Yeah, but Zevran is boring as all hell - the only "gay" character in the game is a scrawny elf.  And I'm not asking that Alistair be "gay," but romanceable by both sexes.  For the people out there that want him to be straight, you can romance him as a woman.  But, for those of us that would prefer something a little... different, we would be able to pursue that route.

Regardless, I doubt BioWare will add additional romance options to Alistair - I'm just putting up the suggestion. regardless.

No matter how wrong, weird and perverted things like religion, science, racial stereotyping, sexual orientation and gender politics can be they have all been and always be characteristics of the human condition and as such they should be represented and advocated to be represented in a "role-playing game" as best as the company that produces the game can represent them, so I'm all in favour of those who request such things.



With one provision though; and that is not to be forced on the customer, but rather to let the customer choose their pleasure... or sin!



I'm happy with this game, though I have to admit that the most surprising thing to me is that the two characters that I consider the gayest of all are not gay at all.

This is a fantasy game.  Allowing a character-initiated male romance with Alistair would not affect you at all - simply don't choose whatever dialogue option initiates the romance.

Allowing the player to influence the storyline directly according to what s/he wants is what Dragon Age is all about.

Bioware obviously strives to make everyone happy no matter how wrong or weird it is. I wouldn't be surpised if they start kissing up to everyone who has some weird fetish just to make them happy.

Of course it isn't always about sex, but since relationships exist in this game, why not allow a bit of freedom in who you want to be romantically involved with?

I give BioWare major props for including a male/male relationship at all, and I'm in no way complaining or "demanding more" - I'm just putting in my two cents.  If BioWare decides to include additional male/male romance options, excellent.  If not, no big deal.  I'm just not seeing what's so game-breakingly wrong with allowing more choices to be added for those of us who want them.

I dont want alistar to be gay, not cause i think it would be weird but because he was not gay in origins. makeing him gay in awakening would make you assume he "turned" gay which i belive dosnt happen, you are or you arnt. If he was gay in origins i wouldnt care either.

I didn't say gay but some people were asking for a shemale type romance or some sort of weird thing like that. And please respect my opinion I have just as much of a right to voice my opinion as you do.

I agree - I'm asking for the current romance options, in Origins, to be altered to allow for same-sex relationships.  This could then carry over to Awakening.

Yeah, I agree with you partially, Subv3rsi0n. If it doesn't affect you, don't worry about it. But then again, it wouldn't make sense to suddenly change a character like that suddenly in the next installment (unless the character is developed in that particular way). If it's developed that way, okay, but if it comes out of nowhere, I think it's just pointless pandering to a niche fanbase.

It's like, say if we were to make Morrigan bisexual in the next installment. While, admittedly as a straight guy, that sounds pretty hot, it's not true to what was established previously about the character. It would just be a way to pander to a particular demographic with sex.

Btw, why don't you like Zevran? I personally thought he was one of the cooler, more likable characters in the game. I liked his easy-going, optimistic attitude on life despite having had to deal with so much. He's much more interesting than your average lovable rogue type character.

As much as I'd like to be able to give you a reason, I can't articulate exactly what about him I dislike.  I like him as a character, of course, but beyond that, I'm not interested.

I suppose it boils down to everyone having a different set of likes and dislikes when it comes to relationships.

I haven't met Zevran, but I would so romance Alistair. He's so much more appealing than Bioware's previous Paladin-ish characters. I played female characters in BG2 and NWN2 and spent a lot of energy rebuffing the obnoxious Anomen and Casimir.

I respect your opinion. But "being gay is wrong" for example is not an opinion in my eyes, just like "the earth is flat" can't be an opinion for me.

If you would say that you don't like gays then that's your opiníon.

With regard to Alistair, as much as l like him, he should remain like Bioware did create him imo.

I never did any romances in computer games before, but I gave it try with Zevran, even though I didn't like him. I was just curious to know how Bioware did implement it. Well, in the end neither Zevran nor the romance with him was my cup of tea, but I appreciate Bioware's effort. I guess writing a gay romance isn't overly appealing for a straight writer anyway.

Of course you can go 100% gay in Awakening even in Origins this is possible. Just add sweetness to your roleplaying whenever talking to Sten (cool this dude has enormous...), Alistair (is he gay?), and Ms Zevran, oh crap I forgot ole smelly ale pissing Oghren, careful with the last one, probably will give you odd rashes and occasional stinky behind (hi hi hi).

In the IGN Q&A they said there is sexual tension between the new companions so I am pretty sure there are new romances.

I actually like the sound of that. Perhaps we'll get to see some NPC's building a romantic relationship with each other.



As to the question at hand. Possible but there are only so many companions in this expansion and one is already accounted for. So to make this work in the expansion either all of your companions will be romance-able or you'll have two bisexual characters. This is one reason why I presume relationships from Origin's will possibly continue in some shape, not much room in the expansion to create any real variety and it doesn't fit in Bioware's usual "please as many people as possible" mold.

There's no reason for characters to be able to choose the traits of their companions. Being gay, straight, or bisexual is a character trait and there's no reason for it to change based on the main character's actions.
