I love Gilmore. He's a beast in battle (I swapped him to two handers and put up a few tactics for him because the game won't do it automatically, then turned him loose on the darkspawn).
He mentions becoming a warden as a followup to the rumors Duncan had come to Highever to recruit him. He was going to until Howe's treacherous attack. However, that doesn't pan out because 1) you don't know the particulars of HOW to make him a grey warden and 2) you don't have the materials on hand and 3) presumably you don't want to lose him as a companion since he may die and 4) the game is programmed for one male warden (aside from possibly the PC) to do the dirty deed with Morrigan at the end, if you go that route. Kind of makes the whole "Alistair has to do it with her" pointless on a romanced Alistair turn if there are other wardens around to do it instead.
Granted, I know how much you hate Alistair, so you don't have to reiterate it to me. Just saying, takes some sting out of it if you offer up Gilmore instead to the swamp witch.
The Gilmore mod was a lot of fun. He has a LOT of conversations with you even when other NPCs fall silent and has some pretty funny lines (have him rescue you in Ft Drakon). Though some of the dialogue is kind of fan-ficish, his romance is pretty sweet but don't romance someone else while leading him on, he has a severe reaction to it. Like SEVERE!
*Edit* Oh, one thing I do recall that was a disappointment. I loved Gilmore, took him around everywhere with me once I picked him up in Lothering. Except I found out, don't take him with you when you kill Howe, unless you want him to take over the entire scene. While that worked for my Surana, on my Cousland it kind of stole her thunder. Yes, he wants Howe dead, but damn, he didn't lose his entire flippin' family to the bastard. That moment was completely ruined for me.
Also, I had issues with the game crashing if I had him in my party for the confrontation with the Archdemon. So, I left him at the gates of Denerim and did the battle through the city using another party member. I tried like 5 times to get the end scene to roll and it would always crash right after Alistair/Anora walked up the steps. I disabled the mod, force loaded it and got to the scene at the end. Then reenabled it again and finished my game. Subsequent games I just left him at the gates and didn't experience this issue. Probably a conflict with his mod and another I have but just a warning if you have that issue, try that solution.
