Unable to get out of this position. I walked by the ladder and fell off the deck and there is no way for me to get out fo this position. Will have to reload last saved update.

I had a similar problem, fell through the deck, got stuck under one of the archer platforms in between the posts. Nothing I tried pathfinding ways got me out. I had to reload an earlier save.

Make a shortcut to your desktop of "daorigins.exe" (Dragon Age/bin_ship/daorigins.exe) go to shortcut properties, and under Target add -enabledeveloperconsole
Then go into the keybindings.ini file located in "My Documents\\BioWare\\Dragon Age\\Settings\\" Find the line "OpenConsole_0=Keyboard::Button_X" (GRAVE is default, change X to any button that is not already used in the game.)
Start up your game load your game, press the button that you set and use this
runscript zz_jump_around

Yeah... all you can do at this point is load an earlier save, or go with the console method... trouble is... using the console to fix your problems in games tends to be a bit... risky. (my Oblivion saves kept corrupting for this reason, and several of the quests were permanently broken because of it)

Just wondering if one of the other characters goes to the "City Map" door and exits does the gather your party get you out?

No, we're talking about the first time at Ostagar, on the way to the Tower.
At least in my case exiting the map wouldn't work as there were a bunch of darkspawn between me and the only exit and I would have been shorthanded fighting them.
Thankfully I don't think its possible to get into this situation without having a relatively recent autosave, since its right after the Joining, so its easy to go back.

i would recommend making auto saves every time u go anywhere after talking to anyone, and also have a save in the beginning of a quest...i had to go back 8 hours through due to a bug in the orazammar quest, a paragon of her kind...when u have to pick a side, dont go for both, if u pick both, and u try to side with both, there will be a deadlock...both of them will ask the same qwestion and u cant go any farther >.<...8 hours of replay due to that bug >.<

In my case it was the very first time exploring Ostagar - before the battle starts. In that situation I had no other party members to rescue me by exiting the map.
Also I'm wondering who the mysterious yet helpful stranger in post #3 is? No name, no avatar, just a lot of console knowledge.

Found a way out - IF you have at least one other party member in your group...
1. have your party members follow you
2. go all the way around to the back entrance where you and Duncan walked in the first place (you will be able to "climb" up to the higher level ground again if you keep on walking up the slope).
3. with some walking around near the gate and walls you can change control to another character - with luck they will be on the other side of the gate and viola! you're back in business!
Good hunting!
