Honestly, I'd rather see Protheans than Collectors as playable characters in MP.

Being a fanatical servant of a dying corpse in a grimdark universe doesn't seem like the most entertaining existence.

I'd have a clearly defined purpose, live for centuries, have some of the most devastating weapons imaginable, and

The Eldar, Orks, Necrons, and Tyranids are not interested in coexistence with humanity and by the Emperor's own decree anything that opposes humanity's survival is an enemy and must be destroyed.  It's an eternal war for the very survival of man and the Astartes have always been the sharpest tip of the spear.  The Tau have, on occassion been known to see logic and stay out of humanity's way or even help mankind to fight a common foe but they have their moments of aggression.

1.) Collectors are elite Reaper forces. furthermore, they are adaptable, intelligent, and most importantly: humanoid.

2.) Collectors are the closest thing we can get to Protheans without controversy in the lore. Collector Thralls are solidified by the Leviathan dlc.

I lost respect for the Ultrasmurfs since they were made 2nd to the Emperor by that blight Matt Ward who obviously has a raging boner for them and made every other chapter seem sub-par in terms of achievements.

DO NOT SPEAK THAT THING'S NAME!

The Ultramarines were far better originally and that is still how I like them, before the taint or poor fanfic quality writing fell upon them.  It was actually a novel originally that molded my interest in the warriors of Ultramar, the novel called "The Fall of Damnos" which dealt with Captain Cato Sicarius and the Ultramarines Second Company defending a world from the awakening Necrons beneath the surface.  It just screamed of old school Ultras; they were tough but not invincible, they could bleed, they could lose, and they could die.  Cato himself even suffered serious injuries. 
The book so clearly showcased the greatest qualities of the Ultramarines that that one hideous and foul writer never could nor will understand; the unshakeable courage and valor demonstrated by those great champions even against unwinnable odds.  They embodied their battle cry of "courage and honor".

Those are the Ultramarines that I choose to play as.  And on other Chapters, they are all Space Marines, they are all the greatest champions of Man.  Whatever that little fool says cannot change that.

40K Fluff: It doesn't help that He-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named also screwed over the Grey Knights (killing SoB and coating themselves in their blood to become immune to daemonic taint. Weren't they already immune?)
