Both Playstation 4 and Xbox 720 are using AMD graphic cards.

They are? I didn't know that. Do you have proof?

If so, sweet! Down with nVidia.

The new Xbox's specs are rumors so we don't know for sure but the PS4 has already stated they are using AMD technology.

You know, TressFX looks pretty GPU intensive. It looks like a feature for mid-range and high end cards to me. We'll see when it is released, I guess.

That's going to look like crap without some good anti aliasing.

I have to say though that it makes Lara's hair look too clean, and that the original pony tail makes it actually look dirtier and matted like it would have gotten without a hair brush...

However the clean look would be perfect for Orlais's citizens.

Totally I definitely think this needs to be something included for DA3 at least as an optional inclusion like tomb raider has done.

It definitely has its place among characters with daily access to a hair brush. It could be a problem though when you bring in many npcs with complex hair.

This would be great...and my AMD graphics card would finally be better at a particular feature than NVIDIA! :wizard:
It'd have to be optional, obviously, but this would definitely lessen one of my main gripes about current 3D graphics.

So glad I preordered Tomb Raider. I wish more games had realistic flowing hair, especially for customizable created characters like in Mass Effect and Dragon Age.

I feel the need to point out that Nvidia has HAD a hair demo (and video) since the release of DirectX 11. While I'm all for better hair, I don't see any compelling reason to use proprietary technology to do so.

In Tomb Raider's case, it looks like her hair is fresh out of the salon, meanwhile she's covered in dirt and sometimes rain (where the hair should look more matte and clumped into larger strands). A bit out of place.

It is a nice effect, though. I wouldn't mind seeing it on nobles or other appropriate NPCs.

A miracle!

Have to read more about it and hope we will see that in bioware futur games.

Just fantastic. Fingers crossed it makes it in. Forgive my ignorance, could something like that be an 'addon' like the High-Res Texture Pack? Or does it need to be built into the engine or something?

If the former, I would be hopeful for it, if the latter, it probably won't happen as it would exclude a lot of potential customers I would imagine.

It looks nice, but hair physics are really low on my list of priorities.

This is some really great tech, love it. On the same vein, I am building a new PC and currently with the purchase of 7850 and 7870 GPUs( the 7900s also I believe) you get a free download of Tombraider and Bioshock infinity. Hopefully I can see the visuals myself here shortly in game.

Thats really nice, also solves one of issues I had with previous game (being the lego/mr potato head style hair plopped on characters). Then again they are already using new frostbite engine so I don't know how good hair would look even without that tressfx, but if frostbite is not up to same quality as that then would be nice if tressfx can be incorporated into frostbite to make it better.

I like the physics part of it, but the hair looks really weird at the tips. The roots are nice, though!

Unless there is a bump map for every armor in the game, this will clip like crazy.

Thats some fancy looking hair.   The faster we get away from the plastic hair textures the better!

I'll be happy as long as they don't look like plastic, i.e. DA2.

And if the beards aren't just textures, i.e. DA:O. Just look at it:

There is supposed to be hair under you chin, not just some growing from under you lip.

That's pretty spiffy! I've always been a fan of more realistic hair behaviour in games.

Realistic physics for hair is nice. Realistic colouring and highlights are also great and so is digital hair that reacts realistically to lighting.

What would be superb, though would be hair that reacts realistically to rain by becoming limp and saturated with water and darkens accordingly. Now if someone could apply TRESSFX to facial hair, I'd be a very happy gamer. Has anyone done that yet?

That would be great, if wasn't an AMD exclusive technology only available to people with some of the higher end 7000 series Radeons.

It isn't.  When AMD sponsors a game, they pretty much try to make the PC version the best version across all graphics cards, so any features they might add to a game will work with any PC version, as long as your card can handle it.  Whereas if nvidia sponsors a game, they just throw pointless PhysX features like random shootable and swirly debris, then lock it out of AMD cards.  So "TressFX" isn't really exclusive, it's just a gimmicky name for better computational rendering of realistic hair.
Having said that, I have no idea who's helping develop/sponsoring DAIII, but I would like to see realistic hair included.

(also, I know I probably sound like an AMD fanboy, but I actually own a GTX 670. but it's cool that AMD doesn't lock features out to make their cards look "superior," unlike nvidia)
