Derp... Sorry Slim, I sat down for a few, opened my eyes, and I had fallen asleep for 5 hours. I hope I can catch up with you sometime soon, it's been a while

Do we get to keep our same team since we're defending champs?

Not sure at the moment. We need to see how many players we get first. I'm also trying to recruit the hackers (PC) and communists (ps3). So we will see.

I would like to have atleast 1 all trainee team from players who only started doing serious runs once this thread was started.

For anyone interested in seeing how load times effect the end time I put together a compilation of load times for 3 platforms.

3 platform loading test

According to the video assuming framerate is accurate:
PC(bottom left) starts at load and has 7 seconds count on against its timer.
Xbox(top left) starts at 2 and has 19 seconds count against the timer.
PS3(top right) starts at 7 and has 28 seconds count against the timer.

I can't say for sure if anything happened to the frame rates when uploaded to youtube before I was able to get them. Also load times seem to vary more for a full team. Everything here is approximate but still useful.

My best guess to what is happening without seeing the source code is that there is likely a list of things that get called to load and when those load it moves on to the next piece. I'm guessing the match timer starts after certain files are loaded. The longer the initial file load the longer the delay after going to loading screen the timer starts. No idea why Bioware didn't put startMatchTimer() or whatever they call their function when either players first load into the map(a countdown timer starts for wave 1) or when the wave 1 pops up. Too late now.

TL;DR If you haven't done so yet install the game to your hard drive otherwise xbox load times are more like ps3.

its hard to guage it (and correct me if i'm wrong) but wouldn't PC load times vary based on the processing power of the hosts PC?

Without seeing source code it would be impossible to know exactly what factors play into it. Xbox processor is capable of running up to six threads at once, pc hardware varies. Who knows if any of the loading code is set up to take advantage of multiple cores or if it all runs on a single thread. Hard drives and memory are likely bigger factors. I believe the xbox hard drive speed is 5400 RPM, an average laptop drive. On a pc you could find 7200RPM, 10000RPM, or a solid state drive which would reduce load times further.

Edit: I remember optimizing loading of applications on an iPhone 3g and a 3gs a few years back and seeing big difference even though they use similar storage. In general better hardware will load better. I am also unsure how network connections with a full team factor into the equation.

interesting. i do know that SSD hard drives really speed up perfomrance since its basically access as flash memory. I dind't really think that it would factor into load times but i can see how it would now that i think of it.

That's just.... crazy. We'll have to ask the data miners if they can find the timer markers in the PC version. Those tests seem like proof that the timer is unbalanced across platforms, yet things look a little different when you look at a full match.

At work I am working on a project that involves loading large data set from a database. We multithread the loading and update different pieces of the UI as data becomes available. I'm guessing there is a file or number of files that need to load and when they finish starting the match timer is one of the next things that happen. The pc might not start right at load but load the prerequisite content fast enough that it seems to start then. My thought is the faster you load content the sooner in the loading screen the timer starts. No way to know without looking at source code. It is probably hard coded into the game and not something that can be modified with the coalesced file.
