The Calling - Genvieve's dream where she's actually happy for once and Duncan's dream were sad but I felt really bad for Fiona. Maric's bittersweet reunion with Katriel...Just the whole Fade part was sad.
Origins - When I first played the human noble and I saw what happened to Bryce Cousland and Eleanor's decision to stay behind. That made me tear up a little. Listening to Leliana's song was moving as well. The city elf male made me feel horrible...When you talk to your bride at the house and tell her you'll come back for her she tells you it's not meant to be.

Actually I think Anora's speech is exactly like Alistair's one, but instead of "brother king Cailan" she will say "husband king Cailan". But when she goes with that last line "FOR THE GREEEEEEEE(head explodes)Y WARDENS, FOR FEREEEEEEEE(body explodes)LDEEEN!
In my second playthrough I chose for Anora to be queen so that Alistair and my female elven pc could ride off into the sunset and rebuild the Gray Wardens, but upon hearing Anora give her speech, I completely regretted it and felt like I was going to be ill. I vowed to never make her queen again, even if it means Alistair breaks up with my pc. Anora giving that speech is just too horrid to endure again!

From my games in particular, there was my hard-as-nails, vengeful City Elf warrior admitting to the Guardian that she felt she had failed Shianni, and knowing that the character would never be able to forgive herself.
Later, after she's just saved her father's life, after Ser Cauthrien has yielded and said the character reminds her of Loghain, and with Anora's support at the Landsmeet: "Daughters are always 6 years old with pigtails and skinned knees forever."
She finally realizes that she and Loghain are two sides of the same coin in more ways than one, and "knows" she has to kill him for the greater good anyway. Ouch.
As another character who sincerely believed in redemption for everyone, who had planned to make the sacrificial blow against the Archdemon himself:
"Do you think I will be remembered as a hero? I'm not so certain. If I can die a hero in the service of Ferelden, then I do so gladly. (...) Please. I have done ... so much wrong. Allow me to do one last thing right."
Then saluting the redeemed hero and telling his daughter that he died nobly.

For some reason, that just ripped my heart out when I was playing last night. After it happened and I was forced to kill him, I just had to stand there for a while staring. That was some powerful stuff.

From the books it has to be Kell trying to part with Hafter, its such a sad scene.
Is it just me or did Maric & co. get a better Fade sequence than we did?

Oh yes, the Gauntlet! Cripes, that really got me too. With a Dalish character, but moreso with a Cousland daughter and the part where you see a shadow of Bryce Cousland. She wanted so badly for it to mean he was really alive. Too close to my own father to play that part without tears.le_cygne wrote...

I agree. There were actual settlements and cities in Maric's fade sequence and all the nightmares were just so heartwrenching and meaningful than the ones in the game imo.

Am I the only one who hated Katriel and thought she got exactly what she desereved?? Really?
I can completely understand why some people might hate Katriel (even though I really liked her). I mean she betrayed Maric and was indirectly responsible for Rowan's father's death (as well as all the other soldiers that died at West Hill). But when she deeply regretted what she did and ended up saving Maric, Loghain, and Rowan, my attitude toward her changed and I think she truly loved Maric and wanted to make amends for what she did. Even the part where Maric killed her I think she was expecting that when she returned to Gwaren, that's why she left the note behind in her room for him to find. So she didn't have to return but she did anyway even though she knew she would be killed.

-The cut scene where the troops are fighting the darkspawn, and Loghain orders his to withdraw, and Cautherien looks at him like he has two heads. Seriously, I cried. Thank God it was late at night, I was snuffling like a nug! Sooooo sad
-My female Dalish returning to camp to find...Tamlen. Omg I had such an audible gasp - then I teared up. The worst part was getting absolutely NO sympathy from ANY OF MY SO CALLED "FRIENDS" omg David, how could you be so cruel? (Except who was it? Zev or Alastair? whichever one it was...it was perfunctory
-The little speeches at the gates before heading up to meet the archdemon...again with the tissues! *sniffs*
THE BOOKS:
The Stolen Throne:
-When Maric kills Katriel, again, an audible gasp followed by tears for unrequited love, and something that didn't have to be...I remembered Flemeth's words to Maric "Loghain will betray you, and each time will be worse than the previous"..
The Calling:
-When Julien dies #1, #2, when Nicolas(sp) decides to stay in the Fade with him *sniffles* sooo poignant, so bittersweet.
-When Maric and Fiona meet again, and he sees Alastair for the first time..and she tells him she is going to Weisshaupt. Sad, sad, sad.
-Fiona in the Fade.
-Kell trying to get Hafter to leave his side (already mentioned but it's making me tear up as I type this LOL geeze I am too soft)
Somehow, I found it very hard to be sympathetic towards Genevieve. I still do not understand her fascination with Duncan. I hope David clears that up in subsequent books (hint, hint!)

