I'm a pc gamer, but when I hear the pc gamers wanting all the bells and whistles and everything geared towards the pc, I wonder sometimes if pc gamers are trying to force themselves out of the marketplace. If the requirements are too high, then there won't be a large enough target audience for the game. Not enough sales and publishers won't make pc games. It's good business to make the game play on as any systems as possible.
And if they tone the requirements too low the game will like A:CM or the GOT RGP, which will also bring fan "dissatisfaction". And unlike other issues, most reviewers won't gloss over a game that uses outdated graphics.

Completely agree. I am not interested in a console to pc port. If that's the way it is then best of luck to you Bioware.D_Thoran wrote...
For this game to be sucessful it needs to be built and designed to utilize the power of our gaming PC's, not end up designed for consoles, next gen or not, and then the pc users get some crappy port where you can't even use keybinding, among other travesties. (ala dungeon siege 3)
This type of game (especially the 3rd installment) needs to be built on pc's period, and ported to consoles. Did I say that? Those of us who have spent thousands of dollars on our gaming rigs deserve the best that the frostbite 2 engine can offer, not a dumbed down console port.
agree? disagree?
Worse case, PC should have extra features to make use of the power our machines and graphics cards have. Such as PhysX.
I won't wear another game from Bioware built on the limitations of consoles like ME3.

I once heard that a fundamental difference between console and PC gamers is whether you think of gaming as a "lean-back" activity or a "lean-forward" activity.
And? Honestly, nothing. But thanks for illustrating the point.
I'm one of those lean-forward types myself. If a game makes me feel relaxed I might as well be watching TV. I like to feel energized when playing games.

Not all pc gamers. I just want to play a game on a pc that feels like a...pc game. I don't need the highest shiny available in the world. I would just like my mouse scroll to work, some hot keys to function oh and a space bar that does ONE thing. lol

The prone to piracy bit doesn't even deserve to be part of this conversation.
Why doesn't it?
Because it only really comes into play if the game isn't good anyways.
Pirates are going to pirate. No matter what the marketing guys say about DRM V 734568934 they wont stop them. The trick is getting everyone else to not join them. You do that by making a good game that gets recognized as such. Not Spore 2.0 with rediculous flaws that PROMOTE people to pirate it.

Tv is filled with crap with commercials between them. It's called the "idiot box" for a reason. Gave up on it completely back 07', since I decided it was wasting time I don't have.

As for those saying "Oh you just want graphics>everything else"... No, I want decent (optimised) graphics, UI and controls+everything else for PC version. Just like you want those same things for your console version yet cry foul when a PC player wants the best experience on their platform as much as you want best on yours. If you bought a PS3 and all games for it were limited to the capabilities of a PS2 then you would be asking them to utilise the capabilities of the PS3 instead of PS2. The principle is the same with one format limited because of another platform. All games should be optimised for the capabilities of each platform they are to be created for, not limited to the worst of the bunch.
They can build it for console first if like or PC first doesn't matter, just make sure PC users aren't screwed over with ****** poor graphics, controls and UI. Meaning it should be optimised for not only those using console but also those using PC too.

What? Nobody forced you to buy a pc. And why should they do your interests? The biggest pool of buyers is on consoles, and games are made for consoles. It's logic.
I'm a console player who is going to buy a pc as soon as the next gen comes out. I know that pc is better than consoles. But you are a pretentious player who is whining because he cannot f+ck pretty p+ssies even if his d+ck is bigger. If you are not happy with your d+ck, buy a smaller one next time.

