Here's the story behind the Collector in MP. Haven't played Leviathan so don't know much about this.

Background:

When the Reaper-killer known as Leviathan fought the Collectors, it severed their connection to Harbringer with a thrall device. Most Collector forces died as a result, but a few survived. Now, these rare individuals fight for the memory of their people, a proud race broken by the Reapers.
Protheans appointed avatars to embody and model a single virtue for their society. The Awakened Collectors' virtue is vengeance.

No clue, maybe the Leviathans changed them or something.

On Xbox, you just click Y over the character in the selection screen. It displays the info.

They've simply ignored what Mordin had to say on the matter before.
Just look at the Synthesis ending.

So I guess the whole "Collectors are glorified husks" bit was retconned?

Not surprised.

There's a [ ? ] when hovering the mouse over a character. Click on it and it'll display the info.

I think the no soul thing was more about them not having any autonomy left after a life of indoctrination. Of course you do not know to which extent they are enthralled. Also I would love to see javik's reaction

Exactly. ME2 established (I think it was Mordin or EDI or both) that the Collectors retain nothing of the Protheans, having suffered extensive modifications. Or am I missing something?

indoctrination being removed by another indoctrination already happened in the first game.

I'm worried about the broader implications. Reaper troops can be freed from reaper control, they'd be little more then zombies singleminded killing machines but they can be freed.

I wonder if, "most Collector forces died as a result", is a coy way of saying that there will be no Collectors in the SP DLC.

How they can fight for a memory of their people when they never knew one and never will be because they are brainless kind of robots with flesh...

Geez, it's not even out yet and fans have started giving their own background on stories BioWare are meant to have written themselves...

This is a new age indeed.

I guess explanation should be a bit more simple. Leviathan's drone is fine. "Now, these rare individuals fight for the memory of their people, a proud race broken by the Reapers." What?

It could be that the leviethans freed them from reaper it seems to imply that but the explination is not that good

it severed their connection to Harbringer with a thrall device. Most Collector forces died as a result, but a few survived. Now, these rare individuals fight for the memory of their people, a proud race broken by the Reapers.

I really hope this description is not suggesting the Collectors are capable of free will, let alone the capacity to "fight for the memory of their people". Because that should not be possible.

It's a lore break. Collectors are lost, Mordin explained it quite in detail.

But that won't bother those who listened to Bioware are started with ME3 to begin with.
