Hey, I started having problems not being able to start up my mass effect 1 game on steam after some time. I have played through it twice before and havn't had problems, but now it just won't start the game for some reason, even though Steam recognizes it as having started and I closed the game.
I have been going through posts online and such and the best solution I found was to uninstall the game and re-install it which I have done and I am having the same problem.
My next course of action is to try and get the game to activate on EA Origins seeing as I have other games like Mass Effect 3 on there and such, However, whenever I try the CD key that I got off of Steam for Mass Effect 1, it doesn't work.
I was wondering if there are any good solutions to either the game not starting up, or activating the game on Origins.
I am running Windows 7 on a Laptop and run Steam and all the games off of my second Hard Drive in the computer if that changes anything.

I don't think you can activate ME1 here anymore, alas. I have some (very generic) ideas, but be warned, for they might not work:
1) Verify your game cache. Because, you never know.
2) Restart your laptop. Turn it on and off.
3) Run the .exe in administrator mode, and maybe Steam in admin mode.
4) Some combination of the above.
