I don't care about new items. You have the toolset and mods for this. What I want to see is more specializations, talents, and spells to allow for a variety of different builds considering that the expansion raises the level cap to 35 or something.
New Ways to Customize your Hero: Experience additional spells, abilities, specializations, and items to further personalize and customize your hero and party

I think your wish will be granted.
Edit: and waffles I would like to see waffles.

That doesn't help people playing on consoles though, does it? Which is the sole reason I would like to see different looking armor added to the game at some point. It's the only way the console versions can get anything new.

That was just my personal wish and I am happy that it will be granted.I was glad to read the IGN interview where one of the devs confirmed that there will be lots of new spells, extensions of the talent trees, and new specializations. This is not simply some cosmetic additions but it is something of substance that all platforms can benefit from as it adds to the longevity and replayability of the game. Having said that, I wouldn't mind the addition of a few extra weapons and armor as well.
Me too. I just hope they will be useable in the base game as well and not expansion specific. That would just completely take the wind out of my sails and make me one sad puppy.
Upon re-reading my post it occurred to me that it could be taken as me being snippy. I wasn't of course just pointing out that while mods are beneficial to those with the PC version, those who only have a console version can't just download a mod for free to add things to their games. The only hope they of new items is through officially released content. Not that I'd want to see Bioware release an item pack or anything, those just annoy me and I refuse to pay for them.

-10 or more tactics slot from the start of the game so you only need to micro manage for major battles not every other fight plus we would not have to waste vital skill points on tactic slots
-poison for arrows & bolts on shots fired/hits made basis instead of a timer
-trap making will allow us to craft, set, & disarm traps. I think its poor game design to have so much detail in so many aspects but then only rogues can disarm traps despite the fact your char can craft & set them he is too ignorant to disarm them...lame. lol
-respec(which we get, yay!)
-stamina pots, recipe, & random ingredient drops
-more variations of light armor(there are 2? maybe 3? brown, green & purple for colors)
I think that is all that comes to mind at the moment!!!
-Oh! for the love of the maker please make this game harder!!! after the 2 patches DA:O is so easy on nightmare it is just sad. If they keep this up you'll have to solo for any kind of challenge

If they don't fix the infinite mana issue, I'll be passing on it. Well passing on buying it anyways.
What issue are you talking about? Is it an actualy issue or exploit? If it is an exploit that shouldn't stop you form enjoying the game, you have to choose to use an exploit.

More cutscenes maybe.
Small minigame perhaps, even if its not repeatable, kind of like in The Pearl, where you're supposed to be playing cards with that chick, but instead of just sitting there, talking to her you would actually be playing.
A huge plot twist
That list could go on until the expansion is released.

What I want to see in Awakening is irrelevant since it's probably very close to finished.
But pointless speculation is so much fun! That's why we're here, aren't we?
Anyways, the number one thing I'd like to see is a convincing villain. The Archdemon/Darkspawn were one-dimensional, and I'd like to see more depth to them. In Origins they just seemed like a mindless manifestation of pure evil, and with the focus of the story being on The Architect, I'm really hoping that we get a better idea as to their society and motivations. I think Origins may have kept things intentionally vague so that we find more about them in the future.

Interface improvements. Everything from tab targeting to more bars at the bottom.
I whole-heartedly agree !
- More bars for hotbuttons is an absolute must ! And the ability to arrange them as you want too hah (Yeah, I know ... that is asking alot ... but if it could be done in Neverwinter Nights, I can't see why it can't be done in DAO as well ...)

-Single Weapon Combat talents.
-A real big city like Baldur's Gate with tons of things to see and discover, not like the tiny Denerim that can be summed up by its market place.
-Short swords and a wider range of weapons to choose from.
-Haflins. But I guess it's too late for that, it would be too big of a change, how would you explain that suddenly haflins came out of nowhere and it would need an entire new origin scenario.

You mean, like sword and no shield? That would be nice for rogues
