She also says that beauty and love are fleeting and meaningless, survival and power are the only things that really matter.

Just because beauty is fleeting, does not mean she does not care for it. Morrigans codex states:

Morrigan's critical eye is not reserved solely for others. Knowing or not, she has a simple fondness for jewelry and is very particular about
her appearance.

So she will put aside those feelings of vanity and even love to get what she wants ;)

Speculation. Visit the link I posted above.

I dont need to visit your link to know what happened in my game....
So, here we go. As i dont like to be called a speculator i will explain what i said. And it is fact, not speculation.  Morrigan is indeed a bit vain and does have an affinity with beauty and jewelry etc. But still, and this is proven in the game itself, she will put those feelings aside and leave you right before or after the main battle, depending on your choice. Now what do you make of that ?  I never said she didnt care about beauty, i just said she thinks its vastly inferior to power and survival ;) And incase you make the "wrong" decision she will leave you immediatly, dropping you like a ton of bricks to further her own plan. Again, not speculation, this is fact, taken from the game itself. The only thing that remains unsure is that we just dont exactly know what morrigan's plan is....yet.

But the Old God's supposed power is in its soul, I doubt even the most ancient abomination could somehow overpower the soul of a God.

Ive wondered that myself. All she says about the child when asked is that the child becomes something else, not a darkspawn. All we know about it is that the soul of an old god is what she was after from the getgo, that was THE plan Flemeth came up with.
In my opinion Flemeth had this entire plan cooked up even before rescuing the wardens from the tower of Ishal. I dont know if she foresaw that Morrigan would make her own plans, or if Flemeth will ever return. Guess well just have to wait and find out what happens next ^^

The old god that got transformed into the Archdemon was known as Urthemiel, Dragon of Beauty. There once were  7 dragons known as the Old Gods, 5 of those have been killed, the last 1 (this is the 1 you kill while playing Origins)  being Urthemiel. Im wondering how and if well be able to see how this works out in a future game. Seems to me that even if Morrigan would fail to get the soul of this old god she still has 2 more chances of doing so, because there are still 2 more old gods somewhere.  I expect the story to continue around those facts.

It's something david gaider wrote himself, because of the uncertainty around morrigan. I'll just tell you it changed my opinion of her.

She leaves, yes. That is not the part I referred to as speculation. It's the "why". If you're in love/best friends she'll say she cant stand the thought of watching you kill yourself, expecting you will do the killing (and dying). It is up to you to belive that or to take it as a pretext. There's just strong evidence for the former. And if you say that "survival and power are the only things that really matter" than the conclusion is that beauty and love dont. If you didnt mean to say that, well, "missunderstanding solved" ;)

I think it was before the warden and morrigan were even born.

If she had failed, you'd be dead. So she definately has the soul. "at least for a time".

There definitely is something very odd about Morrigan, but it's intriguing. Something I wonder about is if Flemeth and Morrigan planned this both out-- Morrigan hints that Flemeth's spirit can't be killed and that she needs a host. Flemeth is considered an abomination, but her "form" is actually a High Dragon... Morrigan also mentions that if the host is more powerful, Flemeth has an easier time of settling in.. I wonder if Flemeth will take control of Morrigan's "child." Then again, Morrigan may use her child, wielding the power of an Old God, to defend from Flemeth in the future. However, Flemeth did seem to realize when you confronted her that her daughter would betray her and thus she couldn't have trusted Morrigan. Another note I want to bring up is why Morrigan, on poster etc. for Origins is shown with darkspawn behind her. Does this mean she actually has ties to them?
