I'm just curious how to keep him as a Warden.

Duel Loghain yourself and execute him. The choose Anora as sole ruler. If you let Loghain live, Alistair will not remain a Warden (he will leave or be executed). As long as you kill Loghain and choose Anora, it doesn't matter whether you do the DR or not, Alistair will remain a Warden. Don't let Alistair duel Loghain, though.
Why can't Alister duel Loghain?
What happens if he kills loghain that prevents him from staying with the Wardens?

Hardened Alistair automatically kills Loghain and names himself king. (Because once Loghain is dead, the game won't let you put Anora on the throne, since doing so opens the option to exile or execute Alistair, leaving you with no guaranteed-male Grey Warden for the DR since Loghain is dead, too.)
Also, there is one situation where not doing the DR matters to get the Warden Alistair ending. romanced!Alistair should be left at the gates if you didn't take the DR and you want him to survive, or he'll feed himself to the Archdemon to spare his lover.

Not sure, perhaps Anora will insist on executing Alistair?
Oh, right.

^ What she said. Also, silly me for assuming your warden was male and forgetting to mention the whole "I won't let you die" thing. I think I blocked it out because it was too traumatic.

Wait, wait, wait...
So you're saying that even though I set up Anora and Alistair...they won't marry if we kill Loghain?

They won't marry if Alistair kills Loghain. (Or rather, Anora won't marry the man who wielded the sword that killed her father.) You can kill Loghain, and Anora will be happy to marry Alistair. (Well, not exactly "happy". But she'll do it.)

Nice...thanks for the quick info.
What about the relationship between Anora and the Warden after the Warden kills Loghain? Does she hold any ill-will towards you for doing that?

She'll break that off too.
Anora will never marry the person who killed her father, be that the warden or Alistair.
Though she doesn't seem to mind who duels him, and she won't hold it against you if Alistair kills Loghain on your orders. As a game mechanic, all she cares about is who actually delivers the execution blow.
