This DLC has, so far, been really awesome. There are lots of new weapons to unlock, new kits to figure out, and a lot more anticipation of whats going to become of them!

However, with that, there is always an exception, especially when it comes to the characters.

In this case, we have 1

The Alliance Infiltrator Unit:

She is awesome.

I have always been a fan of Close Quarter Combat. Ask any player I know and they won't be able to remember a time when I picked a sniper over a shotgun. I am glad a shotgun-specific character has come.

For the most part, this kit is easy to figure out. But there seems to be a bit of confusion when it comes to one of the new powers she has: Repair Matrix

Now, not too long ago, there were many threads wondering why Defense matrix wasn't part of the Multiplayer experience. Finally, it seems, Bioware has incorporated a variation and did us one better: FREE REVIVES

Now don't let this get to your head. The repair matrix will regenerate shields (like a vorcha does health), significantly increase your speed, give you damage reduction, and revive you instantly if you get downed. Very similar to a fully stacked Bloodlust Vorcha. Unfortunately, like the regen vorcha...

You are not invincible

If you get downed while repair matrix is on you get up instantly, with a catch: You will slowly get up without the ability to dodge/heavy melee out of the way while simultaneously keeping the aggro of the enemies that killed you in the first place.

So what would happen to say... a player who got a bit too Ballzy?? If they took the ability to increase their DR by 75% upon revive, they might have a chance of running away and living. But as you all well know... How often do you get to just casually get up in the middle of a brute/maruader/prime/bomber/hunter/scion mob and not get staggered to all hell before you get dropped again? Not often.

So what happens if a player goes down, instantly gets revived and then casts another repair matrix? You guessed it... they get down again. How can they escape this? They have to use a medi-gel, which provides them with the time to drop aggro, take advantage of the invincibility frames, and opportunity to potentially roll/heavy melee out of a mob focused on them (Two Primes shooting at you, anyone?)

Because this character has one of the poorest Fitness trees, only the most seasoned players are going to be able to utilize her speed bonuses and weapon damage buffs to the fullest without dropping to the floor from immediate shield + healthgating by cannibal melee and his buddy's shots. Remember, once you get shield/health gated, there IS a cooldown before you get your gates back. So say bye bye if you let a ravager catch you off gaurd.

With how close you have to get to enemies to be effective, this is a very high risk/high reward kit, and needs to be taken very seriously before you decide you want to go all Rambo on a Rippers a**. So please, guys.... if you can't handle the heat, stay out of the kitchen.

Thoughts, BSN?

For kicks, here are some ridiculous claims I have found:

Edi survive more than the Geth Juggernout, and that's not fine..... I can last longer [on platinum] with the edibot even without touch the medigel with 0 fitness and without cyclonics or shield booster.

I'm honestly starting to get sick of players thinking it makes them invincible and charging headfirst into situations that just get them double downed.

(in response to "infinite medi-gel")   I've got an idea: lets make a class that can pick up cobra missiles from an ammo box.

AIU teaches you how to play sloppily without the risk of death. Over time as you become more efficient at dying quickly the auto revive will become a necessity.

agreed. a thousand times, agreed. this is part of what i've been saying in the nerf threads.
i experienced the constant shield gating quite a few times yesterday during a Gold, albeit with no consumables equipped. we wiped on Wave 9 against Cerberus.
those PHANTOMS & DRAGOONS

Insta-Rez is basically useless unless you know what you're doing.

pop another and cloak. you are not invincible, but you're also only a step from it.

I noticed, several times playing vs. geth, that if i was health/shieldgated and then began recharging, I would just flat out die if I was hit by something powerful enough due to the shield/healthgate cooldown.

I also went down on a clutch platinum wave vs. 2-3 mauraders cuz of an elbow and then some shots while in a "corner." I just kept dropping until i actually used a medi-gel and dodged out of their way... other wise it was

1) insta-revive
2) The People's Elbow (maruader strike)
3) Maurader buddy shoots
4) Start repair matrix
5) Dead
6)Insta-revive
2) The People's Elbow
3) Maurader....
....
...
and so on

doesn't work as you'd think.  remember the enemy "listens" to your last known position.  you're still in the same place they downed you before.  imagine a Brute and Banshee right there...

yes haha this happened quite a few times as well.  i would have hit Repair Matrix, see that it was active... all while kissing the floor

People need to learn how to dodge.

That's my two cents.

if you're referring to doge after Insta-Rez from Repair Matrix, did you read the OP?

walk backwards against the phantoms if they are close and see you.  they'll try and melee you but you'll be out of range.  cloak, snap freeze, head shot...

otherwise, cloak, snap freeze, head shot all phantoms and dragoons from the side because they'll be raging on your juggernaut and warlord teammates.

The upper echelons of the bsn have decreed: she's op and noobs don't deserve her, she must be nerfed! Jokes aside, she's a very fun character to play as is, I played a couple gold matches and I barely used repair matrix so if that gets nerfed no big deal

it doesn't happen like that lol
situation:
you've cloaked, snap freeze, shotty to the face on a Phantom but it's not quite dead.  it Melee's you and you die due to taking fire from other enemies around.  you are Insta-Rez'd from Repair Matrix... oh guess what? that Phantom is standing over your body.  so as you're getting up, right before you can do anything, they've Meleed you again. now you're dead.

i don't think half the people who are saying this kit is "OP" have played Gold or above, been in a situation like this, or both.

I've been playing the AIU since I got her, and I quite agree with the OP. The kit is very good if played right, but not over powered.
For example: I was in a game with two AIUs, one scored (and I know, score isn't completely showing of skill, but...) around 100k (level 18), while the others was about 32k (level 20).

i don't need to imagine.  already went through it.  if need be, pop another, cloak and then ops pack.  but really, just popping another and cloaking will do you wonders.

Also a very real risk of being revived straight into a sync kill. This class is a trap for new player. Lets see a n7 25 player for example solo gold with. Bet we never will.

Can't call yourself humble if you talk about yourself in third person.

i've only played one silver match with her, maybe two and those were test runs.  i'm talking about gold.

indeed, another drawback.
but it doesn't matter what BSN wants, a patch costs money to implement, which is what would be needed to remove the Insta-Rez.  so, it is here to stay, regardless. what may happen is parts of Repair Matrix get nerfed, such as Duration OR Speed Boost/Shield Recharge.  but nerfing those make me feel like Repair Matrix would be gimped completely.

I did not refer to after reviving from Repair Matrix, and yes. I have played this kit with great effectiveness.

I mean people should learn to dodge so they don't get blasted or smashed to bits so often.

I haven't really been using the repair as an instant revive. It's a nice bonus to have, but I'm not finding myself going down after using it that often unless I run into a group of enemies that just spawned. With the repair my shield regen/DR is enough to let me run away or finish off something that would normally kill me, which is what the stimpack also did.
