Tactics for the final battle on Insanity?

I've played through the rest of the game on Insanity and while it was occasionally somewhat difficult, I went through with less than a handful of deaths. The final battle, through, gives me a headache. It's basically useless to try and kill the banshees because as soon as you kill one, another one appears. Better focus on the other enemies, that way you gain at least some freedom of movement, or so I think, but I can't kill a subset of them fast enough to find cover against the others that lasts more than two seconds, given that the banshees roam the battlefield.
My tactic so far has been to slowly lure enemies into the area where you entered, thus freeing the area with the missile launcher so that you can get there without dying once it's active, and survive long enough by being mobile and killing selected enemies. This has worked perfectly on Hardcore, but succees on Insanity has eluded me so far.
I think my problem is that my squad is skilled towards offense and tech bursts, while I need more of a "controller" setup here since I don't need to kill a lot but only to survive a fixed amount of time. But the worst part is getting to the missile switch without dying....
So, how does everybody here play this mission? Skillset, tactics, squadmates - anything is appreciated. I'm an Engineer. Should I take Liara and Javik (more power use because of shorter cooldowns) instead of Garrus and James (powerful tech bursts, but cooldown feels like eternity)? I'd rather not replay from the FOB but it may be less frustrating.

As a engineer you can solo detonate very quickly, I honestly havent had much trouble with Insanity most of my deaths comming from a turret i didnt notice. In that particular mission, fight them around the store i allready mentioned, when you get swarmed by more banshee's than you can handle missle them and start to retreat to the other store( the one to the right(east of the missle silo),
Jame's incendiary ammo is key here, cuz both him and garus can detonate it (james with carnage, and garus with concussive shot if speced into ammo properties), and it will destroy Minions and infantry. A engineer u can strip banshee shields very quickly and just anihilate armor with incinerate/overload detonations. Didn't rlly have much probs with it, most of my playtroughs i do it ash/garus(and my sheps a soldier
1 thing worthy of notice is when the final missles are primed you can just ignore the enemies, run to the missle controll and ur set

The big challenge are the banshees, use overload and dark channel to weaken barriers and then hammer them until they die. Ravages and harvesters you just need to shoot them a bunch, inferno ammo really helps this out.
Keep Javik's lift grenades in reserve in case you get grabbed by a banshee, use James's on armored enemies.
What guns are you using for you and your squadmates? I'm assuming a heavy pistol (Carnifex, Paladin etc...) and an SMG/light AR.

I'd recomend having defense matrix as bonus power. It may slow powers a bit but gives damage protection. The important part about it is that with one tap of the button you recharge your shields, as the havoc's ability (though it doesn't buff them) that will save you lots of medigel.
Don't care about squaddies dying if they're far from you, or killing that many enemies. You jsut need to sprint to the missiles and activate them.
For that last run is that I find defense matrix useful and if I have to use medigel there I use it, the important thing is to stay alive to click it. If you can kite enemies around or put squad members on their way as human shields do it.
I was playing as a soldier the first time. The second as an infiltrator and I just kept invisible and threw powers not to break stealth. And later I stealthed my way to the missile.

How long does this part last, btw?
Hmm....reskilling is unappealing. I'd have to do all of Priority Earth again, and the "wait for extraction" bit at the Hades Cannon wasn't exactly fun.

Indra sniper rifle, Phalanx Pistol and some light SMG I don't recall. Still on +200% cooldown. James has the Graal Spike Thrower and the Mattock, Garrus the Mattock and...hmm...don't recall.Steelcan wrote...

. I'd use the Falcon for James, Prothean Beam Rifle for Javik, and the Widow/Javelin for Garrus. Both are solid damage weapons, especially when combined with inferno ammo.Ieldra2 wrote...

Garrus's armor piercing or James's incendinery ammo work really well for Heavy pistols and give SMG's a much needed damage boost. I've never used the Indra though so I can't speak for it.

In addition to what's been said, I have to note something: NEVER stay in the same position for more than 1-2 minutes. It just doesn't seem to work. At all.
This...
When I completed my insanity play through a couple of weekends ago....I did alot of kiting until the game told me to launch the second missle.

It would be nice enough to find a position for regenerating shields. Three minutes into the sequence, I can't even manage that. It appears almost as if Shepard is a homing beacon for the banshees. This is odd, btw.. Never had that happen before, or in any other battle in this game.Fiery Phoenix wrote...

My general strategy is to camp on the far side from the Reaper. Then just run to the button when the Reaper is in range of the missiles. I save the Hydra for right before that to help clear Marauders, since they are more dangerous than the Banshees.
Defend the Missiles:
No Charge NovaGuard
Cryo Soldier w/ Team Dextro
AR Vanguard w/ Ash and Garrus
Infiltrator
AR Vanguard w/ Liara and Garrus

Please note that this was before I rally grasped the game mechanics, so I was actually using a lot of Cryo Blast. I really should have been using Sabotage, Overload, and Incinerate a lot more.
I use Garrus and Ashley, but just about everyone would work well with an Engineer.
A lot of really good strategy tips have been mentioned, so I will not go into a lot of detail here.

i mostly try avoiding marauders , kill the ones getting too close.
and when missiles are ready, i just make sure i have good health/shields and then run for it.
