I hope the end result looks a little less renaissance-y

So I'm the only one thinking, "I wonder where I could get a dress like that Tevinter woman's"? Not the hat and gloves, just the dress...and the boots.

For some reason, I've always considered Orlais to be the home of the bustle in Thedas. I sincerely hope we see at least one OTT noblewoman rocking one.

I'm male, so I'm not thinking exactly that. On the other hand, I really hope there's a female LI who dresses like that.

Bioware is trying to re-invent DA's art style again? Oh boy. I wonder how many features Qunari will have after this one. Maybe dwarves will have horns now, too!

*sigh*

Qunari always had horns.

Sten didn't.

He was intended to, but the team couldn't figure out the model in time, so they removed the horns and invented lore explaining why he and the other qunari in Ferelden didn't have them. But qunari in general were always meant to have horns.

The Tevinter ones look horrible. Really horrible. Might as well have a big sign above pointing at them and saying EVUL PERSUN ERE. I could deal with the other two if the Orlesian women's dress gets less fabulous and even though Fereldan doesn't look altogether that Ferelden-ish but eh.

I don't think we'll be seeing this art style in the actual games. Right now I think it's just art for World of Thedas, I think the concept art for DA3 will be different. I will say however that I expected Ferelden to have more fur and leather on their clothes. When I think I Ferelden I think of Game of Thrones and the way they dress up.

I don't believe those two ideas to be closely related enough to go in the same paragraph without even a conjunction.

Edit: In english: you say that like it's a bad thing.

Maybe its just my personal preference, but I like designs that are medieval or inspired by the medieval period.

I don't understand this. Would you really feel better if they dressed in yellow instead? I often see people complaining about it being 'cliche' to dress evil people in black. Who really cares? It helps inspire a sense of dread or foreboding in people that may otherwise find that difficult to discern. It's ok to conform to norms once in a while...

The problem is that it paints Tevinters as moustache-twirling, cliched villains.

Hm, I'm not that impressed. Sure, nice designs, but not really for what it's supposed to represent. I think the clothes of the male Tevinter are cool, but that they should remove the pointy hat thing. It would look better then, imo. The woman's dress is just way too over the top, with the thing on her head and the shape of the gown. Looks more like something for an extravagant Orlesian ball. Perhaps Tevinters have crazy balls as well, but since I assume the concept art is supposed to represent the overall fashion of the different countries, I think it's too much.

The Fereldan clothing somehow reminds me of the dwarven fashion we've seen so far. Only uglier. It's not right, somehow. It looks weird.

I'm more or less neutral about the Orlesian ones. The guy looks good. The woman... mehh. Neutral. The Tevinter dress in a different color seems more suited for the Orlesian style.

Personally I love the style of our concept art, and that Tevinter female dress, wow, I hadn't seen that before (and I spend a lot of time in the art review folder). If something like that ever ended up in game I'd love to see someone try and cosplay it!

I got the impression that the Tevinters ARE moustache-twirling clichéd villains. If only they had the sense of style of, say, Lord Edmund Blackadder....

Ah well, the Goth dude (& dudette) will have to do, I guess :(.

I love the Tevinter style the most to be quite honest. Probably because I wear a lot of black/dark clothes heh. I think it suits them. I can't imagine them wearing something less-dark. I just hope we don't get silly Mage hats again.

We're talking about the same heretical, slave-owning empire ruled by blood mages that kill people in their sleep, right?

Hopefully for Nevarra Han Shot First.

The Orlesian nobles suit what we know of them. I liked Anora's dress in DAO it was practical but the material was expensive looking so it fit with Ferelden culture but set her apart as nobility. Male clothing was downright silly but the leather and fur combos Alistair wore in the comics looked good. The Ferelden look is already established I would have preferred tweaking to a complete overhaul.

A Restoration influence would be good for Tevinter, as opulent and flamboyant as Orlais with a risque edge.

I don't know, I can see them in lots of rich colours like crimson, gold, violet, navy and dark green. Made out of silk and satin and whatever, in flamboyant styles. The Magisters, anyway. Tevinter comes off a lot like Orlais to me, only with more blood magic. The slaves, peasants and whoever else I picture in more drab and more generic outfits.

I really like the Orlesian man's outfit here, but his and the woman's seem pretty tame for what we've heard about Orlais. It's just a puffy dress and a sombrero. I hope there are some outlandish designs in the actual game.

As for the Fereldan outfits, they seem fine to me, though the tabard seems longer than would be practical. I also think the man looks like he has some kind of steampunk headgear on, I can't see it well enough.

Every time a glimmer of hope for Dragon Age 3  finds its way into my heart, a developer comes and reminds me that nothing has changed.

It seems to me that these are costumes of the nobility. I wouldn't expect your standard Tevinter citizen to go around wearing such extravagant outfits, but I would expect a high-ranking magister to do so.

Since DA:I is centred on Orlais, and an organisation sanctioned by royalty, maybe these are costumes that we'll see at a multinational gathering of the elite?
