There are probably a few topics like this already, but I could not find them.
I would just like to know if I will be able to play ME3, say 3-5 years from now when the servers are down?
Of course I could play it without DLC, but i like my game complete.
It bugs me a little Posted Image

My guess is that at the earliest they will shut them down when ME4 lands.

I think is not a problem. Probably they will remove DLC verfication at that time. Better to burn your DLCs into a DVD though.

Huh? The DLCs are registered to your EA-Account.

Unless corporations control the entire world now, they shouldn't even be allowed to do anything that prevents us from playing our legitimately bought games. If they did it'd end up in court.

I wouldn't worry about it. But at the same time I refrain from buying games that require an additional service to run as much as possible, unless they're games I'm really looking forward to.

It is possible to play single player with all DLCs without an Internet connection (at least on Xbox; have not purchased any single-player DLC for PC), so you should be able to play ME3 single player in the future even when the servers are shut down. It will be unlikely that you can play multiplayer in the future, but that remains to be seen.

You can play all DLC without an internet connection right now. If you are on PC Origin, it literally just a simple "set to offline mode" that you can click.

Honestly, the only thing you should worry about as far as "servers" goes deals with the MP.

Four years for MGS4. And oh, how I lament its passing. To this day MGO remains the only shooter multiplayer game I haven't gotten tired of within a couple of weeks, ME3 mostly included. :/

Can't wait for Ground Zeroes and/or MGS5 to bring it back.

If it is ever removed from the EA servers, meaning, you can't download it anymore in case you had to uninstall, then you're lost.

DLC works fine without internet connection, the only thing you actually have to worry about is MP.

Nothing in the terms of the license you purchased obliges Bioware or EA to keep servers online indefinitely.

Of course, it is in there interest to do so because if you lose access to DLC for games you buy from them, you become less likely to buy games form them in the future, and that's bad for business.

In the event that support for Mass Effect 3 ends, verification will probably be removed.

EA is known to shut down their multiplayer servers a few years after launch. DLC shouldn't be a problem since the game doesn't attempt authentication if you're in offline mode (PC) and have authenticated at least once.

I would assume in many countries, EA would be legally obliged to ensure paying customers could have a copy of their game forever offline.

We are yet to see this tested legally, but when it is I hope that it will go the customers way.

This is why DRM doesn't work, because Pirates don't have to worry about this.

nope, you can't.
I try that ever since I got the DLCs

unless perhaps you have XBOX DLC I don't know
but pc DLC requires a constant internet conection for verification otherwise I always get the warning DLC could not be verified and I have to connect again. This sucks. Steam is better in that regard. They verify once and job done, no more hassle. I hope ORIGIN can fix this, because it's just annoying for us who buy the games unlike pirates their stuff always seems to work without hassle but we get punished. Like it or not, but that's what it is.

As far as I know, distribution and authentication are handled through the Origin servers.

EA would have to shut down Origin for you to lose the ability to download and authenticate your DLC.

You can already play ME3 offline, but it requires some sort of ritual sacrifice or other dark magic for it to work correctly.

Thanks, I didn't know that.
Hopefully, we won't need any dark magic any time soon Posted Image

I been telling you all and them, They should add a Offline mode with A.I!!! It will happen eventually, all your hours and effort lost.

and I can play all my DLC offline. I don't know where you guys are saying you need online to play singleplayer when that is false.

I don't say I don't believe you.
I believe you.
But it's not working for me.
Every time I go offline mode with Origin, I need to get online again to get the DLCs re-verified.
Over and over and over again.
Yes, it does suck.
To EA it's not enough that they know my credit card, that I paid for the game and the DLCs.
They don't believe me I am who I am. They need to control freak every time, because I could be someone else playing Mass effect with my DLCs.

Well, I'm not that kinda guy pirating. But I get tired of this verification crap.
IT SUCKS.

edit:
I updated Origin an hour ago. Still the same.

Yeah, it's true for PC owners. Play in offline mode and lose access to all of your DLC, along with any of your saved games created with DLC.

If the ME3 servers get shutdown, I hope they release an authentication patch. But I seriously doubt it since it wasn't done for ME2 because of the collection release. So just try to download the installation files to every DLC you purchase as a pre-caution.
