I'm finding the game's performance to be getting progressively worse on
my machine recently. It seems to be coming from memory leaks. Is anyone
else noticing this?

How does it seem to be coming from memory leaks? I assume you have been using IBM rational Purify, Boundschecker or memwatch to come  to this conclusion?
Please, share your findings with us all.

I don't doubt your programming and debugging credentials but as this is a place for users to help each other, your insight will be invaluable.

Oh I know all about it. I'm just tired of  armchair experts and their bandying around of terms they will never understand.

Besides. Reading the OP's post he's talking about a degredation over time rather than a degredation over session which is  more indicative of a system in need of a clean.

I don't think I need a system clean because I already keep up with maintenance such as disk defragmenting, registry cleaning, etc.

Dragon Age is the only game that is giving me these performance issues. The game will run fine at most times and then suddenly I get a drop in fps and then it goes away. Very frustrating because I didn't have this problem the first two months I've been playing the game.

Not at all. I'm accusing the OP of being an armchair expert.

He did not come here and say "I've read there is a memory leak, I think it is happening to me" did you. No, because that would be useless. He has  read there is a problem so what is the point of mentioning it other than to be a whiny ****?

No, What He implied is that he has discovered a problem and he thinks it's a memory leak because people are bandying that term about. That is meant to make us believe that he has a clue what he is talking about.

If your game has degraded over time then it has nothing to do with a memory leak. A problem where memory allocation is not retrieved can and will only happen after a particular amount of gameplay time during the same game session It is easily fixed by restarting the game.

None of what I mentioned in the last paragraph, He mentioned in his initial post. So instead of trying to be a smart ass whilst saying nothing how about he says what he meant to say in the first place?

"I don't like that my game is broken and i want to **** about it like everyone else"

grow the **** up. This is for technical help between users. Not complaining like a child.

so zootcadillac will this problem be fixed soon because i am probably experiencing this as well. It seems like everyone with an AMD processor is experiencing this problem. I have tried to play this with two different computers that are well above recommended requirements. Both have an AMD Quad core processor and they both are experiencing heavy lag and long load times after about 15 minutes of play. However i have tried this game on an Intel equiped PC and it ran fine. Smooth gameplay. I played for about 2 hours with no interference except for a little battle lag. So i am just wondering when this will be fixed because it is almost impossible to play. I forgot to mention that i have patch 1.02a installed as well as the latest drivers for my sound card and video card.

Whoa. What a pompous jackass. You've contributed nothing to this thread for all your supposed tech skills. GTFO.

I just wanted to know if it was memory leaks or a problem on my end. Since other users have been having the same problem and Bioware has confirmed memory leaks (which I didn't know until I created this thread) I know it's not my machine so my question is answered. Thanks to everyone except ZootCadillac.

then why did you not ask that instead of making statements you are not qulaified to back up.

Full of ****,

And for the previous post I have completed the game on an AMD 3800X2 a 5200X2 BE and a Phenom X4 without the slightest problem. As has been said countless times but people ignore, the problems are not hardware specific but system configuration specific and personally, I see a long wait for you.

Anyone with a lick of common sense and an ounce of computer knowledge can easily see the memory leak issues with the game. Namely from the increasing load times over the same session. Also, not everyone hunts, searches, or reads through forums. So, lets not blast or call names to those that ask questions trying to find out if its their machine or if its a known game issue. The OP did ask if we also noticed it, and bad RAM modules can also cause similarities to software memory leaks when they start going bad.

As to the AMD specific issues, if you have an early version of the Phenom quad processor you can try to do a google search for TLB bugs ... especially if you are running Vista SP1. It causes lower frame rates and higher lag times. There is a work around for that issue out there.

Here is a link that talks about helping to disable the bug, some people have noticed an upto 14% performance rise and better system stability after the work around.

I don't care what we call it, but Houston we have a problem.

The game engine is sucking up system resources and not releasing them, ie proper garbage collection.

And, it's true, it does appear to mostly affect AMD based builds although Intel users have reported the load time issues.

But i went to control panel and my memory page was set to 900mb and ive increased it to 1344 that was my max and now the game runs ok. just in some cases it slows down a bit.

Well I have a i7 920@3.8ghz, GTX285, 3xOCZ Vertex SSD with over 6gb of memory and I am experiencing the same problem as the original poster does.

Where do I go in Windows to set the size of the page file?

Win7

Right-click My Computer >> Properties >> Advanced System Settings >> Advanced >> Performance >> Settings >> Virtual Memory >> Change

You need to put it on another harddisk by the way and not on the Windows 7 installation harddisk.

Some AV progs can interfere with gaming performance to one degree or another. Best to look for a reliable, small-footprint program, like Avast or even now, Windows Live Essentials. There are many others, equally good and often free. Often times it's just a particular setting option in the AV program that can cause or eliminate a problem. Active scans during play, or not excluding game files, etc.

Filehippo and Majorgeeks has some great listing of free stuff that isn't a malware in disguise.

Generally, when in doubt disable any unnecessary programs you have running in the background.

ESET

i do not really trust anyone else for anti-virus.

Its top notch and really shows no performance hit on the computer.

Ok, I think I've lessened the lag on DA:O this is how i did it. ONLY WORKS FOR Nvidia CARDS.

CONTROL PANEL ===> NVIDIA CONTROL PANEL ===> MANAGE 3D SETTINGS ===> THREADED OPTIMIZATION = ON (NOT AUTOMATIC TURN IT TO FORCE ON). (YOU MUST GO TO PROGRAM SETTINGS TAB AND CHOOSE DA:O)
