Hi guys.  I am quite puzzled by the runecrafting skill. I've done some research, and it says that Anders start out with 1 point in that, but after I finished one main plot questline and a bunch of side quests, I was still not seeing that runecrafting skill anywhere. Not even on Anders. I've done a lot of Googling, and nowhere does it say when the runecrafting skill becomes available to use. So I'm like baffled.

Am I missing something? My Warden was imported from Origins after I finally finished the playthrough. I know I'm late to the party, but better late than never.

Isn't it available in the skills menu?

It's not available in the skills menu. All I see are the original skills from Origins. No new skills. I deleted my character and re-imported her again and started a new game on Awakening, and it's still the same story. No runecrafting available in the skill menu even after I pick up Anders and make him a Grey Warden.

Hmm, so you don't have 'vitality' and 'clarity' as well? You may try using a 'manual of focus' and see if the missing skills come back. Or may be try reinstalling awakening.

Ok, I got home from college and checked. Nope I don't have vitality and clarity on the skills tab if that's what you meant. I bought a manual of focus from the Denerim guy in Vigil's Keep and it was _not_ usable. It did not have a hand icon on the radical menu thingie. So I guess the next step is to uninstall and re-install Awakening.

^I have the ultimate edition, so I can simple reinstall the whole thing. I have no idea if unistalling only awakening is possible in this version. Similarly, I have even lesser idea about the steam version. Sorry about that. I'm sure someone else will have useful hints on this.

I have the standard PC version. I spoke with tech support and they recommended that I do a manual uninstall on the whole nine yards. So I will be doing that tonight once I finish my college homework. Come to think of it, are there any mods known to cause issues with Awakening but not with Origins?

Here's a good guide for a new installation:

Did your uninstall fix your problem with your runecrafting, vitality, and clarity skills? I have the same problem and just noticed when I went to check skills.....I'm half way through...=-( Oh, well....I was just curious if you got the issue fixed.

Just in case - If you have the Awakening in the OC mod, or anything similar that shifts resources between Origins and Awakening, you need to disable it before starting an Awakening campaign.

That's the only thing I know of that's guaranteed to bug out the skills window.

Did you have any luck with getting the skill trees that were missing? I have the exact same problem, and I got the game in January last year, during which I had everything in Awakenings and played through it twice without any issues. But my third playthrough I was stunned to see that all the skill trees that were usually with Awakening were gone.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled the game to no avail. I've also repaired it several times, also to no avail. And the one time I tried contacting EA, I was transferred and then my call ended without a resolution. I have difficulties contacting them again since I can't hear well over the phone and chat's unavailable and I can't find an email address.

I can play the base game without any issues, but it's extremely annoying that I can't play Awakening the way it should be played.

If you are on a PC, there's a work around. Enable the developer console and use the command "runscript zz_fab". That will place in a room with all necessary crafting supplies to skill up howsoever you wish. Just about every item in the game is in the room as well.

Your avatar is a good match with your solution. It seems like something Isabella would do.

I'm seeing the specializations in the debug room, but the talent trees specific to Awakening are still missing. I'm also still trying to figure out how to leave the debug room now that I'm in it...

Also, for some reason even getting the books for the specializations isn't unlocking them? I can see them so I know they're there, but they're not unlocked after I get the books from the chests.

I've found the runscript commands for adding new talents, but even with that and a "success" after I input it, there's nothing showing up, even for the character that needs to be leveled up. The same applies for skills that are specific to Awakening. Nothing is showing up.

I'm not sure why you have no skills and talents, but you leave the debug room by right clicking on this door. It should bring up the world map.

I hate to say it, but it sounds as though your game is borked. The books should add the talents automagically, as should the commands.

I did figure out how to leave the debug room! So that worked.

I don't know how it borked. :( Because it was working fine. I got it on Steam, but when I started my third playthrough and wanted to do Awakening all the skills/talents were missing for some reason. Then I transferred it to Origin in hopes I could repair it on there, but no dice. :( It also didn't work when I uninstalled and installed it. I have absolutely NO idea what to do at this point, since I have difficulties getting in touch with EA. The time I did manage to get hold of them over phone, I could barely understand the speaker and I was transferred before the call abruptly ended. Since then I haven't had any luck doing so again, and I can't find their email address.

This isn't what I bought the Ultimate edition for.

Does the skills page look like this and you just can't get the skills, or does the skills page look like the origins page?
And is your player character level 20?

That's how it used to look for my first two playthroughs. But right now the skills page looks like it did for Origins. Same for the talent trees. I can see the specializations now after I entered the debug room, but I can't select them even though they should be accessible.

I have a LV 24 Warden that I imported from my last playthrough through the base game.

Since your first two playthroughs, could you have added any mod that changed the abi_base.gda?

I had to look up what that is, but you're referring to some basic coding that has to deal with how the game catalogues talents and skills, right? I'm not sure what mods would affect that. I did add some, but I'm not sure which could affect it like that.

What I would do, is disable all your mods & start a new awakening game with a new warden & see if the skills and talents are there.
Also look in C:\Users\XXXXXX\Documents\BioWare\Dragon Age\packages\core\override & see if you have any .gda files that start with abi_

If they are back when your mods are disabled, then one of you mods is at fault. (ie wasn't made for Awakening)

As you re-enable your mods, think about whether they add new skills or talents, or change existing skills or talents, like when you get them, or who can use them. (The Winter Forge for example adds new skills, and so it has an Origins version & an Awakening version.)

As Aleya mentioned above, Awakening in the OC mod, is a mod that changes skills & is clearly meant only for Origins.
