open your eyes and your mind for you now shall learn about the future of the Mass Effect universe. Some of you may have read my old thread, this shall be my overhaul for all old friends of this theory and I hope that it will lead new supporters of this theory here.
First, let me share some thoughts.
The ending of Mass Effect 3 wants us to believe that the Reapers are led by the Catalyst, the embodyment of all Reaper minds together. However, there is a flaw in that line of thinking. Being the embodyment of the Reapers themselves, the Catalyst esentially is the Reapers, that would mean they lead themselves. This is clearly not the case, the reapers are quite obviously servants. But then, there must be someone, something out there that is actually pulling the strings. And that something makes a brief and subtle appearance at the beginning of the Catalyst conversation, although it vanishes shortly after that as ot watches the cycle failing. I will illustrate this presence here.
The Star Dog.
Star Dog face 1:

This is the earliest appearance of Star Dog that we get, and the most detailed one as well. I made the rest of the screen darker and marked the dog's ears, eyes and nose from left to right in order to make it easier for you to see it. The dog looks to the right, of course, that is where the scene happens. It is, as said before, a rather subtle appearance.
Star Dog face 2:

Recognizing that the Cycle is about to fail, the Star Dog's face turns red, maybe of anger. It also seems to lose interest in the galaxy because failure of the cycle seems to equal failure of the galaxy, it probably has many more galaxies under its control. The loss of interest is illustrated in the vanishing ears, it does not listen anymore. Marked in the picture, you only see eyes and nose. The perspective, however, is still the same.
Star Dog face 3:

The perspective changed, Star Dog is no looking in the direction of the viewer frontally, but still right towards the scene. This illustrates Star Dog's omnipresence while at the same time that very presence is disappearing. The red face almost completely fainted and can only be recognized because one of Star Dog's characteristic red eyes is still there. The other eye and its nose disappeared as well, illustrating the further loss of interest in what is happening.
After that, it vanishes; It has decided to abandon this cycle and it went away.
But where did it go?
This is a difficult question and it requires some speculation, but I can attempt to answer it. If you do a little research, you will find out that while we don't know of any "Star Dog", there is a "Dog Star": Sirius:

This is the key to knowing where it lives. The power of Star Dog is illustrated by the fact that Sirius is the brightest star of all, nearly twice as bright as No.2 (source: Wikipedia). So where do we have to go to find it?
The most likely answer is here: The Sirius Relay.
So prepare yourself dear community, as we will hit the Siruis Relay and finally face the almighty Dog Star, probably in a whole new Mass Effect series dedicated to this incredible entity. Feel free to discuss and speculate what might happen there in this thread, or join the Star Dog theorists group.
Until then, farewell and be nice to your dogs!
