And I tried harpooning a white whale. That didn't go so well. I hadn't upgraded my little boat or harpoons, and kept getting capsized by his tail. I'll get back to that later. Right now, I'm having way too much fun sailing the high seas.

Nah, I tried the white whale like 5 or 6 times and I'm convinced that the fishing boat and harpoons have to be MAXED for this one.  It is the white whale, after all.

The bull sharks are pretty easy though.

You have a good point. I haven't even tried bull sharks yet. Maybe I should set my sights a little lower to start out. Image IPB

I did wrestle with some alligators, though. That was fun! I initially shot one, then his buddy came, and we had a little QTE fight. He tried to run away, so he got a bullet in the butt, and I got a new ammo pouch.

Once I got to Nassau, I went into a shop, and realized I could equip the outfits I'd acquired from playing previous games, but instead, opted to wear the Governor's outfit (from the social chest challenge). They really excel at awesome-looking clothing.

I keep wasting money on new outfits, but the first one I bought, the Pirate Cloak is still my favorite. That one looks so amazing.

I'm still weeks away from my copy, but aren't the outfits just recolors of the same thing?

They look pretty different to me...

I think the ones you buy are pretty similar, but the ones you get from bonuses/rewards, or by crafting look completely different from each other. That list on IGN isn't all-inclusive, sadly. I haven't found one yet that is.

I need to try that one still. I started wearing the one from BI - Captain Morgan's...something or other.

I'm liking the shark hunter outfit that you can craft and the leopard/ocelot one is actually pretty cool too.  I got tired of the skull and crossbones on the back of the pirate one.

QFT.  There was an old PC game called Pirates of the Carribean(unrelated to the Disney films) that was much like this and I enjoyed it alot.  AC5 really improves on all the things that made that game tedius.  It's also much flashier and more user friendly than Sid Meirs Pirates, which was a fun game.  The pirating aspect makes this game different enough to stand out from all of the AC prequels.

Has anyone progressed with the main story of the game? I haven't really got that far (started sequence 4) because I just want to hop on the Jackdaw and go exploring and looting.

I think my next stop is the Black Island looking at that pirate outfit! It's awesome!

Playing this game (and enjoying it immensely) makes me wonder why there haven't been many pirate/naval games before. I am only aware of the Sid Meier one.

I got to sequence 5, I believe. I've been mostly just exploring, and finding new locations on the map. Cleared a fort, found the Mayan wall, and...well, I don't want to tell too much. But I did get a blowgun, so I've been having a ball putting snipers to sleep, and kicking them off their posts to their deaths. Hehe.

Found another smuggler's den and cleared it out. Those are fun. I have yet to try killing a bull shark, but I plan to soon, now that I've reinforced the fishing boat, and improved my harpoons. I did tangle with some panthers, and crafted the feline coat, but haven't tried much else in the way of crafting outfits. I ended up going back to Kenway's outfit, because the kitty coat kind of looked like a Halloween costume to me. :)

I should look up the VA for James Kidd; sounds like Ygritte from Game of Thrones (Rose Leslie). I don't think it is, but I kept thinking of GoT while speaking to him.

And just to reiterate, I <3 this game.

I'm currently in sequence 12 (The story goes soo fast because its awesome). Its very straight to the point and at no point does the story try to be smarter then it actually is. Which is a huge improvement over AC 3.

The fact that Edward Kenway is such a likeable character helps alot as well (He reminds me alot of Sinbad lol) and I think he has become my favorite AC protagonist.

For those who think he just remains the same and doesn't really develop, don't worry. He changes alot in the last sequences.

How many hours have you played?

You can usually see it in an "info" or "stats" screen.

I'm curious because I'm hoping for a story that's longer than they usually are.

Currently 25 hours. Did do some side stuff as well, but mostly story missions.

Not really sure if there is poker. There is a mini game though that you can do at taverns, but never did them myself so I don't know :P

I have completed sequence 4 and I think I've done about 15 hours, but as I say, I get very distracted.

I have spent a bit of time and money upgrading the Jackdaw, that I forgot about upgrading Edward! So I have now had to turn huntress. I did feel a bit glum harpooning that shark :-(

Thinking about James Kidd, his voice reminds me of a lowerpitched Maxine Peake. I have checked the Wiki and IMDB and there is no info. However, I have discovered that Benjamin Hornigold is voiced by Ed Stoppard, which suprised me, because he normally plays quite posh roles.

Re games, I have only come across 3 in the taverns, and alas no poker so far.