In her dream she spells it out. She basically wanted to kill Duncan and hoped that by making do the joining it would kill him. She was robbed of something that made her happy. She had basically three loves in her life: the Wardens, her brother and the man Duncan killed out of self defense while stealing. All she wanted was revenge and what better way to get it than making him do dangerous tasks?

Yeah, the cutscene at Ostagar was really bad for me too. The part where Cailan is killed and Duncan lies gravely injured on the ground and looks up to see that you and Alistair actually did light the signal - oh, the look in his eyes! I tear up everytime I see that.
I haven't gotten to the part of The Calling with Fiona and her baby yet (too torn up about Julien and Nicolas to continue at the moment) though I'm sure when I get to that part, I'll have to add that as well. Although I will add the part in the fade with Kell. I thought the Julien and Nicolas part of the fade was just so terribly heartwrenching, but I remember that Kell had a wife and baby in his dream and that they must have been killed by the way he acts, so when he has to leave them that was very sad as well.

Saddest for me in game, was the Ultimate Sacrifice ending. After reading what happens to a romanced Zev and poor Oghren... Morrigan's offer will be accepted every time whether Ali or Loghain like it or not.
And Julien and Nicolas... *sniff* It took days for me get over the depression. Days!
Romanced Leliana with the sacrifice is awful (in the painful sense) too. "One grand performance" and then she went off to "join" her love. That isn't tear-inducing?
I love her song as well. And the Bryce/Eleanor beginning made me cry, yes.
For some reason Cailin's look down when the hounds are getting slaughtered before he orders his infantry to charge always gets me too. I can almost see him thinking, "Our poor hounds" like he's lost a lover and realizes for the first time war isn't about glory.

I agree, her speech was horrible. I made Anora queen on my first playthrough, but I hated her speechs so much that I replayed the ending to make Alistair king. I thought her euology was even worse than her first speech.
On topic, the Ultimate Sacrifice is ending was the saddest for me. The character's ending's that affected me most were Wynne and Zevran's.
The "He never loved again" thing was what did it.

I cried in the aftermath of Maric killing Katriel. The dialogue between Loghain and Maric and then Loghain and Rowan. Doesn't mean I wasn't rightly angry at Loghain. I still am!
The Calling : I was so sad when they came to get Utha in the Fade. And then Nicloas and Julien right after. *needs a tissue* Kell and Hafter, agh! *sniffles again* I cried at the end of the book, big sobby tears. I felt so happy and sad at the same time.
The game : I have yet to not cry when we're saying our goodbyes at the city gates. Shale's got me this time around. The Gauntlet also gets me every - single - time. Leaving mom and dad in the human noble origin. Finding and saving my dad in the city elf origin. Zevran telling me he'd make a great Grey Warden mascot.
I could go on and on. There are a bunch more, but those are the ones I can remember off the top of my head right now.

The Stolen Throne : I got all sniffly when Rowan went to be with Maric, but Katriel was already there. How she felt awkward and ugly and out of place in her red dress even though she's a strong warrior and a beautiful woman. And then Loghain tells her she's beautiful and how he knows what she feel for Maric yet he can't stop thinking about her. *sniffles again*
Yeah, I agree, that was really sad. I even felt sorry for Loghain too because he knew that it was almost Rowan's duty or whatever to marry Maric so he accepted it even though deep down he really loved her (then and later in the book when he lets her go to Maric). Also, no one has mentioned this but the way Rowan dies is pretty tragic considering how strong and brave she had once been and to just wither away like she did. I guess no one thinks too much about it because it was just part of the epilogue but Maric mentions it as well in The Calling and believes it was the wasting illness which she apparantly contracted in the Deep Roads. Which makes Rowan's death even more tragic when you think about all that someone would have to go through before dying from darkspawn corruption.
Strange though if that truly is what she had, because she would have lived for several years before dying, whereas when I played a Dalish elf and had contracted the taint in that cave, Duncan made it sound like if my pc didn't go through with the joining she would die very soon because of the taint.

I hated it.
And I loved it
I don't cry. I just don't. When everyone around me is sitting there bawling their eyes out in a sad movie, I'm the one sitting there awkwardly just waiting for it all to be over.
But THIS part
THIS damn part of the book
Actually made me tear up a little.
It was so sad...
I wish I coulda scooped 'em all up and hugged their problems away
