Pure Adept:
6/6/6/6/0 + CSMG III
DS>DC>DSdet>SS BE>CSMG when possible.
I've had the most success with this build (CSMG III synergyses well with contant casting). Evoed DS for max radius/DoT, SS for recharge/DR, DC for damage, and Damage for powers. 110K+ on Gold consistently.
Assention Stance:
6/6/0/6/6 + CSMG III + CSR VI (NOTE: clip mod works for CSMG but not for CSR)
DS>DSdet>SS BE>CRS/CSMG
I wanted to see how well AS worked, so I dropped DC to work with this kit's best 2 out of 3 powers. Still evoed DS, SS, and Damage the same as above, but specced AS for full-on damage mode. It could work well, but I found AS buggy. Half the time, the green glow wouldn't go away after AS faded or just wouldn't show up at all. Also, activating AS takes you out of the game for a good 5 sec at 40% extra damage, making it hard to keep up under pressure. 80-90K on Gold.
Hybrid:
6/6/3/6/5 + CSMG III + CSR VI
(Same rotation as no-AS, but can be used at range with CSR and AS active)
I still wanted to use the CSR/AS, but needed the utility of DC and tweeking of AS. Evoed DS,SS, and Damage the same, and AS for damage/recharge (final AS evo gains a lot of damage, but the squish factor is "too damn high!"). The CSR works well with AS and BE's from range (pulse the CSR between casts, switch to CSMG if CRS overheats while in a firefight). 90-100K on Gold, but offers more variety than pure adept mode. Can easily switch playstyles throughout the match.

It is not reduced weapon weight its 20% increased power damage and force. Very unique.

BUILD:
Dark Sphere: (6) Damage, DoT, Unstable Sphere
Swarms: (5) Slow, Damage Reduction
Dark Channel: (6) Damage, Slow, Pierce
Vengeful Ancient: (6) Power & Capacity, Power Damage -or- Headshots, Weapon (Prothean/Collector) Damage
Fitness: 3
WEAPON(S):
- Collector SMG (but you could use the Collector Sniper Rifle, or PPR)
MODS:
- Magazine Upgrade & High Velocity Barrel
CONSUMABLES:
- Warp Ammo III or IV (a must)
- Power Amplifier or Power Efficiency (I usually go with Amplifyer)
- SMG Amp III
GEAR:
- SMG Amp or Expert Package
PLAYSTYLE:
The way I have him set up is to maximize the amount of targets I can prime and then shoot with my Collector SMG with Warp Ammo III or IV for the double damage while on cooldown. The 10% multiplicative damage bonus to Collector weapons in his passive tree is too good not to take, and really makes a huge difference.
If I have a good line of sight of a crowd I'll throw a Dark Sphere at them, Dark Channel whatever I have the best view of and then detonate right in the middle of them. Then while Dark Sphere is on cool down I will just mop up every enemy I see, usually starting with the one I Dark Channeled. Otherwise for 1v1 encounters it's just Dark Channel for stagger and to apply the biotic priming then kill quickly.
I summon my Swarms but I rarely throw them for biotic explosions since the explosions are too weak and it's easier and more effective just to shoot primed targets with my gun, I just use them for the 30% DR since I only take 5 ranks in them. I might spec completely out of Swarms though and go full fitness, but the utility of having them just in case for "OH ****!" moments come in handy.
I also rarely utilize Ascension Stance, though I will admit I think the animation is really cool so I do it sometimes just to look badass. I really hope it's buffed and then I'll go Full Ascension and spec out of Swarms. I've been doing extremely well with him and think he's a great character that's fun to play as.
Here are some platinum games (X360) yesterday and today with him, both Giant but I've also done other maps too with great success:

Ditch the csmg/acolyte/etc caster setup, you should never it run it on a class that is capable of this kind of weapon dmg. USE A HEAVY WEAPON. Your cooldowns are going to be long no matter how high your recharge is.
The obsession with cooldowns and BE spam is stopping ppl from realizing his greatest dmg output as a weapons/aoe hybrid class.

Sure it's effective... but it's boring as hell.
Just putting a PPR/Harrier on everything makes for a dull game IMO. If I want that playstyle, I'll just rock a Turian Sentinel or Asari Valkyrie.

I agree with this very much, except for the advise to ditch the CSMG, I think it's a fantastic weapon for this character due to never having to exit the action to hit an ammo box plus with it's inherint 150% modifyier to armor. It takes down Platinum level armored bosses plenty fast enough. I do like the CSR on him too though, unfortunately my PPR is only Level IV so not good enough yet.

Bah, an adept is supposed to be a caster. I'll never play an adept as a weapon spammer. Yeah, weapons + consumables are so overpowered spammming weapons on any class will usually give you the most DPS. But it is mind-numbingly boring to me to play every class the same way.
I agree, but unfortunately his design makes it difficult for me to justify going an all-caster route. No increase in BE damage in his powers, long cooldowns and animations, and his bonuses for weapon damage and being able to prime a horde of incoming enemies for delicious Warp Ammo destruction is too good.
Of course you can play that way similarly with other adepts like the Justicar, but she doesn't get the weapons bonuses as the AC, and detonating Dark Sphere staggers all enemies, including bosses like Atlas's and Geth Primes which make landing headshots effective. Plus those other adepts usually have a lot of builds that work for caster routes, like the Drell Adept if specced for weapons damage can do a lot of damage but you're giving up his power damage in BE's which is where he shines.

If its your personal preference there's nothing wrong with that. But I would recommend a drell adept or fury instead. They're much more capable of that sort of playstyle. The collector can't compete with them as a powers spammer since his powers have 10 sec cooldowns and spamming spher/swarms isn't as powerful as spamming grenades or machine gun BEs.
As a caster/weapons hybrid, he's incredibly strong and a top tier adept. The csr is my preferred weapon of choice on him if you ever want to give it a try.

I'm running the same build as you are. The CSR is my favorite weapon on this guy. I just think it does much better dmg than the csmg, plus very high burst dmg like a shotgun for those times when you get caught in dark sphere's long cooldown and get rushed by a marauder.

I am now going radius-recharge-radius, as the DOT will always be craptacular and you need to shorten the cooldowns. Also, I'm using a Power Efficiencey III consumable.
