By now it is common knowledge that many fans were displeased with the endings for ME3. I myself enjoyed the ending to what I consider to be the greatest trilogy of games I have ever played. With that being said, while not necessarily sharing the views of some of these people, I can understand where they are coming from.

The purpose of this topic is to gain insight into how people envisioned their Shepard's fate. I see many posters wishing for a happy ending for Shepard's story arc and seeing him/her survive and reunite with their squad. So my question to everyone is, regardless of your opinions on the ending, focusing solely on Shepard's fate, were you pleased with the fact that your Shepard either lived (open to interpretation in destroy) or died.

I personally was happy that the generic 'happy ever after' wasn't available for me. Although the option would have been nice, I have always seen ME3 and ending the conflict with the reapers as a finality for my Shepard and was pleased that he was able to die a hero in the closing moments of the trilogy.

How do you all feel about Shepard's fate?

While I would have liked a happy ending, I'm happy enough with the EC.

I expected multiple fates based on the choices I had made throughout the series. Happy ever after, though not something that overly interests me, should be a possibility. I only expected this because I was told to for years.

I'm pretty happy with how my Renegade, Talimancing, Control-choosing Shepard ended up - ascended to godhood to ensure no-one f*cks with his galaxy, or more importantly his adorable suit-rat.

I'd like to know more about what happens to my Paragon, Liaramancing Shepard who ended the Reapers in their entirety, but hey, what can I do?

I didn't like the lack of a happy ending as I'd enjoyed the triumph of the previous games endings, but I think I've moved on from that disappointment.

My out & out paragon soldier destroyed his nemesis but I would have liked to have seen him live with the consequences of his destruction (and with Ash if I'm honest). Death (or breath) just wasn't as detailed a conclusion as I'd hoped for such a complex and emotional game

Hate it. I prefer disney movies and I am not afraid to admit it either. I never watch movies that end with the hero dying more then once, and I only watch them if I don't know the hero is going to die at the end in the first place. I am not a fan of sad endings. It's not for everyone. More then that though there are a lot of plot holes left in Mass Effect 3, things that really just do not make sense at all and Priority Earth was a non-event imo. The other missions on the other planets where far better then Earth yet Earth's mission is supposed to be the last one of the entire trilogy? Very disappointing.

While the ending(s) would have been fine for a book or movie, not having a "happy" ending option for a game that always was hyped as "choice" sucked. They can stick to their "artistic integrity" all they want but having a happy ending option to go with the options already there would have made me excited about the next game. As of now, I am just "Ho, hum" about it.

I appreciated the EC but I only played it once to see what it was. I never play the ending anymore since downers aren't my thing.

If it's about the dying part then im ok with that.

The over all conclution of the story starting at Priority earth.... Nah, that's pretty bad for mass effect and especialy a mass effect ending made by bioware. I did expect something better, some thing more varied interactive and entertaining.. drama...
The EC helped a little bit but still.

This for me is the greatest tragedy of the ending(s), ME up to the end was just so replayable, but I'm not sure I'll ever go back once I've finished Citadel...

It should be an option as the story was marketed to us as OUR story. Also, project lead says Shepard lives in high EMS destroy and the rest is up to us, I am good with that and killing the starbrat and rejecting Mac and Casey's pet ending

I used to be furious and angry with everything associated to the ending, but now I'm just weary, disappointed and more then a little disgusted with the whole thing. I'm just beyond caring now.

But yeah, Shepard's fate. One of the major perks of choosing the Destroy ending over Control and the derpy nonsense that is Synthesis was Shepard surviving. In all honesty, I didn't care at all about the fate of the Reapers. I just wanted the character that I had grown throughout three games to survive and live the rest of his days in peace. Yet BioWare refuse to expand upon the one thing that sets Destroy apart from the others, and even claim that it could be "Shepard's last breath". Ugh, it's a little sickening if you ask me.

This is the only real issue I have with the ending. Sort this out, and the case can finally be laid to rest.

tbh I really don't care if he lived or died, what I wanted was an ending that made sense, I wanted an ending that fitted with the overarching plot to the ME trilogy, I wanted an ended that didn't require writers to break established lore and then have to rewrite it to make the ending fit, in short I wanted a half decent conclusion to Shepard's tale, not an ending that would ruin the Mass Effect universe and make a joke out of what would have been a great trilogy.

The ME trilogy will only ever be remembered for one thing and that is what a balls Bioware made of ME3's ending.

I'm fine with it. It's not my story to tell, just to personalize to be well, more personal.

I would have loved Shep to have lived and borne the pain of his decisions over three games, that kind of bittersweet I can appreciate, as I appreciated the final scenes of BSG.

Death or Breath was a little too vague, but my inital rage over the endings has receded to weary resignation.

I'm fine with it after the EC, I think its pretty clear if you wanted Shepard to live he/she can live.

My only issue remains with the actual mechanics of the choice. I hate the 'pick a door, any door' scenario. I also hate the lack of resolution with the reapers. In a game about the end times war with them, and we only get one conversation with them? To me, that's the most aggravating things.

I also wish EDI/Geth deaths had been reacted to in ending slides.

I am perfectly fine with it.

I am also fine with people who wanted Shep to live.

I am not not fine with people who talk like Shep living would fix the ending when the Starbrat is what makes the ending ridiculous.

I expected Shepard to die since ME 2. However, choosing Destroy and getting the breath scene annoyed me.

It's terrible. If you go in prepared enough, Shepard should be able to come out alive and happy (or at least happyish) Not languishing in a pile of rubble or commit suicide-by-Crucible
MEHEM is my canon now.

Honestly, I thought The Intelligence was one of the best, if not the best part of the trilogy. I can still remember the first time I played the game. I was on the edge of my seat after the unexpected confrontation with the Illusive Man. One of my favorite characters dies with me helpless to stop it, and now the Crucible isn't firing. When the Citadel elevator took Shepard up to meet the Intelligence, that had to be one of the most awe inspiring moments I'd ever experienced in a game, or ever, really.

For me the problem with ending was not what was said, or what wasn't. It was that a story about choice and consequence came down to a decision that felt so linear and disconnected from all that had preceded it that it felt alien to me and therefore my Shep.

ME was so good at feeling like "our" game that it's final choice felt like a betrayal. In some ways this was perhaps unavoidable, as ME was not "ours". That realisation was a devastating one though.
