I guess I'm just not active enough in these forums, but I didn't know Thane's death was unpopular. Anyway:

- I think Thane should die. There's no reason for him to survive, and his death is beautiful.
- I dislike MEHEM. I much prefer Koobismo's Marauder Shields web comics.
- If I had to choose a EC ending, I'd choose synthesis every time.
- Even though I dislike the ending, I think ME3 was immensely more fun and better made than the previous two games.
- I think Miranda is boring, though this is mostly due to her Oriana story arc.
- I like Jacob and James.
- I like both Ashley and Kaidan and I have a hard time deciding between the two.

I liked planet scanning in ME2, I found it relaxing. I also liked finding War Assets in ME3 and then pootling (fairly quickly) away from the little Reapers. It was cute. Probably not what Bioware intended, but still ...

I love this thread! It's like Mass Effect Anonymous!

I actually think that the core of ME's gameplay, making choices, hurts the game sometimes. As I was being schooled in another thread, I realized that all the choices and Bioware's consequent hesitation to canonize any of them, cost us big-time when it came to Priority: Earth 2's "epic" armageddon finale. So we had to settle for a lot of standing around and big speeches, instead of big cut scene and war asset catharsis.

You make a very good point, though I think that the choice element was what made the game so emotionally investing for many players, so the problem you describe was unavoidable imo.

I imagine ME4 will still be heavily choice-based.

I like the idea behind the Catalyst, I just don't think having it appear as some random child you watched get splattered was very effective. Now if it's appearance changed between friends, dead friends, LI and maybe the child in each scene like the Leviathan dialogue that would be better, then showing its true form after the choice.

HOW VERY DARE YOU?!

Also, I felt sad the first time I saw the kid die, and didn't really think he was any weirder than most kids in video games.  Edit: or indeed in real life. Kids can be really weird.

Edit 2: I don't hate Diana Allers. I don't like her dress much, though.

That's the very identity of ME, so you're definitely correct about ME4 continuing with choices.  No complaints about that at all.

However, I guess I never thought about it until this thread and another that I like choices, but now I realize that there are some definite and costly limitations to them.  Trying to be a friend of everyone and ending up a friend of no one, kind of a thing.  Satisfying some of the customers over here, while denying a bunch of customers over there would be the ruthless calculus of canonization.  It all makes me wonder, too, if the only ones Bioware listens to are the ones who create the most massive threads, while the one-offs only get listened to by BSNers and mods.  Tyranny of the majority?  Pardon the fragments, but random thoughts are running through my mind on this issue of choice, ours and Bioware's.

- I think ME1 is the worst game of the series (and my least favorite BW game overall) and I hate the cheesy ending scene with Shepard jumping up from the rubble.

- Both ME2 and ME3 are a billion times better than ME1 for me.

- I think ME3 is the best game of the series (though ME2 is almost as good for me).

- I like the ME3 ending a lot.

- I like TIM as a character.

- I think adding multiplayer to the ME series is the best decision they ever made.

- I think EDI rocks in ME3.

I can come up with more but too lazy right now.

P.S.: Gah, I forgot... I LOVE DIANA ALLERS <3

You're mean, very, very mean.

Punching the reporter is stupid
I like Kaidan and James.
I've never romanced Garrus, I don't know, it feels forced.
The VS is right to be suspicious of Shepard, and they're actually right in the end, so I don't know why so many people are butthurt about their attitude and act like they're ****ty people because of it.
I choose destroy all the time since I don't mind losing the geth or EDI
I hate what they did to EDI in ME3.
Despite all its flaws, ME2 is still my favorite game in the series.
Jennifer Hale's VA is a lot better than Mark Meer's, people saying otherwise are usually very bitter about Femshep existing in the first place.

I dont think Garrus is great. He just was there. I've grown to like him after all the 3 games he was in, but nothing more.

I like Miranda not just for her butt, but for her personality and her character development.

I've killed Wrex in Virmire not because I couldnt save him, but because I wanted, because I've seen it as a fitting end for him.

