This game is so addictive, and I'm having so much fun. I love the characters. The voice acting is great, and somehow they actually managed to make me care for these "side" characters. I adore Edward. Lol.
The shanties are so fun. And catchy as heck. I must restrain myself when steering my grocery cart through the store from singing, "what do we do with a drunken sailor.....arrggghh!" Hahaha.
The seas are gorgeous and alive! Sometimes I'm sailing and this giant whale leaps up in the air off to the side, and I'm like Whoa!
I'm almost done. I already know I'm gonna replay it. I've missed so much in it.

Anybody notice the IT guy at abstergo sounds a lot like Brandon Keener(Garrus) and he talks about calibrations a few times? I think that was intentional, pretty sure.
Yes! I noticed this, too. Idk if it is Garrus' voice actor, but it sure sounds like him. And the calibrations references. hehe.

When it comes to the Shanties I think "Bully in the alley" is my favorite
Although it would have been awesome if we had a shanty like this as well! With Edward singing along ofcourse!
I have to admit I like Running down to Cuba (in fact it's whirring through my head now)! These shanties are quite infectious. I have about 20+ of them now. You can change the shanty by pressing the right part of the D pad. And if you want them to stop singing, you press the down on the D Pad and then right again to start singing again (Edward says something like "sing you tarts")!
Looking at everyone's posts I am sooo behind. I have only just started sequence 5 (20 hours in)! I have to admit I do like seeing the social posts popping up in the game when XBL friends discover things.

I never noticed that. I am going to listen really hard next time I pop out of the animus.

Ha, I was doing the same. "way hay and up she rises, way hay and up she rises, way hay and up she rises, ear-li in the morning!"
When I know a game is good, I prevent myself from completing it too quickly. For me it was a toss up between this and the new batman game. Glad I made the right choice.

Me too! And sending Kenway's fleet out is pretty awesome when other peeps in your XBL friends list are playing. I didn't realize it right away, but you can help their ships get to their destinations faster, and get a fire barrel in return.Newschmoo wrote...

I need more of my friends to play at the same time as me, as I'm down to one barrel!

It should be available at the Munitions option - the same place where you can buy Mortar shots and heavy shots
Also great to hear that everybody seems to love this game!

I don't think they're the same as "regular" fire barrels. My stash of those is full, but in Kenway's Fleet, I'm down to one. It seems to be a different type, or something. But alas, I'll look when I get home.
Oooooooh! I thought you meant the regular fire barrels lol

And Kalas, for me when I really like a game I get to this point in the story where suddenly I just have to know the story. I start doing main missions all over. Actually I just finished sequence 11. I think 12 is the last. I shoulda set up a save from midway thru. Bah. I'm wondering now if I should go ahead and finish and replay. Or just go cause havoc to my hearts delight, then do the last sequence.
Idk.

I have run out of barrels and none of my .. sorry Edward's ships are bringing any back with them. So I'm having to stick to safer routes. I don't know how to get more either, or how you get friends to make your ships go faster? I must look into this!
@Rapscallioness - I don't know what I would do, but whatever you decide collect the shanties!

I think you can choose to help each ship (rather than a one-time "help friend"), so you could get several fire barrels at once, if your friend has lots of ships in play.
I helped one of your ships out this weekend, which is actually how I figured out that you could do it. I think it had like 6 hours left, and by helping, it went down to 4.
I also noticed sometime after that, my ships got a speed and defense bonus. Not sure if that was related in some way?

Surprised we can't do this cross-platform since we have to log into UPlay anyways.

You know, that might be the only way to get them after all...

What you talked about in the last paragraph, I didn't know about. Man, and all this time I've been ignoring them. I only got them because I wanted to complete everything on the island. Oh well. I guess I"l get to finding those buried chests.happy_daiz wrote...
I'm at just under 40 hours, and I'd say I've spent probably 20 hours on the ship. Not that I've had to. I WANT to. The undiscovered locations show up as question marks, which makes me even more obsessed with finding out what they are. When you liberate forts, even more items pop up on your map, too. So for me, that means lots of places to visit. I must get to the bottom of what each message in a bottle, chest, cadaver, etc. is all about, dang it.LPPrince wrote...
Another thing I'm glad to know before release.
My plan was to upgrade the Jackdaw and Edward as much as possible as early as possible.
Also, I still don't have the Jackdaw fully upgraded. I'm sure many people have made a ton of cash, and acquired the materials they need by boarding ships, but I've only recently gotten into doing that. My tactic has been to loot warehouses, but now that I've got some ships under my belt and in my fleet, I'm feeling more comfortable about taking on other ships. I actually took down two man-o-wars, one right after the other, last night. They're much easier than I thought they'd be, since they're slow. But the fear of the unknown kept me from it for a while.
Top-level improvements to the Jackdaw have a plan requirement - meaning you have to find the treasure map, then the corresponding buried treasure chest to get the plan to build it. And of course, you have to have the resources and the cash. But it's all doable eventually. More quickly if you're aggressive.
Anywho, one thing that I really like that hasn't been talked about in this thread is the modern-day story. I really love hacking into Abstergo computers and finding out more about:
***WARNING! SPOILERS!***
Warren Vidic's past as well as the history of the Animus. I especially love the reference to Watch_Dogs, which confirms that that game and the Assassin's Creed series are apart of the same universe.

Yes, you need a diving bell for a couple of them. You start off under water, then come out on land. I just completed one of those tonight, in fact. I had a treasure map for that location, which is what prompted me to go there...and a contract. Two for the price of one! The only bummer is that you're dressed in diving stuff (so not much), and have no weapons, so you have to be stealthy about it.Milan92 wrote...
Hmm... Currently busy with the Assassination Contracts and got 2 left. Apperantly they are reached from an underwater cave, but where exactly can you access them? Also do you need to unlock the diving bell first as well?

You don't actually need barrels for the ship fights to make trade routes safe, as I just figured out (derp). Your fleet/ships do have guns of their own, so you can just let them shoot at each other until someone wins. The fire barrels definitely help speed it up, but they're not required.
Helping friends actually does have other benefits, too. Last night after helping @Newschmoo with a few ships, and her helping with mine, I got a few relics as rewards. And a treasure map. I spent part of the evening last night hunting down those treasure chests from the maps I'd acquired. I think I took care of about 6 of them, and got a few more on the way.
I also found one of the smuggler's coves through a shipwreck. That one was in some kind of Mayan ruin, and was fun.

The first time? Sharks. The second time? Sharks, eels, urchins. The third time? More sharks than I could shake a stick at. The fourth time? Lots and lots of jellyfish, and urchins. That last time was actually the most pleasant (and pretty!)
The ones that have the air pockets, rather than air barrels, are more up my alley. While you're floating around in the air pocket, enemies leave you alone.
