people died.

But well ... I don't think that about Duncan really. All of those events take place even if Duncan is NOT there. You can see the results in every playthrough (well you don't see anything about the dalish one). If you go to Orzammar as a non-dwarf you hear about how King Endrin's 2nd son got banished to the Deep Roads for killing Trian. When you go to Jarvia's hideout you come across Leske and the corpse of a dwarf in the jail area (presumable that would have been you had you played the dwarven commoner).

If you play as a non-city elf then you encounter Soris in the Arl of Denerim's dungeon because he attacked Vaughan.

If you play as a non-human noble you get a codex entry saying that the fate of the Cousland family was uncertain and that Rendon Howe was named Teyrn of Highever.

If you play as a non-mage then Jowan still runs away from the Circle.

It's actually rather cool that instead of ignoring the other origins you get to see what happened when you *didn't* choose that one. Except for the dalish because the dalish origin is from a different clan than Zathrian's.

His Beard of Doom tingles whenever the possibility of a no-win death scenario is near, and draws him like a moth to flame. It's one of those special talents reserved only for the most Senior Wardens, who also possess the Beard sense, which is how they find their recruits.

I sense a plot for an expansion .... the darkspawn rise up and steal Duncan's beard. What will the do with it?! And you must get it back before they complete their nefarious scheme!

Every origin is somehow conected to the storyline...
Witch one of them you choose to play isnt changing the other one mutch, exept fot the "Duncan part". I love the way the game works in that aspect.

For example if your not playing the noble dwarf origin, Bhelen still is a liar, tyrant etc and still kills his older brothers to cliam the throne for himself...

(like Elessara wrote... didnt see that untill after)
