I finished the game over the weekend and am left with a few questions.

An "end  game" question - just to be sure I'm not missing something.  Is there any available ending where you are are allowed to continue and play?  My plan all along had been to finish the main quest, then spend some more leisurely time doing side quests, downloading the DLC content, etc.  However, not only am I now dead but the entire game has wrapped up the plot well into the future.

So, is the only way to continue playing and building your character to go back and load a saved game prior to the final battles (perhaps pre-Landsmeet?) then, NEVER complete the game until I'm sure they aren't going to release any more DLC content?  Or is there some other ending I don't know about?

How will the ending effect the expansion?  Should I not complete the game until the expansion comes out?  Will my "dead" character carry over into the expansion or do I need to re-play the ending and  make choices that keep him alive?

You can't continue playing the game after you have finished it, that is what Awakening is for.

You should be able to use a save that take you to the camp and let you do DLC, it is called something around "Post something and then Epilogue" Takes you to do the camp. However it is not a continue it is right before the final battle, so I think Denerim and Redcliff is unvisitable.
So any side quests you might have and want to complete, I suggest you do them before the landsmeet.

Some choices like who is dead and who is on the throne should be some of the things that will effect the expansion.
You don't have to complete the game in order to play the expansion, you just need to have it, lol. The character can be imported during any time in the game, but if you do it before completing the game, not much reactivity will happen in the expansion pack since not many choices has been made yet.
If you 'die' in the game you will be a new grey warden commander in the expansion. If you are alive, you will play your old character.

The game creates a post-coronation save for you that allows you to play any Downloadable Content you haven't completed yet. You cannot complete sidequests however. So you have to load a save before the final battle or start a new game if you want to complete every sidequest.

Regarding the expansion pack:

1) If your character died in DA:O, you can start a new character (a Grey Warden Commander from Orlais). There are also references to your deeds in DA:O so that should be interesting ^^.

2) If you survived (you accepted Morrigan's Ritual or someone else killed the Archdemon) you can carry on with your existing character.

Are you 100% sure about that?

Thanks for the info. I think I'll just re-load a pre-Landsmeet save and spend some time doing side quests and the DLC content and then run through the ending again before the Awakenings expansion is released. I think I want to keep my character alive for that expansion anyway.
