OK, so, mechanically, enchanting in DA:O basically consists of putting one to three of runes of 9 different types into a weapon.

According to the tranquil in ostagar and other game lore, enchanting is the process of giving items magical properties by using lyrium - to quote "...almost any spell effect can be made permanant".  And we see magical items with a whole range of powers.

Are we going to see a fully realised enchanting system in DA:O and its DLC/Expansions?  Where we can acquire lyrium, pay gold, and get magic of our choice added to all suitable items?  For example, all those iron, silver and gold rings lying around?

And not just the obvious +this and -that, but interesting solutions, like an arcane warrior only sword that lets you channel cone of cold, so you don't have to sheath to cast it.  Perhaps even use an enchanting interface to turn an item into a gift, so you could enchant the "Emerald Ring" I think it is, you find, and gift it to your loved one, it will then become "Leliana Only" for example, and give her +2 Cunning, and a bonus effect to captivating song as the glinting gem dazzles her audience.  Or whichever other bonuses you enchant it with.

I know some effects will not be easy/possible to include within the game engine/animations, but this disparity between what enchanting "should" be, and what it is, is something I would like to see officially resolved, rather than the variety of Mods people have come up with to add their own unique items.  Nothng against the mods, just a case of where I feel the line should be drawn in this case.

I'm all for it, as long as Sandal's the one doing my enchanting.

Erm...that sounded a little wrong. Let me re-phrase that. Sandal is the only man who gets to touch my sword!

...GOD DAMMIT!
