Other Idea.... Get a time traveler of some sort on your team... Then go back and prevent the apocalypse from even happening!
That depends on the nature of the outbreak. If it's like Walking Dead where everyone's infected with the zombie virus, then you're not going to be able to prevent that. Especially if you don't even know how the infection came to pass.
