Rape is a very serious topic and should be approached with caution. Remember that comment by the Lara Croft team about the main hero being raped? You can't just say "then she/he gets raped" and expect people to follow along without being perplexed (for the lack of a better word).

Which was a complete overreaction on everyone's part.

Rape is not worse than murder. Yet is so often treated as the worst possible thing and even the discussion is frowned upon.


As for the OP: Putting an extensive rape story into a game that has only mildly covered it before just because.. why? It played a part in the Elf origins to give the Elf Origin a villain, and also to partly (and violently) show the social differences between Humans and Elves. Why would it be in future games? Killing is fine because you and your teammates are fighting wars, killing Darkspawn etc - not going around raping people or being raped.

Rape is not restricted to male aggressors. Women doing the raping can and does happen.

It's not a matter of like (if you allow it to happen, it's no longer considered rape). It's a matter of approaching a subject that is universally accepted to being wrong and unethical and you wanting to perform so odd fantasy. You might as well be saying; "I want to rape people because screaming and crying is music to my ears."

I think some people may be over-reacting.

It was just a suggestion. For a fictional character. In a fictional world. It is a 18's game, and I have no qualm with it as long as we don't have to see it. That would be taking it too far. Hinting, preventing or having it happening off screen would provide an emotional bond and sympathy with your character.

But no if in anyway we'd see it.

ETA: Also, it's not like rape isn't already a part of DA, it's just hinted at, and shown to happen to other characters.

I actually agree that we shouldn't see anything. It could be presented in fade to black format.

Sorry, no, bolded is false.  Lack of consent is all that's required for it to be rape.  "Not fighting hard enough" doesn't equal consent.
