In preparation for 'Citadel', I am playing through Mass Effect 3 again. It's been a long time coming, but this is the first playthrough I've done where Kaidan survived on Virmire. Originally, I was under the impression that Ashley and Kaidan recieved the same amount of content each. They each have three scenes in Heurta Memorial, and they both have three scenes if they return to the Normandy (Kaidan has two on the Normandy and one on the Citadel, Ashley has one on the Normandy and two on the Citadel).
But during my playthrough, I've noticed some very noticeable differences in the treatment Kaidan recieved in comparison to Ashley. Kaidan has a tonne of ambient dialogue on the Normandy spread throughout the second half of the game, which is something I think Ashley almost completely lacks. She doesn't interact with anyone, whereas I've seen Kaidan speak to EDI over the intercom, play poker with James, and talk with Adams down in Engineering.
I'm starting to see why people feel Kaidan is more prominent in ME3 than Ashley. He provides way more flavor.
I don't think Kaidan has more dialogue, I just think his are more focussed on his relationships with the other people on the Normandy while Ash has more content about the people in her life.
My first reaction to Ash was actually that I felt she had more content (because she has a touching scene on the Citadel and even her gift and romance scene seem more tailored to her specifically and Kaidan has nothing like that). But I'd really think that they both have about the same amount of dialogue.
That it's spent differently just shows the differences in the characters better (Ash isn't very happy about Liara,Tali or Garrus in ME1 but her sisters/family is clearly very important to her so it makes sense that she'd have content connected to her family but not to them. Plus she obviously hangs out with James... And Kaidan has no idea if anyone from his life outside the Normandy is even stil alive and doesn't really hold grudges...)
