Dark SPhere: 4: Radius; 5: Recharge: 6: Unstable
Recharge time with 200% CD = 6.86s
Seeker Swarm: 4: Recharge; 5: Damage Reduction; 6: Swarm COunt
Recharge time with 200% CD = 7.06s
Dark Channel: 4: Damage; 5: Recharge; 6: Damage
Recharge time with 200% CD = 2.22s
Vengeful Ancient 3
Fitness 5 (Health and SHields)
Seeker Swarm animation can be cancelled by running, flying, or light melee
Ascension animation cannot be cancelled (that I know of)
Use Ascension in between roudns to speed up cooldowns
Damage output suffers with my build but I prefer more survivability
Good synergy with other biotics, acts more as a primer
Best played as host due to latency interefering with Dark Sphere's trajectory

Thanks bro. Had loads of fun with your build and strategy last night. Worked like a charm on Gold.megabeast37215 wrote...
This is the build:
6 - Dark Sphere - Detonation Radius, Damage Over Time, Unstable Dark Sphere
6 - Seeker Swarm - Slow, Damage Reduction, Swarm Count
6 - Dark Channel - Damage, Slow, Pierce
5 - Passive - Power/Capacity, Power
3 - Fitness
Strategy:
You can get a lot of powers off in a very short time, which leads to MASSIVE AOE damage and several Biotic Explosions.
Cast Swarms. When you see a group, send Dark Sphere their way. ***IMPORTANT*** Cast Dark Channel on somethiing in the group BEFORE the Sphere gets there. Dark Sphere does not trigger a cooldown unless you detonate it. When the Sphere arrives at the group, detonate it (9 meters of boom and Biotic Priming). Now you should have several primed enemies... target each one induvidually with a Swarm and get Biotic Explosions on all of them, in addition to the ridiculous damage you just did by detonating the Sphere. If anything survived, clean up with your weapon, re-cast Swarms... rinse and repeat.

It can be cancelled by just about anything, I think.

He does seem quite squishy, even with Cyclonics/DR from Swarms... it's like the amount of Barriers in the build screen is wrong or something. He get's jacked up pretty quick. Thankfully he has that sick dodge... but even that's not enough sometimes.
I actually think I've figured out why he is so squishy. I'm actually quite proud of this, so here we go:
Enemy. Headshot. Bonuses.
It makes perfect sense. Collectors are pretty easy to kill, because of those massive heads they have. It's like getting a 2.5x multiplier on all your weapon damage. So, naturally, that applies both ways.
The game AI is a cheating bastard that makes all the enemy factions aim for the head of our poor Collector Adept.

Sphere - Damage, Damage Over Time, Radius
Bees - Slow, DR, Bee count
Passive - Damage and Capacity, power damage, weapon damage
Fitness - base three.
Not sure if I should max fitness for the vengeful bonus or if I should put five points into dark channel. Thoughts?

I went with a DCless Ascension build and did pretty well. I didn't notice DS's Dark Matter evo being bugged. I will respec to try a Fitnessless build to include DC & change DS for Unstable to see.
Current Build:
DS: Damage, Recharge, Dark Matter (will change to Unstable)
Seeker Swarm: Slow (will change to Recharge... only handy for bosses, including Phantoms), DR, Swarm Count
DC: None
VA: All weapon (may change, but I do love guns)
Fitness: All Ascension
His BEs are not very powerful, as none of his powers have a BE multiplier. Because of this, I think it's important to detonate DS, as you have mentioned. This primes anything in its path and does quite a bit of damage. Detonating with Seekers should kill any mob.
So, you can detonate DS even after casting DC (during DC's cooldown)? Will you only incur DC's cooldown? If that is the case, it would be well worth it.
I did pretty well with him vs Cerberus w/ the CSMG & Acolyte until later waves where I felt like I didn't have enough firepower. I will need to rethink the weapon loadout too.
Anyway, Ascension Stance is not bad. You get better cooldowns and decent damage bonuses. I never felt like he was too squishy (and I used the Seekers freely), so I think I may be comfy with a no-Fitness build. I am not totally sure how much DC will add to the build vs Ascension Stance. It should definitely help make better use of Warp Ammo and provide better cooldown for DS (if the above works like I am imagining).
Either way, I surmise he is a pretty powerful character.

