Just unlocked this cool dude.

How are we speccing this guy? I haven't seen any decent gameplays yet and I'm not sure how to go by just looking at his powers.

Any ideas?

? swarms gives you 40% damage reduction and is the only power you can spam to detonate, stagger or to slow things down

Everything! Swarmers detonates Sphere, which kills and transfers channel, which is detonated by Swarmers, which kills and transfers channel, which is detonated by swarmers. Rinse and repeat.

i unlock this guy bout 1am this morning lol, so i just slapped a quick build together i went 66365(was half asleep lol) and though i have yet to try it on gold it rips though things in silver the extra damage intake in ascension is not really noticable unless you are stood in the open. will probs have a better look at it later but the idea seems nice overall

My build so far

Dark Sphere: radius and damage
Swarms: DR and amount
no DC
Vengeful Ancient: capacity/power dmg/weapon dmg
Ancient Warrior: health and shields/shield recharge/ascension mastery

Ascension mode is kinda UP at the moment so I might spec out that last one into all health/shields. I use a CSMG, CAR or PPR depending on what kind of recharge I want. I've found so far the CAR is a good balance between recharge and weapon damage, plus it gets a nice bonus from the passive.

I was trying to work out how to spec this last night ... gave up in the end, had to go to bed.

I'm sort of thinking there's three possibilities:

1: The Monster DoT Adept
Sphere (6): damage, dot, dark matter
Swarm (0): skip
Dark Channel (6): damage, recharge speed and piercing
Vengeful Ancient (6): go for ALL the power damage bonuses (there's a 20% bonus at tier 6)
Ancient Warrior (6): all the Ascension evos.

Use a Collector SMG + SMG Power Magnifier

You'll be squishy as hell as you'll be activating Ascension for the damage/recharge bonuses and then using DC and Sphere for obscene levels of damage. You'll also not be able to detonate BEs but this is primarily about making use of Ascension mode.


2: The Warrior Adept
Sphere (6): radius, dot, unstable dark sphere (gonna use this like a grenade)
Swarm (6): slow, damage reduction, swarm count
Dark Channel (0): skip
Vengeful Ancient (6): damage & capacity, power damage, weapon damage (I think this will give you a 25% weapon bonus with the Collector/Prothean weapons - PPR or CAR for instance)
Ancient Warrior (6): durability, shield recharge, fitness expert

Use a PPR

Should be a bit more survivable with the health evos and 40% DR from the swarms if you've got them all up. You'll also be able to detonate the Sphere at the cost of losing some DR by lobbing swarms at the enemies.


3: The Hybrid
Sphere (6): radius, dot, unstable dark sphere (AoE crowd control)
Swarm (6): slow, damage reduction, swarm count (DR and BE detonator)
Dark Channel (4): damage (DoT on bosses)
Vengeful Ancient (6): damage & capacity, power damage, weapon damage
Ancient Warrior (4): durability

Use a Collector SMG + SMG Power Magnifier

You're going to lose some BE power by only having DC at 4 but it's probably worth it for the extra health/shields. You've got the Sphere as a kind of slow moving biotic bulldozer grenade and bonuses to weapon damage (more with Collector/Prothean weapons).


I think I'll try options 1 and 3 tonight - first to see how Ascension mode actually functions and then I'll respec to option 3 when I get sick of being killed every time something with an automatic weapon even glances in my direction.

heavy dot reliant.
gone for full damage in every evolution dot damage where possible.
I do use the sphere on the ground to prime things up. Channel afterwards since no CD on sphere and using the swarm to blow em up. I do detonate the sphere rarly and only to finish enemies off.
I am aware of no be-boni but trippleblowing things that got 1-2 dots is good enough for me. Feels in line with most other adepts that way.

Didn´t outscore that kroguard against geth though. Buff him

So many, many, options with this guy. Pick a build and have some fun and then respec at a later date and have more fun in a different way.

I've currently got him specced for insane DoT, boosted with Ascension, and swarmers specced for DR, and he is pretty awesome.

Robust enough to survive where other adepts would struggle and able to put out massive DoT at range. Sets off BE when needed and can still detonate the Sphere for those "must take that target/group down now!" moments.

I'm running a collector SMG with him because it's the lore (lore/law, geddit? >grin<) with the standard couple of ammo-capacity increase mods.

Oh - and don't forget that his light melee is a ranged blast! That's always fun.

Hmm... I'm at work so I can't test this now but it has just occured to me that his light melee does appear to fire a Biotic Blast - anyone know if it can trigger a BE? I suspect not, but how cool would that be?

This is almost my build but I went 65663 instead, basically what Ziegrif say, just throw your DS(don't detonate it yet) --> cast DC on mook or boss --> then use swarmer for BE --> detonate DS and use swarmers again for more BE, rinse and repeat. He is really a powerful char if you know how to use him, just don't stay out in the open too long he is very squishy :happy:

Here's the build I went for in the end:

DS: 4a,5b,6b (Might experiment with the extra damage, lower radius evo though)
SS: 4a,5a,6a (Would recommend 5b though as you want to be shooting the swarms, not having them spin round you)
DC: 4a,5b,6b
VA: 4b,5a
Fitness: First three.

My collector weapons are all level 1 so I used the Paladin IV as my weapon.

I just went for crazy explosions, set your swarms up at the start of the wave, find a spawn point, send the green ball of death, as soon as you send it dark channel, then start mashing the buttons to shoot the swarms or explode the ball.

I didn't manage to get any killstreaks which was my main aim, but I did top the board on the old classic, FBW/G/G. The only hairy moments are when you get stunned, stopping you from exploding the ball or when you run out of swarms.

Other than that, the guy's a beast.

I'd be interested to see it with a build that never detonates the sphere, a pure DOT build, that'd be pretty cool.

The best thing going for him, with my play style, is to combo Dark Channel with Seeker Swarm. The sphere is a good way to deal with groups or boss units. It does some serious work on ravagers. Take advantage of being able to get around some of the slow cool downs by shooting off a couple powers before denoting your Kakehameha, I mean sphere. And am I the only one totally let down by ascension mode? I mean it's not a noticeable difference, and it's lame you have to slow your roll every 30 seconds to reactivate it... But I do enjoy quoting Harbinger whenever I activate it. Assuming direct control.
