Just finished Mass Effect. It was a lot of fun. I'll be starting the second one shortly. Dragon Age: Origins for a while has been my favorite game, but wow. I know they are different settings, but the art direction and cinematic experience in ME totally crushes any beauty that DA has ever attempted.

SPOILERS

Really.

Kaidan's death was hilarious. Saren shooting himself in the face was awesome. I hope in ME2 I get similar situations!

Mass Effect 2 is great and Mass Effect 3 MIGHT be a let down for ya. At the very least you should get the free extended ending DLC before you play the last game.

Both ME2 & ME3 may be a let down depending on how much you want your roleplaying games to be third person shooters. I'm afraid Bioware sort of trashed the roleplaying aspects in ME3 and to certain extent in ME2 as well. Bottom line ME2 & ME3 are not the same kind of games like ME1 and Dragon Age Origins are.

There is a sharp change in style between ME1 and 2 - from classic RPG to action RPG. Similar to the change between DA:O and DA2, except I think it works a Hell of a lot better for the Mass Effect games.

Have fun.

I was also really late to the party.

I got all 3 games about a week ago. Played them like crazy, got all the DLC.

Man was I sad when I found out that there won't be more DLC, neither will there be ME4 - just a game playing in the same franchise on a different setting.

I am so happy I managed to dodge all spoilers for around 6 years - the triology was such a moving experience for me.

But it is so weird when you move into something that was so big after the hype and mostly everybody left, all the controversies about stuff going on died off, going around the internet and looking for ME fans, communities and stuff in general it seels like you are in a ghost town - a great and mysterious one, and you always ask yourself "wow - how that must have been back then."

Yeah, I'm flying through ME2 right now. I find it really fun. I love killing aliens. There are a few things that bug me, such as not being able to hold conversations during missions and that stupid elevator on the ship. Oh dear, I spend so much time on that damn thing. ME2 is great. I'm on my way to Omega 4, and people keep bringing up sacrifice.

I love you, but see ya later Tali. Time to die!

I seriously do not understand why people consider ME2 and ME3 to be different from ME1, gameplay wise. In all three games you level up exactly the same way, the only thing that you lose between ME1 and the rest is the awful inventory management. What you gain is customization for armor and weapons, and an ammunition system instead of a heat system, which in my opinion is far more meaningful in terms of RP than having an inventory. Gameplay wise that is literally the only change. ME3 even does reputation better, adding your paragon and renegade points to a common pool rather than you having to strictly adhere to one or the other to get some of the later alignment based dialog options.

They play almost the same, the controls are just tighter and everything is generally improved from a gameplay standpoint. Story wise, Mass Effect was never truly incredible by any stretch but it's a solid series and it stays consistently good through the sequels.

I'm playing ME3 now, and really enjoying it. The simple stuff that's been added like the tuck and roll increases combat speed and changed the way I typically approached combat. Now I run around like a chicken with its head cut-off pistol whipping everything to death. I like!

And I have to agree x1000000 that ME1's inventory system was appalling, and the new reputation system allows for character depth.

Hi there...i have been playing ME 2 of the Trilogy Pack for over 100 hours now. but just can't get the hang of playing that stupid side-game where you have to find 3 of the same "colour-code". I played through all three parts of Mass Effect when the game(s) came out years ago without HAVING to go thru this crap. Why the change? Is there a way around this side-game?