I played him last night was just throwing stuff out there lol. Didn't know what the heck to do with him but have a better idea now that I've read through this thread. Love the bug wings

They way it works is you cast the sphere... then while you have no cooldown, THEN cast Dark Channel... and when the Sphere gets there, detonate it. This puts you in the Dark Sphere cooldown... but you have primed targets everywhere. I usually aim my Swarms for the guy Dark Channel hit first... so it will jump to another enemy.

Ahh, very cool. So, you don't have to wait for DC's cooldown to finish, but the DS's cooldown will override DC's once it is detonated?
Anyway, looking forward to giving your strat a go. I really did miss DC, but I wanted to give Ascension Stance a try and I wasn't sure where I could fit DC into the mix.
Anyway, I appreciate the thread.

Try 6/5/3/6/6 to keep Ascencion and have 3 points in DC. IMHO, it's the most efficient build atm. 5 in Seeker Swarms is enough.

Good point, though I would still love to have the extra Swarm (I may choose this over Passive rank 6). If I'm planning to use DC mainly for the Warp Ammo bonus, then this would definitely be the way to go.Jay_Hoxtatron wrote...

Compared to other Adept classes whose base HP and barriers are lower this particular one just feels extra squishy McTofu so much so that Strongholds and Cyclonic is almost a must have

I actually put 0 points into dark channel, I know, I know. Good DoT and detonations and everything... But I just don't like it all to much on this guy, since he can nuke everything wtih absurd amounts of damage.
Anyway, I run a 6/6/0/6/6 build.
Dark sphere- damage or radius, I tried both. I don't notice so huge a difference in game play with damage as I did radius so I'll probably spec back into radius next time I build him. The extra damage was nice, but not extremely noticeable, spawn nuking is at a max with the radius though.
Next is DoT, the unstable. your average nice dark sphere build.
Seeker Swarms- slow, damage reduction, swarm count
Vengeful Ancient- damage and capacity, power damage, power damage
Ancient Warrior- Ascension damage bonus, ascension recharge speed bonus, Ascension mastery
Slap on just a collector rifle.
I use the guy as a long range siege machine, seeker swarms completely negate the effect of ascension stance's damage penalty. So he doesn't seem to be nearly as squishy to me as he does everyone else, the recharge speed from the stance lets you cast dark sphere far more often. Which honestly, I usually explode as soon as it reaches the target, and if your in a pinch of at a safe distance you can set off explosions with one of your seeker swarms. But since this takes away from DR, I don't reccomend dispelling them too often. I do, however, bet that speed reducution makes getting away from quick enemies in a pinch much more viable.
Just stay out of the immediate combat, nuke spawns with dark sphere in the beginning of a wave. BE (if you want), then stay out of the danger zone in battle, but not too far away or your dark sphere will never hit what you want (it will be on the other side of the map by then). Keep using dark sphere to decimate enemies, and whenever your finger isn't on the dark sphere button, fire that collector rifle. The damage from dark sphere will decimate almost every enemy, and the good damage your rifle deals (even though you took all power damages, thanks to collector wep damage buff) enough damage in between spheres to maintain a steady flow of good damage.

Hiya megabeast, thanks for the guide on how to build this guy. I tweaked it a little for my own high lag environment. I have a question though, how come with decent amount of fitness it shows on the character screen 825 HP and 1238 barrier this guy still feels like Tofu?

The gentleman a few posts up hypothesized that it may in fact be.... that he is taking headshots in his giant, fat head from enemy units.
It's the only thing that makes sense currently.
I agree with you... his fitness tree looks like he should be pretty tank for a caster... but he damn sure doesn't feel that way.

You can do it at any time, no need to kill enemies, so long as you see that green glow on your chr. after it worked.
