How to play the Collector Adept... my first impression.

4/5/5/6/6 max shields in fitness, and Collector/Prothean weapon bonus in passives.
I run him with the PPR and CSMG, using warp ammo.
What I do is cast Dark Sphere on large groups and use the PPR w/ warp ammo's bonus to biotics to take out most things in a hurry.
I use Dark Channel for single targets, and Swarms mostly for DR, stagger, and detonator.
Using this setup, most bosses die pretty quickly, and I'm not even using ascension stance.

I'm thinking about making a spec with no Swarms and just spamming the Dark Channel/Sphere combo while in Ascension Stance... mopping up with the PPR and allowing other teammates to do my detonations for me (ManBearPig is a great Vanguard). Or doing the 3 in Dark Channel, 5 in the Passives.
I'm going to mess with it tommorrow... had a good run of URs today, got like 4-5.

I did not know that swarms counted as a biotic attack (a little unclear) so it's nice to know it doesn't set up combos but rather detonates them. I promoted my schlitty spec and started over at level 1 following your advice. DC then swarms. I really noticed an improvement. I have swarms and DC maxed out now (just picked up sphere) and the tips in your OP are really what turned my impressions on this guy around.
I must say, I really love when new characters with all new powers drop in a dlc and there's that experimentation going on. My fave is the warlord, and imo, he has multiple viable specs. But I had no idea what I was doing with the collector until I read your post. Awesome job.
Thanks

Sounds like some on BSN haven't gotten this guy figured out yet. I've put 3 games on him and I think I have a pretty good idea so far. He's my favorite kit in the DLC so far. Here goes:
This is the build:
6 - Dark Sphere - Detonation Radius, Damage Over Time, Unstable Dark Sphere
6 - Seeker Swarm - Slow, Damage Reduction, Swarm Count
6 - Dark Channel - Damage, Slow, Pierce
5 - Passive - Power/Capacity, Power
3 - Fitness
I was using Stronghold/Cyclonic II or III.... may put more in fitness and take rank 5 out of the passive. He is squishy. I rocked a Collector SMG X, with Extended Clip and the Power Amp mod, used AP ammo since I didn't have a slot for the High Velocity Barrel.
I may change things later when I figure out how to properly apply the benefits of Ascension Stance... but that eludes me so far. Need to respec and mess with it.
Strategy:
You can get a lot of powers off in a very short time, which leads to MASSIVE AOE damage and several Biotic Explosions.
Cast Swarms. When you see a group, send Dark Sphere their way. ***IMPORTANT*** Cast Dark Channel on somethiing in the group BEFORE the Sphere gets there. Dark Sphere does not trigger a cooldown unless you detonate it. When the Sphere arrives at the group, detonate it (9 meters of boom and Biotic Priming). Now you should have several primed enemies... target each one induvidually with a Swarm and get Biotic Explosions on all of them, in addition to the ridiculous damage you just did by detonating the Sphere. If anything survived, clean up with your weapon, re-cast Swarms... rinse and repeat.
It's that easy.
Summary: Have Swarms on at all times. Cast Sphere at target, Dark Channel target, detonate Sphere, throw swarms at everything.
If anyone has found a way to spec him and utilize Ascension Stance... I'd love to hear it, and see your build. Please don't use the Narida thing... it's a big mess of text and I don't know how to read it.

MB Out...
Sweet.
This is almost exactly the same build that I use, but I use Dark matter sphere implosion over unstable Dark sphere, for the hefty damage when detonated. Thanks for the tips, I was fiddling about on silver to try and work out how to deal with the recharge time after detonation and while I can easily get 70k, I haven't tried gold yet.

One thing that bugged me with Ascencion Stance is that sometimes I couldn't tell if it was on or not... My character stopped glowing at times for no reason, I have no idea if it has a time limit or something.
Thanks for posting your build, seems really powerful and easy to use at the same time, I'm gonna give it a try when I can.

