Just got the N7 Paladin (class)...not what I was expecting...

Was thinking yaknow, playable cerberus guardian.
But instead, I can't move or shoot with the shield out, and the shield isn't big enough to protect squadmates....so...what was the point of this class again?
I'm gonna specialize in using the shield (as a SHIELD, not just melee) to see if there's anything I can specialize in with it...but no ideas at the moment. I can be portable cover for squadmates, but they shuffle back and forth so much that doesn't really matter anyway. I can be a decent distraction by backing into a corner, drawing the shield, and just taking aggro, I guess.
Thoughts?

The class specialises in Snap Freeze. The shield is no where near the main attraction.
Fixed for accuracy.

You chain together Power Combos. Very simple.
If you know how to Double Melee shield cancel/Sprinting Heavy Melee chain, you can also make him into a very powerful melee build.
Even without the melee build, having a Fire Shield is great for Priming FEs, since you can instantly detonate them instead of having to wait for a cooldown to finish with Incinerate.

But, the Paladin is a great character once you get over the shield disappointment, Snap Freeze to the max cryo explode everything.

(It is helpful from time to time during objective mission in place like Rio and Giant, but often trying to shield enemy fire will kill you)
It is excellence offense tool though. Unlike other regular melees which only stagger enemy for short time, sheild bashing completely disable unshilded/unarmored enemies for good few seconds.

Ok so what I do with the paladin is use him as a geth destroyer NOT specialize in using your shield as a shield. If you spec out of incinerate (this will make him unable to tech combo effectively agianst organics) you can hit the geth and refill you shields every time. Couple this with the bugged snap freeze (it always has +100% tech combo damage don't pick that evo) and you have a geth killing beast that can use fire shield to set up CC explosions and and every power he has sets up and detonates tech combos.
If you put an ally that has chain overload next to him he will detonate three times every overload for you:wub:

The shield was definitally a huge missed opportunity, it's sadly basically just a melee tool with a bit of highly situational extra protection use.

Would it even be possible for them to update it so you can move with the shield?

The Paladin is basically a tech version of the Fury: combos everywhere.

The shield can take an incredible amount of punishment, but not only will teammates not use you as cover, they will usually stand IN FRONT of you. A team with communication will get very far with a Paladin on hand, but with PUGs, don't really bother with the shield because you are the only one that is even going to notice it's there.

Forget the shield, focus on Snap Freeze. If you max that thing out for tech combos and play with someone who has Chain Overload, you can clear an entire wave with cryo explosions.
Last match of the day today for me was using the Shadow with some people from the PS3 Alliance Hazard Force. We had a shadow a volus a valkyrie and a paladin on glacier vs geth. Electric slash was detonating all the explosions, volus was shield boosting, paladin priming and valk just minding her own businiss on the other side of the map. It was a very fast gold run and lots of fun.

I like slash when using the paladin but, last night, i played glacier and this dude had a salarian trip mine and it detonated all enemies. The noise was crazyyyyyyyyy! I've never ever witness so many explosions at the same time. The other 2 kids had overload that hits multiple enemies. Was a really fun puggy bear match

Phantoms and Dragoons stagger when you block their melee. (if you take the melee path and use juggernaut shield) Also, the Paladin takes no damage when you have the shield deployed in the acid rain on hazard glacier.
The shield is awesome, but going out of your way to use it is asking to get killed. Use it against things that otherwise could not be dodged like Atlas/Praetorian rockets, Praetorian laz0rs, Rocket Trooper spam, ect..

WRONG the Salarians have a proxy mine and it only can detonate one at a time. It was the chain overload that was doing it not the mine...Repeat only one explosion because only one hit from the mine, Multiple explosions because multiple hits from overload.

The issue that the Omni-shield runs into is the same that the Biotic Sphere ran into, that it is a supportive tool that falls flat because teammates don't utilize it.

Yes, the Paladin can absorb a few thousand damage with his shield deployed. But all the regular cover in the game can soak up infinite damage and doesn't require a teammate to stop and do nothing.
Outside of a few very unusual circumstances or to deflect damage in an emergency, deploying the shield is a waste of time that could have been better spent shooting or casting powers.

There is no way in hell the overload chain causes such an explosion at the exact same time. Overload hits a enemy and then moves on to the next. It doesn't hit all its enemies at the same time. This explosion was the sound of at least 5 cryo explosions exploding at the exact same time. I've never heard a noise like it.
