If Golems play a part in Dragon Age 3 Inquisition would you be against some of them having weapons?

I know a Golem is a weapon by themselves. If I'm not mistaken I think there were armed Golems in one of the Dragon Ages. I can't remember because it was solong since I last played the game.

You might be thinking of DAII, where Meredith used the lyrium idol to bypass the necessary soul requirement for Golems -- or the lyrium idol is a collection of souls -- and animated the statues in the Gallows Courtyard. Some of them -- two, actually -- had spears/lances.

What's kind of weapon would you want a Golem to carry? I would love to see a Golem carry...

-a Tree or use one
-a pole or pillar

Giant weapons wielded in one hand. Giant Swords made of stone or steel, or Axes, or Mauls, or whatnot.

Alternatively, a Golem wielding another Golem. And that Golem fires lions from a giant crossbow.

I say skip the middleman and give the golems giant blades for hands.

For the "finisher" animation, the player or party character backflips ONTO the golem's enormous blade hand, thus tricking it into cutting its own arm off. The severed blade-hand is then picked up and thrown, javelin style, spearing the golem in the face.

Nearby Darkspawn judges then hold up scorecards reflecting the quality of the throw.

I would quite like to see another golem like the one we got as a temporary companion in the Golems of Amgarrak, where it has access to limited spells, obviously one able to cast a firestorm would be a bit ridiculous to fight.

The Harvester was a difficult fight, but not so much the regular golems.

But I don't think more "challenge" is really necessary. I don't think harder battles are automatically better.

What about magical Golems? I remember that in Golems of amgarrak you have a Golem that uses magic and in Awakening you fight a fire golem.

The fire golem was awesome, but in terms of battle difficulty, nothing to really write home about. Like all of DA:O's boss battles, it was relatively long, but didn't require me to really switch up my tactics at all.

But I play mainly for story, so I stay away from the higher difficulties anyway.

This sounds pretty cool. Right now I'm picturing a golem with a giant maul.

Well, Amgarrak itself was one of the first thaigs -- perhaps the only thaig -- to actually delve into such research regarding Runic Golems, so magical golems would and should be a rarity. Shale was also a magical Golem, but even then she was an oddity.

I'd rather they not be made common. Not unless it was said that the Amgarrak researchers had something to use as a basis for their Runic Golems or Amgarrak's notes caused Dwarves in Orzammar to begin making their Golems function the same way. There would have to be a justifiable reason for seeing more magical golems.

The Inferno Golem, however, was a pathetic fight in terms of gameplay. Interesting from a story perspective, but gameplay wise it was no challenge. I could take down the Lost easily with my Warden, turn around, and see that the rest of my party hadn't even died or come close to it yet. And that's when I disabled their attacks and tactics.

I think golems should be able to pick up the bodies of their vanquished foes and hurl them at new enemies, and/or swing their lifeless bodies around like a weapon.  Image IPB

Depending on CoD* this could be quite messy. Although psychologically efficient (Maker! It's hitting us with Robert!).

But yeah, golems should be able to take advantage of their surroundings. They're intelligent enough to throw a boulder, after all (and conjure it out of nowhere, btw).

Perhaps if Golems had more abilities akin to Shale's, things would be better.

That would actually make sense. A golem with huge sword or axe could destroy much more darkspawn than a golem without weapons just because the weapon gives golem a much larger reach. Thus making it for the darkspawn much harder to get close to destroy the golem.

Yeah I think a golem with a weapon would be far more destructive than just going sumo. Think Iron Giant from Final Fantasy.

All that force behind a cleaving weapon....

Theres the Golem in Awakenings that uses a hammer to forge weapons for you. So its not out the realms of possibility. If they can forge and use tools im sure they can use a giant mace.

And everyone who uses it does so at the risk that it takes your soul as well and uses your body to form it's next shape.

If you think about it, humans don't need weapons to kill each other, but we use them anyway. Big stone soldiers means REALLY BIG WEAPON possibilities. Why not?

There was this guy in Legend of Dragoon that fought with a roman column, only he used it like a bazooka. Make this happen!

well if you consider that golems are weapons then yes, it would just make them more effective (not spears though - golems do not need to keep things at a distance, they are sturdy enough IMHO - but giant war-axes or 2-hand-swords? - why not, i mean in our armies today we refine our weapons over time, too and arming a golem is just a refinement!)

I don't think they have the flexibility required to wield things.
