Hidden Dialogue (spoilers, obviously)

One of the things I adore about this game is the amount of dialogue that's buried, that you never see unless you meet the specific requirements to do so. It adds so much to subsequent playthroughs when I find little gems like that.

For instance, in my current FHN warrior playthrough, I chose the templar specialization before I had the discussion with Alistair why he's remained a templar if he hates the Chantry. Surprisingly, a new dialogue option popped up...

Alistair: ...I'm a sucker for good tailoring.

PC: There's a uniform? Where's mine, then?

Alistair: Well *you* didn't have to go through the years and years of boring book-work, so *you* don't get a uniform. [chuckles] Consider yourself lucky.

PC: So your templar-hood was earned?

Alistair: With blood, sweat, and hours upon hours of flagellating myself in the dark. That's the mark of any pious man, you know.

That last line had me rolling on the floor with laughter... :)

Has anyone else discovered "hidden" dialogue that only comes up under specific circumstances?

I don't know how hidden it is, but Leliana, in a random line in Orzammar: You know, I should get a job here when this is all over. I could sing songs, tell stories, help the King get stuff off of high shelves..."

I can't recall the whole the dialogue. But there was one banter between Orghan and Al. about polishing his weapon. Al thought he was talking about masturbation.

lol, I haven't had that one come up yet. There are so many that you just don't know which is "new" or which isn't. I like Leliana calling Sten a big softy, and Sten in his manly voice say we will not talk about that any more - gets me laughing. Also Morrigan comparing the Mage tower to a phallic symbol.

Probably common knowledge by now, but if you are a blood mage before finishing the Broken Circle arc at Gregaoir, with all mages survived, or only Wynne survived, she will prompt you about the strange magic you used to defeat all the hostiles, in mid-conversation.

With which you can cause a real carnage.

You get an extra dialogue option as a templar with that guy who give the orphanage quest in the Alienage.

You also get an extra dialogue option either as a rogue or with high enough cunning (not sure which it is, I _think_ rogue but I'm not 100%, it might also be both) in the Tower of Ishal (you can suggest the darkspawn knew about the beacon-lighting plan) and call people on potentially trying to get you into a trap (but you still have to go anyway, usually)

Sten has extra dialogue trees if you take him to the Circle.

I think those are all the ones I know about..

My favorite is if you get engaged to Alistair, have him at 100 love, but never slept with him. I did this by turning on the romance at the doors of the landsmeet. If during the discussion afterwards, when he brings up having an heir, you answer, "Well, not for lack of trying," he gets really embarrassed and says something like, "Wow, is that me blushing? Yes it is!"

I like bringing different party members into various situations on these later play-throughs - besides party banter change-ups - i am STILL hearing new stuff, you get some interesting commentary on situations sometimes.

I am finally using Zevran a lot more, once I could re-spec him, and I had him with me in Orzammer... on impulse, I went into Harrowmonts estate before bothering to go to the Assembly, and Harrowmont's second was there (I forget his name.) So of course he asks you to do a favor, and surprising, Zevran was quite vocal about how incredibly weasely Harrowmont was being, asking someone else to fight his battles, when his own supposed men were so easily swayed. It was actually a fair bit of back and forth... and it was pretty cool, because in the spirit of roleplaying, he actually was very succinct, and I decided that he was right, why would I do this guy's fighting? And the quest ended. I could probably go back and patch things up, but it seemed to fit.

(And yeah yeah, I have played the Dwarf Noble origin, and Behlen is no prize either, but how or why would my human noble character know that anyway.)

Well, that is a bit off topic... it would be hard to explain in writing, but I am sure if you check the Dragon Age wiki for that quest, you will get some specific directions.

Zevran has good comments in all the zones -- he's always in my party, for that reason.  My biggest decision each game is which area do I miss his comments in and then do that first so I can get him.  I do agree that in Orzammar he's at his best.

Yes the puzzle isnt hard. Just shift the blocks to make the fire go from the top NW corner to the bottom SE corner. use the dials on the blocks to direct the fire in the direction you want to go...

Hidden dilaogue...yeah just got a long diatribe about Alistair sleeping on the floor and enjoying cheese with the dogs that I had not seen before.

Dunno about hidden, but while playing yesterday, Sten opened up about how children are raised by the Qunari. It was fascinating particularly as it was my 4th "complete" playthrough and not the first time Sten has been a main companion. Mind you, it wasnt until my 3rd game that I discovered Sten isnt his name but is infact his title.

Lol! As a short person, I find that particularly amusing. I'll have to use Leiliana more in Orzamar this time.

I knew Sten was his title but I'd love to hear how the Qunari raise their children! How did you get him to do that, do you know?

RageGT (I think) had posted a funny dialogue when you ask the Templar to take you across the lake to the Circle. One of the options prompted Sten to step forward with a cookie and if you ask him where he got them from, he replies he took them off a "slovenly" child. I did that for the first time yesterday and afterwards when I chose the "I want to talk about something you mentioned" option, the topic of children and parenthood opened up.

(Thanks RageGT!)

Oh this one's a riot. Only had it come up once, never again.

Al: Wait a minute, what're you talking about?

Ohgren: What're you talking about?

The "little pike-twirler" banter between Oghren and Wynne regarding Alistair is pretty hilarious too. I only have one question: in all my many playthroughs, I have yet to come across a pike. So where did Alistair get one, and why is he twirling it in the woods, of all places?

And why must it be done without a shirt? But most importantly, why can't we find him twirling his pike some time??

@ ejoslin...  Yep, sure did. :P

Oh and Freckles, you're probably right. I generally finish everything up before the landsmeet so in my mind that's the end of the game.