I like Kaidan too, he is my favorite after Liara and Miranda. :)

I have forgiven Bioware for the ending after the EC.

-I have the option to make peace between the Quarians and Geth every time, I kill the Geth anyway. Untrustworthy.

-I've never saved the Rachni Queen in ME3 for the same reason.

-I like Jacob. He's not interesting, he just feels more real than other characters. (Oddly enough, given all of the paragon idealist playthroughs I see, I still have trouble understanding why people DISlike him.)

-I'd romance Khalisah Bint Sinan al-Jilani, Westerlund News if I could.

-I have so much fun with the combat in ME3, that the Cerberus complaints are irrelevant to me, and I hardly even noticed the autodialogue the first time around.

-The only issue I have with the endings is the lack of war asset involvement, I think the Catalyst's logic makes sense.

- Mass Effect 1 is the best in the series
- Mass Effect 2 and 3 are great Third-Person Shooters but terrible RPGs
- I like Kaiden, Jacob, and James
- I hate the amount of Mass Effect 1 characters that are forced into your squad in Mass Effect 3 as opposed to any of the others.
- Mass Effect 3's multiplayer is superior to it's single player.

I liked the Mako. It might have handled like a turd on a skate, but the exploration in ME1 was great fun.

I also think Kaidan has some of the strongest moral fibre of all the ME squadmates.

I loved ME1, was more akin to a true space opera RPG. I loved the planetary exploration, the inventory management, the MAKO (yes, I loved and had a freaking blast in that beast!), the weapon and armor customization and addons, ect.

ME2: was a huge dumbing down of the game systems and turned Shepard into a galactic babysitter and psychologist. The only redeeming thing BioWare did for ME2 was LotSB. OH, and I forgot to mention how retarded the whole killing and resurrecting of Shepard was.

ME3: while having some really great story and truly tear jerking moments, it still lacks any exploration that should be present in a large RPG game. I won't go into the clusterfrack that is the ending debacle, that horse is long dead and pounded firmly into the soil of a neighboring dimension. Needless to say, the last 10 minutes of ME3 personally killed the entire series for me.

Sorry, but this does not belong here.  You couldn't have better summed up the majority of the BSN if you had tried.

Or, maybe you did.

OP, I'm glad you created this thread.  I agree with every point you made aprt from Jacob's demeanour being anything other than a reflection of his professionalism, not his skin colour.

-ME1 < ME2 < ME3
-Becoming more like a shooter was better for the series
-I like the original endings
-I like synthesis
-James and EDI are cool, interesting squadmates
-Priority:Earth is a good mission with excellent atmosphere
-The Catalyst is not insane/crazy/evil, just badly programmed
-The Geth changing their attitude towards advancement between games makes sense and is a good thing
-A Mass Effect FPS would be awesome
-Vigil was a deus ex machina, the Catalyst wasn't
-Kai Leng was an acceptable villiain
-ME3's autodialogue wasn't a big deal
-Omega was a good DLC, and worth the money
-Diana Allers is a perfectly fine character
-ME3's ending is one of the better ones in this generation

-The destruction of the Geth in Destroy is poetic

-Although Captain Picard would never make a decision of life and death based on arithmetic, as in "Justice," and Kirk might Refuse on behalf of a single individual, as in "The Empath" when facing the Vians, Garrus's ruthless calculus of war still makes me Destroy and sacrifice one EDI to save trillions of organics.

-I thought Vega was hilarious

-Kaiden and Cortez hitting on my straight Shepard didn't phase me

-The only time I shed a tear was the EC slide showing Zaeed.  To see such a miserable man finally get some happiness really hit home with me, even though others thought that the slide was funny.

-I enjoyed the multiplayer experience and didn't mind that it was required to get 100% of my assets to bear on the war.  The only thing I did mind is the multiplayer snobs who would boot out noobs on bronze.  For that reason, I'll never play multiplayer again.

-I'm a proud (lucky) PS3 player of the ME Trilogy