It's much much much harder to port from PC to consoles (as far as i know). It might change next gen but right now even low end PCs are far more powerful than the consoles are - it's part of the reason that PC has more exclusives than all consoles combined. If you start on PC it's likely that you wont ever get anything on consoles.
I'm not sure, but from the limited contact I have had with both designers and developers and such over the years, I have been led to believe it is easier to start with a product designed for PC, and change it for consoles. With consoles there is almost always a removal of product.
This is only true if you're planning for consoles from the start, i.e. are in reality building a "console videogame", even if you're doing it for the PC.
There are plenty of of PC games that cannot be ported to any generation of consoles we've played on so far, some of them PC-games are even very old by now.
People complain about Bethesda a lot in this thread. Because of the UI. Personally, I think they done a great job of creating a multiplatform game that is actually interesting to play. Compared to that, I think the UI is a trifle.
Nevermind the graphics and UI. There are many more far-reaching decisions. How do you save the game-state, for example? Once you've taken the decision that it must be possible to readily save on a console, you've also taken a long line of other decisions that will shape the game.
And why do we only get three party members in DA? And why do the opponents arrive in waves in DA2?
It's likely not just a matter of capacity (even if it is), but also a compound decision to also adapt the feel of the game to something that fits the console gamers' expectations.

I don't understand why anyone would choose a gamepad on a PC product. To me the various mouse and keyboard combos are so much more efficient and configurable for different playstyles than a gamepad.
I am a PC gamer. I do not own a current generation console. I use a 360 gamepad for several games, including anything that requires analog input (eg. racing games), the Assassin's Creed series, and several others. The keyboard and mouse is not more efficient, as far as I am concerned, for those games.
That's because they are console games. I own PS2, XB, XB360, PS3, precisely for playing console games. And if I didn't enjoy some console games (genres), and playing them with the pad, I would never have purchased those consoles.
I consider myself a PC gamer first. And what I think is greatly frustrating for PC gamers is that all old PC-genres are transformed into console games. It's not that they are ported to consoles, it's that they have become something different. Shooters, for instance, I consider mostly crap these days. I almost vomited on Gears of War, (while all console gamers went through the roof). My standard is original 'Far Cry' and 'Stalker' series. That's all gone now. Same with RPGs. Bethesda is doing a good job of preserving a "PC-feel" in game. DA2 didn't do a good job of that. The trend is that RPGs have changed into a new, different genre for consoles. At least with big budget.

Thank you for reinforcing the stereotype of console players as twelve year old that can't make an argument without the F-bomb. All that was missing was a deragotory remark in regard for the chastity of his mother.
And also "I'm a console player who is going to buy a pc as soon as the next gen comes out"? What is the argument you're trying to make there?
Also the biggest pool of players is on the PC. The combined console players may outnumber the PC players, but no single console outnumber the PC, and the mobile phone players outnumber all of them. So that argument is invalid. As is any argument trying to say "PC is dead", because as long as every house in the civilised world has atleast one PC in average the PC will never die.
No laptop, and no tablet will slay the mighty PC, becasue it will always have more "firepower" than them, and therefore will always be the "weapon of choice" for hardcore gamers aswell as casual gamers who aren't interested in shelling out hundreds of dollars for a gaming console that can't do anything with other than gaming and will forever be inferior to PC's.
Srsly, the inferiority of the console performence compared to the PC has reached the point where microsoft and sony are paying companies like Nvidia to delay the release of "bleeding edge" cards and instead release "economical" cards (i.e. cards that offer the same performence as last generation for lower price). All so the PS4&XBOX720 will get a temporary edge at launch (one that will evaporate within a year, top).

Why doesn't it?
Because the consoles have all been hacked for ages, and piracy is just as rampant there. So being as how it's just as bad on all platforms involved, it's a non-issue to the discussion at hand.

How do I need to be banned for trolling for making a statement and asking for honest discussion? This is how things get hasjed out, and the developers do listen to our opinions. As long as the thread stays civil and well mannered, (and it has, with a lot of good points being made intellegently on both sides) how it it considered trolling?
If you have nothing constructive to say, go away.

Thank you. I think I said as much, just not as well put as this. And the whole [roblem that has been creeping through video games lately, that started this idea for a post, was the slew of horrendous ports that the PC has gotten lately, rendering them nearly unplayable, especially on titles that were originally designed for the PC.
Nowhere did I ever say that it should be built for PC only, though I think some took it that way.

I agree with this. Console players enjoy a different style of game it seems than most of your older, hardcore PC fans, and we often get a product that reflects this. (on top of the designed for console control schemes and UI's and such that we have been talking about) Kudos for bringing this to the table.