I tried a full Ascension Stance build skipping Dark Channel and didn't really like it. The character was really squishy and the lag made that even worse, didn't help with Dark Sphere either as I specced it for max damage including Implosion evo at rank 6 (very small radius) so the lag made it miss a lot also.

Ascension lasts for 30 seconds, but I've noticed that sometimes lag messes with the glowing effect. Dark Sphere seems to be INCREDIBLY vulnerable to lag; I was playing in a really laggy match last night, and having the hardest time in the world getting DS to work.

DS is short range, but when in short range, the cd really gives ACA a hard time.

No swarms would be interesting, but i like builds for PUGging too, which means not relying on teammates.
I tried a very tanky build 40% DR (using swarms with considered use, not spamming), full health, and he's really quite tough. Still very good damage output.
Next up for tonight is a 3 DC, 5 fitness (shields, then rk5 10% cooldown?) and rk6 passive for weapon damage. Built for power damage, but more CSMG damage output.
I do like him, good movement, interesting play mechanics.
Has anyone done a melee build? i'm thinking that could be interesting, as he has area-effect light melee.

Has there been any good videos of this character in action yet before I spec mine? I'm still deciding which build will work best, though I still assume I'll be respec'ing or promoting often for a while for most of the new characters.

Exactly. Used it on him since day 1. Geth scanner lets you know each of your long cooldown DS will hit, cuz you see 'em coming before needlessly tossing the power and nothing's even there.
I go 6/6/3/6/5 --- because power damage
Biotic mod on my talon with warp ammo.... Power amp. Max'd power passive... In basic ascension I can 1 hit a marauder on gold with the DS... and with 9m radius, im grabin his buddy the 2 husks and 2 cannibals nearby as well!

Thanks for finding an awesome build so fast! I knew I was missing something when I first picked him up. I joined a gold pug lobby when they were on wave 4 last night with this build. I clutched a wave 10 objectives and outscored the next highest player by 45K+ points. They weren't very good but still...
He is a beast. Probably my favorite character in the latest dlc.

Thanks for this post MB. I looked at him/her quickly last night and came out with a spec that did nothing but get me killed. I skipped DC simply because I already knew what it did and I wanted to see the other powers.

FYI, I tried this build out last night, and I liked it and am sticking with it. I ended up spec'ing out of rank 6 passive, but I can see rank 6 Seeker also being a good idea. I'll have to weigh the DR & extra swarm vs extra weapon damage pan out for me. I did end up chucking swarms to reset to 4 often, so I might not even need the extra.Jack Crapper wrote...
Good point, though I would still love to have the extra Swarm (I may choose this over Passive rank 6). If I'm planning to use DC mainly for the Warp Ammo bonus, then this would definitely be the way to go.Jay_Hoxtatron wrote...
Try 6/5/3/6/6 to keep Ascencion and have 3 points in DC. IMHO, it's the most efficient build atm. 5 in Seeker Swarms is enough.
I'll give this a go, Mr Hoxtatron.
PS. Please give me access to your private vids. You know which ones. Cha CHA!

No swarms means no BEs by you and no damage reduction. If you are always playing with other biotics who always want to detonate that is cool. Except that also means you can't detonate what they prime. It also means you have nothing to do but shoot for at least 8 seconds when you detonate your sphere.
Yeah I get that... I just want to see how violent/often I can get Dark Sphere to be, and I'll still get a free cast of max Dark Channel with every cast. I'll probably miss the DR... but it's just an experiment. I'll also have no competing cooldown either.... so that's A LOT of Dark Spheres. It will also let me see the full cooldown decrease perks of Ascension Stance... I might couple it with a Power Efficiency Module, then try it with a Power Amp. I'm probably gonna take my trusty CSMG with him... but I'm thinking maybe I can take a Paladin instead so I can take advantage of the Commando Package.
I'll post my feelings about it this evening.
