 Everytime you go to main menu, you have those delicious 10 seconds to take a break from our hectic world ad just go into yourself because mass effect is "checking for dlc". 
To my surprise, it is definately not. 
Reckoning only showed up after a complete relaunch of the game - so what the hell am i waiting for every single time i go to the main menu?

Edit: stupid me, validating your dlc with ea servers of couse
